No! Mind your own business!

by Anonymousreply 1May 2, 2020 7:45 PM

Agree, OP.

by Anonymousreply 2May 2, 2020 7:46 PM

Agreed, OP. It takes up too much space.

Apparently granite countertops and space for entertaining are also important to Mesoamericans (middle U.S. that is not Central America).

by Anonymousreply 4May 2, 2020 7:47 PM

Because not all of us live in our parents basement like you OP. We actually like nice things.

so then tell us what is nice about a kitchen island?

by Anonymousreply 6May 2, 2020 7:53 PM

Space. I would love an island.

It prevents stuff from getting onto the wall if you are using various different cooking machinery.

Thankfully I won't have this problem when I redo my kitchen this fall. I don't have a big enough kitchen for an island.

People from the mainland are always trying to belittle us.

"Thankfully I won't have this problem when I redo my kitchen this fall. I don't have a big enough kitchen for an island."

That's never stopped anyone else from putting one of these behemoths in a 9' x 12' kitchen;

by Anonymousreply 11May 2, 2020 8:08 PM

They do take up a lot of space, only makes sense if you have a large kitchen.

We like to entertain and the guests invariably convene in the kitchen, which is why we must have an open concept. An island allows them to sit and chat. It helps to keep the house clean, since those pigs won't be wandering thgough the house, getting it dirty.

It makes sense for TV shows so that characters can perform kitchen work without having to turn their backs to the camera. And everyone else copies the people on TV and in movies.

by Anonymousreply 14May 2, 2020 8:17 PM

We need an island to entertain! OPEN CONCEPT!

by Anonymousreply 15May 2, 2020 8:21 PM

I don't have an island (my kitchen is too small), but I can tell you why I'd like to have one: it's psychological.

I don't like having my back to the room; I prefer having my back to the wall and facing into an open area while working.

I have a small condo with a 36 inch cabinet and a butcher block on top as an island. It's useful for placing my keys and work badge (and mask) so I don't forget them when I leave or dropping grocery bags on when I get home.

Nothing says design like opening your front door and having everyone see your fucking kitchen first thing. And of course when I entertain I spend all my time in the kitchen. It's not like I'd hire my gal to come over and help for the evening. Honestly, I've never been to a party where people congregate in the kitchen. That's where the help is. Seriously. Where did this whole thing come from?

by Anonymousreply 19May 2, 2020 10:06 PM

I'll just die if I don't get a kitchen Island

by Anonymousreply 20May 2, 2020 10:53 PM

Why is it so important to have a Kitchen Island in your kitchen?

If your kitchen is in a large room with too little storage and counter space, then a kitchen island can address both issues.

Otherwise, the only thing a kitchen island is good for is to speed you in dropping cuttings and water and grease all over your kitchen floor.
