I’ll have to detox if they do...
Do you think liquor stores will be closed?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 3, 2020 2:05 PM |
Up to the individual owner but they haven’t closed in NY for the most part. They do local delivery and curbside pick up near me. Restaurants can sell cocktails and bottles of wine to go. And there is a plethora of online delivery options. Plan ahead.
I was drinking too much during the first three weeks of self-isolation so am drying out now. Don’t want to develop a bad habit and definitely don’t want to get fat. Both would be easy for me to do.

Yes, in NY, liquor stores on the essential businesses list and it's up to the individual owners.
OP, wine.com has wine and spirits and they deliver everywhere.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 30, 2020 9:22 PM |
Nah.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 30, 2020 9:39 PM |
fuck no
it's the very definition of 'essential, especially now
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 30, 2020 10:26 PM |
They won’t. It’s an essential business because you don’t want people going into DTs and clogging up emergency rooms even more.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 30, 2020 10:28 PM |
In Houston they are classified as essential. They claim it's because they don't want drunks going into withdrawal and landing in the hospital. Also, in Texas they changed the law so restaurants can deliver mixed drinks. In other words: GOD BLESS TEXAS.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 30, 2020 10:33 PM |
Have been closed in PA. 2 weeks now. Generally ok for me as I only drink when I go out. But I am shocked all the alcoholics are being forced to go cold turkey. I guess they can drive to another state. But would think a lot of them don’t have cars or had their license revoked from DUIs. I’ve been curious.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 30, 2020 10:37 PM |
It’s silly to cause people to get DTs. Americans drink a lot including me.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 30, 2020 10:41 PM |
not as long as people still vote
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 30, 2020 10:45 PM |
It’s happening in Massachusetts (just for a week).
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 30, 2020 10:48 PM |
They're open in Chicago, along with the pot dispensaries. Essential businesses, don'tcha know?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 30, 2020 10:53 PM |
If they close, they could sell their inventory to grocery stores so people could still buy their hooch (that is, for the states where it's legal to sell in grocery stores)
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 30, 2020 10:59 PM |
Gov. Devine has closed all liquor stores in Ohio.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 30, 2020 11:00 PM |
I hope so. I don’t care.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 30, 2020 11:41 PM |
[quote]They won’t. It’s an essential business because you don’t want people going into DTs and clogging up emergency rooms even more.
I think if liquor stores did close and people went into DTs all at once, we would be absolutely shocked at how many alcoholics there really are out there.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 31, 2020 12:25 AM |
In states like PA and Ohio you can still buy booze in supermarkets. In a state like CT you're shit out of luck.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 31, 2020 12:26 AM |
In PA (as mentioned above I think) you can get liquor at local distilleries—they even deliver. Does CT have that available?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 31, 2020 12:29 AM |
The liquor stores in NYC are doing a booming business right now, all deliveries, and their orders are backed up.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 31, 2020 12:39 AM |
Yes, CT has breweries and distilleries. Wine and Liquor can only be sold in liquor stores, no other retail places. Beer is the only alcohol that can be sold in supermarkets. No alcohol of any kind can be sold in convenience stores, drugstores or gas stations.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 31, 2020 12:40 AM |
In PA, only about 3 supermarkets have been given approval to sell beer and wine. All Liquor sales are basically banned.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 31, 2020 12:59 AM |
The province of British Columbia has deemed Liquor Stores ( mostly government run) to be an essential service.
The word is, cutting alcohol sales off to those who are dependent on booze would probably cause more trouble than it's worth.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 31, 2020 1:00 AM |
R20, all of the supermarkets in my area can sell beer and wine—I think your info is old.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 31, 2020 1:02 AM |
It’s pitiful that people think they need alcohol. What’s worse is that some think there is nothing wrong with that
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 31, 2020 1:06 AM |
R23, some people DO need alcohol. Otherwise they’ll end up in the emergency room at not a good time right now. Get off your high horse.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 31, 2020 1:54 AM |
What r24 said. The last thing we need right now is people clogging up the emergency rooms with alcohol withdrawal. Alcohol withdrawal is an extremely serious condition that requires immediate medical attention. It's best just to let everybody drink at the moment so they stay out of hospitals.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 31, 2020 1:58 AM |
I am drinking to kill time and numb the reality that 1 out of 5 people I know will be knocked out by COVID-19
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 31, 2020 2:02 AM |
In the UK everywhere sells.it. Corner shops, petrol stations, off licenses and all the supermarkets have a full range of spirits, wine, beer.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 31, 2020 2:06 AM |
Another view is a lot of ER visits are caused by excessive alcohol intake. Maybe minimizing drunken accidents is a good thing.
