"The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young."
What did Oscar Wilde mean when he said

Old people still feel young

Remembering how it felt to be young.

Not one of his best.

But still well above OP's level of literacy, r3.

R4 thought he came up with something witty. Bless his fat heart.

There are tons of sites that are still debating its meaning.

That one remembers what being young was like, which makes the insults of getting older and old age even more unbearable. I think it's actually one of his best.

In middle age I didn't think about my youth. It was all sex and career. Now nearing retirement I remember it more, not the sex part, but family, grandparents, etc.

It means you still think you're young, although you're actually old. Some people hate having to accept that.

This one fits Madonna much better:
“Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.”

I think it's that, no matter how old you are, you don't feel like you've lived long enough yet.

This is why I wanted one last summer... I’m... an age... but it isn’t over yet. I just wanted one more to count on and then what happened happened, in all respects. And along came this.

Inside, you always feel like you're 20-something. I still jump up to help someone lift something heavy, even though, after I broke my back four years ago, I can barely lift 20lbs.

He was senile when he made that statement or wrote it. You have to overlook him.

Sampling DL is not unlike imbibing a restorative tonic -- an emetic, in this case. Ever your own,

Oscar Wilde said it best when he said:
“Don’t ever shove a lightbulb up your ass. Just don’t.”

Did he say anything about gerbils, R16?
