I love KITH but I’m not sure this will work.

by Anonymousreply 1March 5, 2020 11:37 PM

I loved The Kids in the Hall! I am surprised the original series is not streaming anywhere. I actually bought the "Best of" episodes for each season a couple of weeks ago.

by Anonymousreply 2March 5, 2020 11:38 PM

I am not sure either, R1. But they used to play a lot of old lady characters, so maybe!

by Anonymousreply 3March 5, 2020 11:40 PM

They were on tour a few years ago and Buddy Cole has an all new show touring around the US and Canada.

by Anonymousreply 4March 5, 2020 11:43 PM

Buddy Cole is needed in these woke times.

by Anonymousreply 5March 5, 2020 11:44 PM

Way worse things have been revived!!! Some mindless entertainment is really needed right now.

by Anonymousreply 6March 5, 2020 11:45 PM

KIDS?!? They're all OLD men now!

by Anonymousreply 7March 5, 2020 11:53 PM

It's a fact!

The Queen doesn't know her ABCs!

Sad, eh?

Monty python was still touring up until Terry Jones came down with aphasia dementia. But I think they were doing shows where they talked about skits & took questions rathe4 than actually doing skits. Cleese & Terry had to pay off their ex-wives.

now, which one ISN'T gay, again?

by Anonymousreply 11March 6, 2020 12:37 AM

With all new Kids, hopefully.

by Anonymousreply 12March 6, 2020 12:48 AM

That was the beauty of the show, R11!

by Anonymousreply 13March 6, 2020 1:36 AM

I own the entire DVD box set and pull it out from time to time and watch it, and am amazed. This wild show was its own universe. It seems almost forgotten now!

I imagine the re-boot could seem stiff and forced. You can't recreate past magic. But... who knows! As a fan it will be exciting to have it back, and I'll gladly "tune" in to check it out.

by Anonymousreply 14March 6, 2020 1:43 AM

Dave looks like a lesbian

by Anonymousreply 15March 6, 2020 2:48 AM

Their drag skits made them funny . I couldnt imagine any of them in drag now . Cathy with a C and Kathy with a K were priceless. I still love their movie Brain Candy and watch it all the time.

by Anonymousreply 16March 6, 2020 4:06 AM

They can't film it in Canada, right? I thought that Dave Foley owed a ton in child support and apparently he'll be arrested if he returns to Canada. He's my least favourite member of KITH, so I don't care.

They were on tour a few years ago and were great live. They did updated versions of some of their best past characters as well as brand new material. Still the same quirky point of view (not so much gay, but definitely gay friendly), the same charm. Their chemistry as a group was palpable, like seeing old friends in the best possible way. The nearly sold out crowd loved it. I can't wait.

by Anonymousreply 18March 6, 2020 4:14 AM

I really liked Dave Foley - along with Bruce McCulloch and Scott Thompson. Of the 5 seasons, which seasons were the best?

by Anonymousreply 19March 6, 2020 4:18 AM

I thought it was Kids of the Hall???

by Anonymousreply 20March 6, 2020 4:30 AM

The office frau sketches were my favorite.

by Anonymousreply 21March 6, 2020 4:36 AM

R20 No.

by Anonymousreply 22March 6, 2020 4:46 AM

r20 Talk to Jack Benny, he'll explain it.

I will tune in, always thought these guys were great and should've been more popular.

by Anonymousreply 23March 6, 2020 6:19 AM

Anyone remember the sketch where Mark McKinney played a secretary who had a big box of kitchen matches and couldn't stop lighting fires in the office? It was so bizarre and hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 24March 6, 2020 6:28 AM

i'd love to see them do the chicken lady again.

by Anonymousreply 25March 6, 2020 6:32 AM

I'm crushing your head!

by Anonymousreply 26March 6, 2020 6:40 AM

r24 That was the sketch of a French employee, who was a pyromaniac, and she worked in an insurance company. Scott Thompson's character had to follow her around an office putting out the fires she started using matches, all the time berating Dave Foley's character for doing nothing to stop her.

"You can't fire me, I'm from France."

by Anonymousreply 27March 6, 2020 9:01 AM

"Hi! Nina from Joymakers."

by Anonymousreply 28March 6, 2020 12:41 PM

I've listened to tons of Jack Benny radio shows and never once heard him use the phrase "the kids in the hall." I love KITH, but I think they made that up.

I wonder if a 60-ish Bruce McCullough will be playing Gavin?

The SJW brigade will eat them alive.

by Anonymousreply 30March 6, 2020 12:57 PM

Their drag skits were pretty great. I remember the one where some secretary fraus go out after work and it's pretty hilarious in an AbFab way.

by Anonymousreply 31March 6, 2020 1:10 PM

Bruce will always be my favorite!!! He's so quirky it's almost insane.

He was hysterical in "Arrested Development" as the priest-host of the local public access show "And As It Is Such, So Also As Such, Is It Unto You"

I always loved the one where Kathy and friends retire on the porch after a dinner party and discuss their favorite desserts.

"I'll get the sweatpants!"

