Tom Winter in Montana
The Dem running for congress in the Montana at-large seat (the state is only large enough for one seat) has a real good shot at winning. Montana right now has a very popular Dem governor currently running for senate. And the dems have a very strong candidate running for Governor. If those two and Tom win, Dems will control all the most important positions in the state.
He supports medicare for all, stronger gun control, a transformative climate policy, and many other good things. But who am I kidding he's also hot as hell!!

Because of native populations, millennials that moved to the state since 2000 (it's having a bit of an economic boom), and lots of folksy ancestral Democrats, Dems have a much higher "floor" there compared to other western states where they can just get blown out like Wyoming. Good candidates like Bullock and Tester have won multiple times in a row.

No, we're probably not gonna get them to vote for a nationwide assault rifle ban, but you can win running on SOME stronger gun control in Montana

Montana is one of those states that hovers just outside the really competitive zone where it gets a lot of attention and money. Dems usually do pretty well even when they don't win.
AZ and GA used to be like that and both are now highly competitive. I think Montana will get there with time.

r40 Alaska is not larger in POPULATION, which is what determines Congressional representation. And Montana has passed Rhode Island in population, so it's possible they may gain a seat while RI loses one. (Depends on the 2020 census outcome, of course.)

[quote][R40] Alaska is not larger in POPULATION, which is what determines Congressional representation.
Uhm, yes but I am deciphering that post as making a little joke out of Montana' geographic size. It otherwise makes no sense as every state I listed has the same number of electoral votes (3) meaning having only one representative in the House. They basically all have about the same population, meaning not enough for a second congressional district.

My mom is from Montana and I have family there, so I've been going there my entire life. There are deplorables of course, though MT is more libertarian than it is Republican IMO. There are a lot of earthy types there too; the western portion of the state is more blue than the eastern. Billings, which is near the southern center, is the biggest city, and it's not big at all by major city standards, but it's certainly bigger than anywhere in Wyoming. I know that Butte-Silver Bow County leans hard democratic and always has, mainly because it was a mining town with a strong union history and a lot of Irish Catholics.

R63 Bozeman is a bit of an upscale town by Montana standards—it's more expensive to live there than other cities in MT. Like Missoula, it's a college town, but it's not as hippieish, and people also go there for skiing. It has a similar vibe to Kalispell IMO, minus the lake (and it's not as pretty).

Most young political stars try to marry into money. It's very helpful for a political career. All the biggest ones, Pelosi, Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz, Kirsten Gillibrand all married into wealth.
It's common especially for men, to wait until they actually win office so they can attract a woman (or maybe man in his case) from the wealthiest family possible.
Tom Cotton, Max Rose, and many others did this, got married immediately after winning. My guess is Winter wants to go down that route. In which case there's nothing unusual about him being single

Weird that he's ambiguous about his personal life. My guess is he's straight, but because of his upbringing, he's for sure dabbled with the man sex. Never met someone with a gay parent who hasn't dabbled. And if he was gay, I'm sure he'd admit it.

He went to the University of Montana in Missoula, which is a pretty progressive place.
I asked a gay UM student there how he seeks out sex. He told me the gay guys wait and enter a college bar toward closing time, and they start talking to drunk frat boys. He says the boys are pissed because all the girls passed on him. So the frat boys are offered a blow job and most accept the offer. Where it happens I don't know. I'm just surprised the frat boys were so accommodating.

R101 Yes and no. She was extremely wealthy when she married Geroge Washington, who was broke and desperately needed the money to properly establish himself at the time.
But the money came from her rich first husband, not her family. Her first husband died after only a few years of marriage. She was left with children that were far too young to inherit so she took over active control of his large fortune.

Nope, George inherited it from his older brother after the brothers widow remarried and left it. But at first he didn't have the money to keep it up so he leased it. His wife's fortune instead let him expand it greatly and buy many other properties besides.

Actually to be precise, George Washington inherited Mount Vernon after his niece and sister-in-law died. He also paid off debts using some money from his stepdaughter’s inheritance when she died as a child. It’s a weird feature of Washington’s biography that he kept getting ahead in life because of the untimely death of one family member after another
