I wish he'd pick Kamala. or someone who could be VP until he dies or until the term is up, then that would give them that much more exposure and experience.

MO will NEVER do it. Oprah would take VP before MO.

Oh, hell.Elizabeth Warren and Julian Castro, and Kamala Harris are all good choices. Joe may even want to think outside the world of politics and go for a popular celebrity like Tom Hanks or Dr. Oz. Maybe Dr.Phil. Give America therapist in chief.

Obama seems happy with his Martha's vineyard mansion, Netflix and book deals and probably making a shitload of money with public appearances. Why bother with a corrupt Washington establishment who hated him anyway.
Why isn't Michelle running for office though? She's charismatic and probably even more qualified than Dump after 8 years at the WH.

Sanders is way ahead of him already. And will do better than Biden on Super Tuesday.

Pete did great and I think he is a great American. He would be an interesting VP pick if only for the sake of the brief moment he would share the stage with fellow Indianan Mike Pence in a VP debate. Pete vs. Pence in a head to head match up! Pete believes in science and he can quote scripture better than Pence.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 2, 2020 5:01 AM |
my guess it will be a sanders/biden ticket.
Biden is the only one that has a strong AA support in this race, besides Bernie. This way we keep Warren in the Senate. We need the senate too. Bernie can basically name his replacement, Vermont loves that dude. The Obamas will campaign for the Democrats in house and senate races.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 2, 2020 5:02 PM |
I am afraid Biden will do something weird and stupid like picking a moderate Republican. Joe is all about the "I can work across the aisle" bullshit. Hillary made a mistake picking boring Tim Kaine, virtually anyone would have brought more voters along with her than Tim Kaine.
Moderate Republican, good luck finding one.

Biden and should be able to get the black vote all on his own.

R44 True about Biden and the black vote. However Kamala has never lost an election, Abrams has..In addition ,she has been a Senator just as long as Obama was when he was running for president.

I am thinking that biden will once again be VP, this time for President Bernie Sanders. In all the polls, they beat trump. There is no need to get an inexperience and untested person. Unity Ticket.
All the other senators need to stay in the us senate. we need the US Senate too. Bernie can basically name his replacement in Vermont. Biden is not in office right now, so you lose nothing. Obviously, he isvery well liked as a VP, given the polling about him.

Why do some DL posters keep pushing Kamala Harris? Exactly what would she bring to the ticket? CA is already solid Blue. American Blacks don't see her as one of them but a wannabe. She turns off Mid Western Swing State Moderates. Her personality is abrasive.
Best opportunity for Kamala would be Attorney General where a barracuda would be an advantage. Not VP.

Stacey won't happen because Biden is so old and she has limited experience
Kamala looks better on paper than she does in person--imploded big time in the primaries and will be a liability
Beto would have been a good choice--he could easily pass for Biden's son, personality wise-- but he has a penis
Ditto Pete who would be great debating Closeted Pence
Amy K could help pull in midwestern Karens.

Elizabeth Warren would be the most sensible choice. She would bring in the more progressive voters Joe has a deficit with, and she will bring in some of the Bernie crowd.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 2, 2020 10:14 PM |
No. Warren needs to order up a party keg of Michelob Ultra Light, phone in the announcement to end her campaign and drink until she passes out. Tonight. She's good for Secretary of Something.

I’ve actually become convinced that Pete should be Biden’s VP. I don’t care if it’s two white men. I think they balance each other in fundamental ways - Biden is the experienced statesman, popular with reliable minority voting blocks. Pete is the fresh face outsider political talent of the next generation - the future of the party. He’s sharp and intelligent and from the Midwest - and he could actually garner significant enthusiasm from swing state white voters.
I think they would actually be a formidable ticket.

Biden should choose a Latino VP. Latino votes have [italic]actually[/italic] helped turn states blue out here in the west -- Colorado, Nevada, California, and possibly Arizona and Texas next.
But that doesn't get recognized as much here because this board is very eastern-centric (as in east of the Mississippi) and it's all about them. At least the changing demographics over here are helping turn states from red-to-blue.
I don't know what the hell is going on over there. It looks like one big mess to me.

R89, I suspect that because DL is eastern-centric, they only recognize varying shades of black or white demographics. It's either rust belt whites this or southern blacks that. It sounds exhausting and mystifying.
But that's OK -- we're used to getting ignored out west here.

I'm a huge fan of Pete, but any man - not just a white man, any male - is going to be a tough row to hoe for Biden. There are so many women who feel betrayed right now - betrayed by what happened to Hillary in '16, betrayed by what happened to Kamala, betrayed by what's now happened to Warren - that the choice of a male Veep would be disastrous (for either Biden or Bernie).
Since there is a good likelihood that the Veep for the Dem nominee (either one) this year would go on to inherit the office, the choice is important. Everyone knows whoever the female Veep is, is likely to become the first female President.

