When Richard Bright testified before Congress the other day, someone posted that he noticed Bright's lisp and questioned if he was gay. The same type of comment has been posted about H&HS testing 'czar' Brett Girard whenever he speaks at one of Trump's phony corona pressers. (Granted, Girard DOES sound a lot like Phil Rucker.) But is a lisp the dog whistle of gayness or am I reading too much into it?
Why is any guy with a lisp assumed to be gay?

It's a telltale sign. 90% accurate.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 17, 2020 10:42 PM |
I dunno. My personal experience is, I had one. Had speech therapy for it.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 17, 2020 10:43 PM |
Perhaps it's because sibilant and high voices don't sound strong, manly or decisive?
I kind of agree with R1's response, but I'd say it's more like 75% would be my estimate.
Also, on a semi-related note, there's an interesting documentary about this topic DO I SOUND GAY?

General Jim Mattis has a profound 'lateral lisp' and has been rumored to be gay. No evidence, though.

Such a lot of fuss over a few extra s's!

Bright has on a silver wedding ring. Who's the spouse?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 18, 2020 1:56 AM |
Queers always lisp.

Bright was interviewed tonight on 60 Minutes. He's adorable wit the lisp.

I thought he might be gay as soon I heard him speak. He also had rather form fitting pants. His family that accompanied him seemed to be a balding man and a teen boy. Anyone have any more details? Google doesn't turn up anything. The guy is sharp and excellent with his facts and didn't get to his position without being highly qualified.

Has anyone heard Surgeon General Jerome Adams? He has the sweetest lisp!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 18, 2020 1:09 PM |
A lisp is when your "s" sounds like your "th," as in "lithp."
Thath all.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 18, 2020 1:19 PM |
In females, a lisp is considered 'baby talk' and women sometimes affect a lisp to be cute. It's a whole different deal with men. They either have to work with a speech therapist to lose it or wear it as part of who they are.

Doctor: Big breaths.
Girl patient: Yeth, and I'm only thikthteen.

R13 Rimshot!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 19, 2020 2:40 PM |
R12 is right. That's part of the reason for the gay association, because a lisp is considered feminine.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 19, 2020 5:04 PM |
I didn't assume Bright was gay because of the lisp, it was his mannerisms that seemed really gay.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 19, 2020 5:30 PM |
Why is any man wearing a wedding ring considered straight?

An effeminate moth is called a myth... according to Capote.

Emmanuel Macron has a lisp.

Brute is adorable. I missed the tight pants!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 22, 2020 5:55 PM |
Oops. “Brite.”
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 22, 2020 5:55 PM |
R21 I preferred "Brute" !!

That football player on GMA has a horrible lisp. Can't watch him.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 22, 2020 6:01 PM |
It isn’t just the lisp, his mannerisms are gay too. He’s GAY, even if he won’t admit it,
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 22, 2020 6:03 PM |
R23 That's Michael Strahan. Is he gay? He never talks about wife or kids. What a hottie!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 22, 2020 6:06 PM |
Could it be because we don't like wishker bishkit?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 22, 2020 6:21 PM |
R1 is correct, except that it's not only gay men that have a lisp as part of their cluster. Lesbians and bisexuals of both genders have natural lisps as well. Most seek corrective speech therapy, or are offered the service free of charge.
Lisps do not occur naturally in heterosexuals.

"It's a telltale sign. 90% accurate."
Really? Most of the men I've known with a lisp weren't gay. Plenty of straight guys lisp - look at Humphrey Bogart
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 22, 2020 6:32 PM |
What about Mike Tyson? He has a lisp AND a feminine voice...
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 22, 2020 7:30 PM |
That's because he's bisexual, r29.
Not openly.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 22, 2020 7:32 PM |
Mike Tyson is a straight rapist.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 22, 2020 7:34 PM |
R28, he was a closeted bisexual.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 22, 2020 7:38 PM |
R31 So Mike is straight and only rapes women? R28 and R30 claim he's bisexual so maybe he also rapes men?
Either way, he's an animal. Rapists have their own circle in Hell.

Has there been a scientific correlation between a lisp and attraction to men. Like is a lisp a result of gay brain, or do guys with lisps act more feminine. Are does having a lisp make one more ostracized and as result end up gay.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 22, 2020 7:50 PM |
I don’t get the lisp thing or gay voice. I always assumed it was just put on to be more femme.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 22, 2020 7:52 PM |
r29, Mike Tyson's voice does not sound feminine to me. Yes he has a lisp, and is a bit pitchy but he never sounds feminine to me. I guess many of these things are subjective.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 22, 2020 7:53 PM |
R34, no, because females with same sex attraction still have lisps
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 22, 2020 7:53 PM |
Because they are, Rose.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 22, 2020 10:00 PM |
Because anything unattractive that a man does makes him appear "gay" to stupid people, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 22, 2020 10:45 PM |
That lispy lip makes my pussy cum.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 22, 2020 11:21 PM |
It’s harder in life for people with speech impediments, because they have to maintain baseline nice looks and a likeable demeanour to avoid being ridiculed.
Example: prowrestler Cody Rhodes has an awful case of lisping, but he’s incredibly cute and very in shape so he doesn’t get any stick for it. Personally I think he’s closeted, but I’m not sure that has any correlation to his lisp, and in any event he presents as a good Christian husband with a wife to whom he’s ostensibly faithful.
