I've been struggling with Chasten of late. Pete has gone to ground, but Chasten can't stay off his Instagram channel. Sometimes I struggle with how much he hopes to shine a light and how much he can't let go of the limelight.

I'd rather read his memoir than one written by some washed up, bottle-blonde, botoxed, tired old Republican cunt

I hate memoirs that are like 200 pages, like Romeny's book. Obviously you haven't done all that much if that's all you can muster to jot down at 63 years old (in 2014). Chasten's can probably fit into a 100 page book. Pete could hit 200 + pages but his experiences appear to be lake wide, but puddle deep.

Won't most of the book be about how he secured a closet case Mayor looking for a house husband before he ran for DNC Chair or President? Besides that and the inevitable chapter about the boyfriend that took BDSM too far, I'm curious about what other amazing anecdotes are worth of a Chasten memoir. Oh, I forgot the fun chapter about meeting celebs when the Buttiguiges wen't Hollywood.

Chasten's craving of attention is annoying. He's only relevant due to being the spouse of Pete.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 13, 2020 6:02 PM |
Going to be a long 4 years. Chasten has to make money, his husband is unemployed. All things considered, Pete should have continued on as Mayor.

by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 13, 2020 6:12 PM |
r22 True.
His claim of fame is being the spouse of a presidential candidate who happens to be gay, for one year. His life is mostly drama free and he has zero accomplishments of his own. How much of an ego, entitlement one should have to think that world would be interested in reading one's life story ? I love Pete to death but Chasten really needs to form his own identity. He is just 30 years old.
r23 Pete can survive on his book earnings alone for the next couple of years. Shortest Way Home is one of the best political memoirs in the recent times.

Claim to fame*
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 13, 2020 6:12 PM |
Correction r24, in a just world, Bill Clinton would be preparing for his second term as First Gentleman. Pete hasn't even done a quarter of the things that Obama, Bill, or Hillary did for average Americans prior to running for President. They paid their dues, Pete is still an undercooked candidate.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 13, 2020 6:18 PM |

Pete was the most qualified candidate. He lost due to homophobia.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 13, 2020 7:04 PM |
I can't argue with your definition of qualifications for the job. He was over 35, so that counts for something. I don't see what Pete did that made him qualified? Surely not being mayor of a shitty little town. I used to live there, it's not much of anything. Military experience at his rank doesn't prepare one to lead the Executive Branch, even if every Republican vet acts like they are God's gift to America. He's smart, great. Being smart doesn't mean you can lead the country. Pete wilted under the frustrations of his black residents. He has no experience working with a legislature. A city council is not even close to the same thing. He has some executive experience as a mayor, but again a small town is nothing like being a Governor or Mayor of NYC or Chicago. It's just not the same.
Biden has been working within the FEDERAL government since 1972, then spent 8 years within the Executive Branch working on the President's behalf on a range of topics. He is the most qualified candidate this round. It's comical to even pretend otherwise.
Let's look at some other people. Kamala lead the nations second largest criminal justice department before becoming a senator. Warren literally created a federal agency before becoming a senator. Bernie was also a mayor, a congressman and senator. Klobuchar was a prosecutor in MN prior to joining the Senate in 2006. Bloomberg built a multibillion dollar corporation, then lead the most important city in America for 3 terms.
Sure there was homophobia, but also Pete was just introducing himself to the nation. It takes time and he needs to reach out to minority groups without cameras present before he tries again in 2024.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 13, 2020 8:04 PM |
Pete was the most qualified in that he was -- aside from being gay in a homophobic country -- the most electable.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 13, 2020 8:33 PM |
If he was the most electable he would be the nominee. No way a country this intrenched in religion and homophobia would elect an out gay President in 2020. Even most of the major European countries haven't achieved that goals for their heads of government. I love the optimism, but no.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 13, 2020 8:43 PM |
What has he actually done that anyone would want to read about? Maybe getting a job would be a good idea.

Why the hell is Ann Romney writing a memoir? She don't need the money. Her husband has like $500 million dollars in the bank. And who the hell wants to read about her over privileged entitled rich bitch life?
Why?
Why do some people think everyone wants to read about their life? Ann Romney is not Michelle Obama, I know she wanted to be first lady but she won't be. You can have everything in life. She's had a very privileged life from day one along with Cindy McCain, but it doesn't mean they should also be first ladies. A lot of these people are delusional as fuck.