The majority of America, and even the majority of the Democratic party, has shown it is not interested in a female president at this time. If the majority or even a large percentage (say...15% of the Democratic electorate of an abundance of states) of them were, we'd still have a whip-smart lady in the running this election cycle. Putting a female into the VP slot with Biden when the chances are he'll be a one-term president (should he win) just to appease disappointed Warren voters, is ludicrous and would only do harm to the ticket in attracting the majority of votes needed.

What happened to Kamala and Warren? Other than not enough people voted for them? Warren came in a distant third in her HOME STATE! We should put her on the ticket? Hasn’t the public spoken?

R133 - Well for one, Kamala Harris was never ON any ballot - part of why she very wisely exited when she did. Her polling wasn't looking great, but she remains a rock star in politics and a household name. She achieved a well-deserved voice. Warren is wonderful, but also never had a chance. I can see an appetite for a female VP, but not a female President. Sad but true. And if you think for one second that Dumpy Trump is not going to drop "Mother" Mike Pence and pick up Nikki Haley....just mark my words. My bet is that he will do it no matter who Joe chooses. If Trump ends up looking like the more progressive thinker of the bunch - what a shame for us. I really do think that our party is ready for a female VP. Said it.

Amy, Kamala, Cory, and Liz are from solid blue states. Stacy and Pete have never won a statewide race. Sen. Sherrord Brown has progressive creds and he's been been reelected twice in purple state Ohio. Take Ohio from Trump and he has no path to victory.

[quote]Why do people think the VP choice will come from the ranks of the also rans. Just because you know their names. You are all such giddy twats.
Because Biden will be the oldest President we’ve ever had. It’s very likely he won’t finish his term and the VP will become President. This year, more than ever, people need to be comfortable that the VP is up to the job. The former contenders all have national recognition and have already been vetted for the Presidency. A lesser known governor or other representative hasn’t been.

Biden will want someone who has name recognition. He may also want someone who is not too identified with Obama. I'd love to see some Obama people come back into government not necessarily as VP. Ben Rhodes, Susan Rice, Eric Holder, Sally Yates, and even though he wasn't Obama's guy, I'd LOVE to see Andrew McCabe brought back to government. We will need a Democratic Senate if you want to see these people confirmed , because McConnell will definitely try to stop Biden appointments to the cabinet. Never assume the Senate will be kinder to Joe. He was part of Obama's administration for 8 years and they shit all over him.

Susan Rice knows foreign affairs thoroughly. She is very close to Obama and Biden has worked with her. Her only real controversy was Libya and the fallout from explaining Benghazi. She's qualified; and Biden is not going to pick someone with shallow political skills and/or experience. Susan Rice would be a top consideration.
Eric Holder was Obama's AG for much of Obama's Presidency. However, he got in hot water for refusing to appear before Congress, including hostile Republicans, to explain the fiasco of the "fast and furious" operation involving the distribution of firearms to track criminal activity around the border. His moustache is not appealing, but he is articulate, well-educated, and experienced.
Biden needs to win. While he needs a running-mate that appeals to black voters, he also has to attract an appreciable number of working-class white voters in the rust belt and elsewhere in order to win. He can't make the HRC mistake in overly depending on black voters showing up in enough numbers on election day.
Pete's strength would be with highly educated and the more affluent Democrats, His intellect and campaign skills are excellent. However, his demographic appeal is limited and there is no certainty he would overcome that to a preferred level during further campaigning..
Amy Klobuchar is a good campaigner and debater, has an accomplished Senate record, but also initially, may not generate enthusiasm with back voters. She would help in parts of the midwest.
Liz will not be picked. She hasn't made an endorsement, while others have already jumped on the Biden train. She is beloved by a segment of the Democratic party; but is viewed as polarizing to others.
People know Biden is a senior age candidate that's not as mentally sharp as he once was. Finishing his first term may have health risks, and doing two full terms is not an easy vision. Thus, Biden needs a VP that is NOW well-prepared for the job, appeals to the overwhelming majority of Democrats, and there is high confidence he/she will work well with Biden and the Congress.

That’s not the demographic needed to win. It’s the moderate white working class, blue-collar, and rural voters who switched to Trump last time. Amy is the best candidate who can get these voters.

What’s obviously against Pete here is ethnicity and lack of relevant federal government experience. Gay is diversity but it’s not diverse enough. It’s not the diversity that counts. To invoke Senator Sanders, the “Democratic Party establishment” is not too keen on this perceived inexperience and outsider status. But then that just makes the noise for Stacey Abrams as VP seem even more like illogical pandering.