Méchant! Mon feu!

by Anonymousreply 34March 6, 2020 1:39 PM

I had the biggest crush on Bruce ! Once again I am SHOCKED at how fast time has gone by .

by Anonymousreply 35March 6, 2020 2:23 PM

Mix mix, stir stir.

Married young, it's all a blur.

by Anonymousreply 36March 6, 2020 2:40 PM

r29 The Kids in the Hall refers to the comedy writers who were so desperate to write for Benny, that they literally hung around in the hall outside his studio office. If he happened to use one of their jokes, he'd attribute the witticism to one of "the kids in the hall."

by Anonymousreply 37March 6, 2020 6:26 PM

The best news this year so far.

by Anonymousreply 38March 6, 2020 8:47 PM

“Hey, check out the new Kids In The Hall!” “Will do.”

“So, did you watch it?” (beat) “Huh. Slipped my mind...”

Buddy Cole is going to be REALLY controversial this time around. Scott’s new material includes going after trans kids and their parents that parade them around on tv. He doesn’t believe trans kids exist.

by Anonymousreply 41March 9, 2020 4:53 PM

R41 Can't wait!

by Anonymousreply 42March 9, 2020 6:54 PM

I'll have to add it to my Things To Do list. I love KITH.

Last year a book came out about them, The Kids In The Hall: One Dumb Guy. Most of the guys had pretty bad childhoods. Dave and Kevin were friends, Bruce and Mark were friends, they were all comics, Scott was an actor.

They've had ups and downs. Their movie, Brain Candy, was a flop. They did a miniseries that was pretty funny, Death Comes To Town.

My favorite was Dave. Next would be Kevin, Scott and Mark. Bruce was amazing in some things, Gavin, Gordon (irate husband of Fran), Flying Pig, Kathy, and of course Tammy. But sometimes whole sketches of his were so esoteric I couldn't wait for them to end.

I'm really happy they're going to reunite but don't want to support Amazon. I want to see it though.

Did anyone watch The Whitest Kids U Know? It was another Canadian sketch comedy show that had similar humor. Most of the guys were cute too.

^I tried hard to like this show. Just pales next to KITH.

by Anonymousreply 46March 9, 2020 8:22 PM

The It’s A Fact girl tweeted the guys two years ago. They should get her back.

by Anonymousreply 47March 9, 2020 8:53 PM

Which one of them had the biggest dick?

by Anonymousreply 48March 9, 2020 8:54 PM

I'm guessing Mark McKinney. He was tall and lean back then and has BDF.

by Anonymousreply 49March 9, 2020 8:56 PM

One of my favorite sketches:

So excited for this. Getting so sick of hearing about the reboots. Friends, etc. This one is I am actually looking forward to. And I know the guys really need the money. I actually just bought the box set from Amazon and it excited to go down memory lane. I used to stay up late in my twenties and watch it on HBO. Had the biggest crush on Bruce.

by Anonymousreply 51March 9, 2020 9:28 PM

They have to bring the secretaries back, those sketches were always great.

"I haven't shot an elk in three years. I must be getting old."

by Anonymousreply 52March 9, 2020 9:36 PM

They're back -- just in time for them all to die of the coronavirus.

by Anonymousreply 53March 9, 2020 9:45 PM

Kevin McDonald is 40 bucks on cameo.

by Anonymousreply 54March 9, 2020 10:00 PM

I want Her Majesty back and Tammy!!!

by Anonymousreply 55March 9, 2020 10:01 PM

Which characters/sketches would work with less youthful players? Definitely the secretaries. Also the ones with bickering middle-aged couples. "Crushing your head."

by Anonymousreply 56March 9, 2020 10:02 PM

“Tammy, how do feel about abortion?”

“Not on the first date.”

by Anonymousreply 57March 9, 2020 10:02 PM

That god for streaming platforms. I love all the old shows they’re bringing back and new ones they’re commissioning! No commercials either.

by Anonymousreply 58March 9, 2020 10:03 PM

Friends isn’t getting rebooted. Isn’t it just some sit down interview thing?

by Anonymousreply 59March 9, 2020 10:04 PM

I feel just like a Benetton ad!

by Anonymousreply 60March 9, 2020 10:05 PM

We can only hope.

by Anonymousreply 61March 9, 2020 10:05 PM

In your case, your face frames your hair.

by Anonymousreply 62March 9, 2020 10:06 PM

So who had the most individual success subsequent to the series. Dave and Kevin had a lot of sitcom work. I think Dave had the most prominent role on Newsradio. Mark did a lot of SNLish stuff and Scott did some movies and TV. Not sure about Bruce, he hasn't come across my radar.

That's off the top of my head. I keep thinking I am slighting Scott. I loved the "EVIL!" thing Dave and Kevin did.

I look forward to it.

by Anonymousreply 63March 9, 2020 10:19 PM

We did nothing but talk about Cher and Aspen.

Wow! Trippy!

by Anonymousreply 64March 10, 2020 12:22 AM

None of them became stars.

One credit not mentioned was Scott being on Garry Shandling's show.

One of their most controversial sketches, one guaranteed to offend a lot of people (but they still did it again on tour) is when they mocked the Gospels like they were Dr Seuss.

Love the Citizen Kane sketch.
