Can't believe no one has mentioned his father- the famous (or infamous) Robert Barro who was a prominent figure in shifting academic economic theory away from the post-war Keynesian consensus and writes really obnoxious editorials in the WSJ denouncing the very idea of using federal fiscal policy to offset downturns in the business cycle (he was particularly nasty towards Obama in 2008-2009). He was also one of the first academic economists to make a fortune in the private sector in consulting, which is now commonplace but at the time was very controversial. Josh is the youngest of 4 kids and worked in investment banking for a few years before transitioning to journalism. He was once a vocal defender of his fathers economic views but has moved slightly to center/center-left over the last few years. I think Trump finally made him officially change his voter registration to democrat in 2016 and he has been a fierce critic ever since...

He definitely seems to have disappeared from MSNBC entirely (even before COVID). For quite awhile, he was a pundit on numerous shows and they even had him guest hosting a few times as a fill in for one of the absent political anchors. I wonder if there's a contractual conflict that now prevents him from appearing or if he has fallen out of favor with the network brass?

r38 Didn't he get a promotion at Business Insiders from a columnist to an editor? They may prohibit moonlighting on cable TV but political writers often appear on MSNBC, FOX, etc. to promote their print work so who knows. You would think he would be in demand as never trumpers like Bill Kristol, Steve Schmidt, Rick Wilson, etc. are on panels all the time - moderate republicans are an endangered species. Hell they even have Nicole Wallace a show and she and Schmidt were responsible for unleashing proto-trump Palin on us. Kristol may come across as affable and amiable now but he still is a war mongering prick...I don't think Josh is a republican anymore and he never was really all that conservative so I don't know where he fits in our current political firmament - he isn't a corporate hack like the Third Way types and he definitely isn't a wannabee socialist like the Berners.