It is a wake up call that alcohol is addicting. Even the craving for Friday evening drinks is alcoholic in some way.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 31, 2020 4:51 AM |
Pennsylvania has done me proud. We only need another 49 states and I'm back in business. You could see me smiling here if it weren't for the mustache.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 31, 2020 5:07 AM |
We're going to need more than liquor to get use through this nightmare. The government should start distributing tranquilizers.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 31, 2020 5:11 AM |
They are closed now in my neck of the woods until April 15 so that they can use liquor alcohol to produce rubbing alcohol.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 31, 2020 8:06 AM |
...Because you could never perceive yourself in that 20% R26?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 31, 2020 10:59 AM |
They tried to ban liquor in Denver, but reversed it the next day, when crowds of people gathered to stock up. It defeats the purpose of staying at home.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 31, 2020 11:18 AM |
Liquor stores are still open in the Great Lakes area. We're heavy drinkers here (and I mean "heavy" in capacity and body weight). All of the above posters who commented about detox and ER overload are correct. Midwest hospitals would buckle under the load of alcoholics who would need medical attention. Now a cruel thought. During this time of crisis, why should an ER accept a detoxing alcoholic? I've been through detox twice and went back to drinking within months. Why waste a medical professional's time on someone who is not committed to living a healthy life?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 31, 2020 11:34 AM |
I'm not the least bit worried
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 31, 2020 12:35 PM |
R7 with the State Stores closed, Alcoholics Anonymous will force their members to get sober without their coffee and sugar doughnuts meetings. AA will go outta business.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 31, 2020 12:50 PM |
I was terrified that they would close them in my state and made two trips in two days, profusely thanking the staff for performing an essential service!
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 31, 2020 2:28 PM |
Many chain liquor stores in NJ are now curbside only. This just started in my area this weekend. I'm fine with that. In NJ, you can't buy anything with alcohol content in stores other than liquor stores.
I am trying to watch my intake. Last week, I started having a martini before dinner. I've stopped doing that.
I've heard AA meetings are now online only due to social distancing.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 31, 2020 2:33 PM |
NO, alcohol stops corona in its tracks, we need it.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 31, 2020 2:45 PM |
Some of you act like ladies from the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. Not everyone who drinks will go into the DTs if they can’t get a bottle of Thunderbird like a skid row bum. A nice glass of wine is fine to sip on a housebound evening.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 31, 2020 2:51 PM |
Very happy I live in place where you can buy alcohol in the grocery or drug stores.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 31, 2020 2:54 PM |
R40, how does that work? (Speaking as someone in Philadelphia 😄😄😄.) Do they check license plates?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 31, 2020 4:52 PM |
Fuck you, R14 and R23. Self-righteous cunts.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 31, 2020 6:54 PM |
I don't judge anyone for drinking right now. Stuck at home with nothing to do all day, why not have a few drinks?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 31, 2020 7:16 PM |
Down here in the Atlanta Metro area the supermarkets have beer and wine. Plus there's a drive thru liquor store in Atlanta. Very cool.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 31, 2020 7:43 PM |
I'm wiping my ass with tube socks. I've lost my dignity so don't fuck with my rum supply.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 31, 2020 8:21 PM |
R44, R40 here. Not sure I understand your question. Anyone can order alcohol . You just can't go in the store to get it. I live 30 miles from the Delaware Water Gap and PA. I wonder how many PA residence are driving to NJ or NY for alcohol.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 31, 2020 8:34 PM |
I swear I will kill ya if you try to take away my booze!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 31, 2020 10:16 PM |
R49, how do you get stronger liquor (not wine/beer) with the state stores closed? Does the state store deliver? My thought is going to NJ, but I think it’s actually still illegal to buy liquor in NJ and take it back to PA.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 1, 2020 1:17 AM |
Illegal? Who's going to be stopping you between NJ and PA, R51?
wine.com delivers everywhere including PA, directly to you, and carry wines and spirits.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 1, 2020 2:28 AM |
Wine.com only delivers wine in PA, not strong spirits (I can get wine in the supermarket). I think, luckily, that people are no longer monitored going to NJ to buy liquor. It used to be monitored and people were given tickets.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 1, 2020 2:45 AM |
I did not realize how restricted liquor sales still are in some states. Here we have wine, beer and booze in the supermarkets.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 1, 2020 2:53 AM |
The Northeast states still have draconian liquor laws, it's ridiculous. Until just a few years ago, CT liquor stores were not allowed to be open on Sundays. No liquor or wine allowed to be sold anywhere except liquor stores, or "package stores" as they're always called.
Going to the liquor store is called a "packie run." When I lived in CA and said that, people thought I was making a racial slur lol! They had no idea what I was really talking about.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 1, 2020 2:57 AM |
PA is ridiculous. Liquor stores are closed. We have separate state licensed stores that are allowed to sell beer - and they have tried to stay open by justifying that the water and snacks they sell are essential - lol. Finally made some cracks in the antediluvian laws thanks to our great Dem governor Wolf - but the entrenched monopoly is putting up a fight to the end. Fortunately, DE and NJ are not far for many - assuming you have a car.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 1, 2020 4:48 AM |
Ugh, my liquor store has reached its max for online orders today so I'll have to try again tomorrow. I have wine and vodka so there's no urgency. Worse comes to worst, I can always find a hole-in-the-wall place that will overcharge me.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 2, 2020 7:53 PM |
Update to R57, I logged back onto the website last night at 10:30 pm. I was able to process my order!!
