I remember they were trying to get this made back when Brokeback came out, fifteen years ago.

Will there be shower scenes?

by Anonymousreply 1May 12, 2020 5:22 PM

As a gay who likes sports, I find most gay themed sports books, movies and plays to be tiresome. (Shower scene from the baseball play excepted). Either they rely on falling in love with a straight man (yawn) or its someone with an athlete fetish writing his fantasy. Hopefully this will be better.

I have never read this book, I'll probably read it soon. The Art of Fielding was a great sports novel and it had subplot about closeted college president have an affair with a member of the baseball team.

The book is actually very good.

I can see parallels, but I don't think the author should have named this after the ugly incident of French anti-semitism that the world doesn't know about:

The problem is, people are going to mistake a fantasy baseball story for the real shit that went down in France.

Is it about zoophilia?

It's a fun read!

by Anonymousreply 8May 12, 2020 7:03 PM

The book starts off well but goes off the rails in the latter 1/4.

I remember imagining a young Kevin Costner when I first read the novel.

Bought the kindle for $2.99. Hope there's dong.

I want to see explicit scenes of the man up in the man. And a surprise cameo by Miranda Priestly.

They were trying to make a movie in the 90s

by Anonymousreply 13May 12, 2020 10:34 PM

Yes, this thing has been in development hell for at least 14-15 years. Next thing you know, someone will drag THE FRONT RUNNER out of the mothballs again.

I remember them talking about the movie in the ‘90s when I was in college floating big name straight actors for the roles. I hate that because it plays up the gay men have a fetish for straight men stereotype (I, personally, do not) and don’t want to have hear all the time through promotion how the actor is straight in his private life and how brave he was for taking the role, and how we should all be so grateful.

It’s a very funny book. There are no graphic sex scenes in the book, at all.