This “memoir” plan is tawdry.
And if it is sanctioned by his spouse, only confirms the concerns about the couple in the first place.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 13, 2020 9:00 PM |
Then that's true of Hillary then too.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 13, 2020 9:02 PM |
Chasten is not even a historical figure. What makes him think he should write and put out a memoir? Who is he? He's not there yet. He needs to slow his roll.
He's looking really thirsty and fame hungry. That won't be a good look for Pete's future political aspirations. He needs to save his "story" for later. Maybe in a few decades people will care if pete ends up happening.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 13, 2020 9:04 PM |
[quote] Chasten is not even a historical figure.
That's homophobic.
Being the first gay political presidential candidate spouse is a huge deal in a place as homophobic as America.
I would love to hear his story. So long as it's not uplifting, but rather tragic recounting of all the homophobia he and Pete have been victim to. I doubt it will be though.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 13, 2020 9:08 PM |
Hillary Clinton was a former first lady, two time Senator, secretary of state, two time presidential candidate etc. Hillary Made it, chasten can't say the same yet. Hillary Clinton's place in history is solidified. She's a bonafide historical figure in America history, chasten isn't and this only makes him and pete look like their both out for $$$ and lots of it.
They better be careful. Because having their hands out for money isn't going to bode well with a lot of people.

Funny, these people getting so bent about Chasten writing a book/memoir, the people who want it will buy it and read it and those who don't won't, that is they way it should be. As far as being even given the opportunity, book publishers aren't really into charity, they apparently believe there is a market for this book. I mildly admire people who know how to monetize aspects of their lives and have the balls to do it.
I won't be reading it but it doesn't bother that it is happening. I have to wonder what is missing in your life if this is what you choose to get upset about today.

by Anonymous | reply 63 | May 13, 2020 9:49 PM |
r56 it just sounds foolish to write such a book at this stage of his life, unless Pete is done with politics. Ann Romney was a mother of 25 children or something and First Lady of MA for 8 years. It's not interesting but it's something to write about. Chasten has basically done nothing. A lot of us wouldn't mind a memoir, but who rights one at like 37 when all they've done is live in some flyover state and joined their husband on a campaign trail? It just screams money grab like others have said and seems rather insincere. If some other gay man at Chasten's age and experience had written a book DL would also laugh them out of here.
If he answers the pressing question about Pete, top or bottom, I will eat crow and buy the book.

No r47, our struggle is being sold out for a cheap book deal by people like the Buttigiegs. Always look at what people do before they become famous. Pete was always about Pete, which is why he jumped from one job to the next. Chasten was a teacher, that's noble and all, but doesn't equate to a compelling story to sell a book.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | May 13, 2020 9:56 PM |

And that's a good thing.

by Anonymous | reply 68 | May 13, 2020 9:58 PM |
If he wants to write a memoir, fine let him write it. However, he did so many interviews on the trail and opened up about lots of personal stuff, what exactly will he include in the book that he hasn't already shared?
I doubt Pete will allow anything more than what he's already shared to be included in the book.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | May 13, 2020 9:59 PM |
More book material than Markle anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | May 13, 2020 10:01 PM |
Not when you are trying to garner votes as a Democrat r67, we don't play that game. You can't just show up out of the blue and ask voters to support you over the people that have been there fighting beside them for decades. This is why Kamala, Booker, Pete, Amy, Warren, and Bernie had a wake up call with black voters. You need to show us that you give a damn, just like all of those candidates did with white voters. This is politics 101. Pete can act like Bernie. Cash in with book deals for him and his spouse, buy a nice second home, then try to run again in 2024. Or he can really make a splash in minority communities to expand his base and build bonds. The key to beating homophobia is showing up and building bonds, not making speeches during a campaign.
Again, he can focus on himself, but it won't help him become president in the Democratic Party.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 13, 2020 10:11 PM |

Pete withdrew his candidacy after the SC primary and before Super Tuesday, and endorsed Biden. That helped Biden. Biden obviously likes Pete. Pete and Yang recently did a campaign segment together in behalf of Biden. Pete will receive a cabinet post under Biden. That will give him federal government executive experience.

If that happens r81, will we get a sequel titled, "Finding Dupont's Circle", where Chasten gushes about the ladies and a gentleman who lunch in DC. I assume they will adopt by then so we can't forget the childcare segments. Then they will include a section where they pretend to care about leaving IN behind.
