One of the sisters was fired because she was fucking Nat King Cole. That might not have been so bad but she telephoned Cole's wife and told he to divorce Nat which made things rather difficult for him for a while.

Green Acres was a spin off of Petticoat Junction.
Paul Henning, who was a staff writer for Burns and Allen on the radio (now you know where Lisa Douglas came from), created the Beverly Hillbillies. He was a fan of Bea Benaderet and wanted to work with her. Bea wanted to play Granny, but Paul didn't feel she was right for the part, so he created Cousin Pearl for her.
After a year, he was asked to create another show for CBS and he wanted to put Bea in it. So he created Petticoat Junction, very loosely based on his relatives wanting to own a rural inn. CBS then asked him to create another show, but he was too busy. So he told them he could spin off a failed radio show Granby's Green Acres, from Petticoat Junction.
Thus Green Acres could be the third show without having to put too much time into it, since it was done on radio before.
