I chose Flashdance, but I loved Stand Back as well. I think Flashdance captured the zeitgeist of the era just a little bit more.

I voted for Irene Cara, with Stevie Nicks a close second.
I certainly don't remember Frida being #20 song of the year. Madonna's hits had much more airplay where I grew up.

Stevie was definitely my favorite at the time (I was 10).
The debut albums of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper both came out in '83 but they didn't really hit until the next year.
