I just listened to a Dax Shepard podcast with her. She is so pretentious she was intolerable. Hate her.
Also I start at the Equinox on Greenwich Avenue. She is really short and shaped like a pear.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 26, 2020 12:00 PM |
I was expecting to see her looking like shit, but she looks good in that photo. And I'm not particularly a fan of her overwrought acting (hated Homeland)
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 26, 2020 12:30 PM |
R4 Dax interviews the craziest women on the planet. It's like he goes out of his way to find nut jobs. Can you imagine Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin on a bad day together? Some TV show sets must be hell on Earth.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 26, 2020 12:32 PM |
On Armchair Expert Claire was acting grand lady, faux humble while throwing out as many five syllable words as she could come up with. She also claimed to have been offered Kate Winslet‘s role in Titanic. She said she didn’t regret turning it down, which must be total bullshit. Im sure she’s having nightmares about that career mistake to this day.

In a fecent Terry Gross interview she sounded like a rattled schizo on the verge of tears. I've never liked her in anything.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 26, 2020 12:49 PM |
R7 I don't know about that. I don't think she got along with Leo during Romeo + Juliet.

R9-You must have liked her in MY SO CALLED LIFE

Because Hugh Michael Horace Dancy has to drop a load into something.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 26, 2020 3:06 PM |
She's not a bad actress, but I don't find her likeable. On a superficial level, she has a man's jaw like Gisele. It's not helping.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 26, 2020 3:24 PM |
I like Danes just fine as a low-key actress & personality, and generally have no objection to her screenwork though it does little for me personally. I even think she photographs well at times.
However, as a fan of sci-fi and in particular the TERMINATOR movies I haven’t quite forgiven her for her take on Kate Brewster. She really was terrible in RISE OF THE MACHINES, delivering every line at the same fraught level with no variation and making the same shocked face in every frame. Don’t get me wrong, I like that the casting didn’t go with a Megan Fox type for the part; but going in the opposite direction was Danes the best choice? She somehow even had negative chemistry with Nick Stahl, too, but maybe that wasn’t her fault.
Claire Forlani gave a good audition for the role of Kate, and Cameron originally went with Sophia Bush over Danes for final cast. Cameron nixed Bush at the last second though, because he worried she was too immature and fresh-faced for the story & aesthetic of the movie.

She was like that on Fresh Air with Terry Gross.
I did smile when she used "fungible" in way that made it clear she had no idea what the word means.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 26, 2020 3:40 PM |
I was disappointed that Terry Gross didn't take her to task for tanking "My So Called Life" after one season.
Danes really screwed the rest of the cast and crew.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 26, 2020 3:41 PM |
She is so pretentious.
And when she said, "I'm friends with Lena Dunham" I was done.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 26, 2020 4:51 PM |
I find her very curiously sexless. There’s not a male lead I believe her opposite in a romantic or erotic part.
Is it that she can’t do it, or doesn’t want to?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 26, 2020 5:29 PM |
R18 I agree.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 26, 2020 5:42 PM |
r18, can't do what?
Some people just come across as chilly and remote. I find Nicole Kidman to be the same way.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 26, 2020 5:58 PM |
My So Called Life was a good show, although I tried to watch it again later and both Angela and her mother were irritating AF. I've never been able to stand Bess Armstrong. Such a fucking ham.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 26, 2020 6:11 PM |
I tried to watch Season 1 of Homeland, and got bored, mostly because of her. Hard to believe it is now on its 10th season. How?
And Terry must have been inwardly rolling her eyes at Clare during the FA interview last week.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 26, 2020 6:18 PM |
R20 apologies, I ought to have been clearer. I meant to ask; is the problem with her performances that she isn’t able to convincingly convey heterosexual desire, or that she isn’t *willing* to convey it? And in either case, why might that be?
To my recollection reviewers and certain IMDB users have said the same about her, as have posters here, so it isn’t just me picking nits. To be clear, this isn’t to say she’s a poor or useless actress; some performers have a body of fine work that is based on this very gimmick (cf. Tilda Swinton) or, as you say of Kidman, a quality that makes them distinct in the industry.
Danes would not hit up against this as a stumbling block if she had more apt roles.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 26, 2020 6:28 PM |
The only thing I've seen her in was Romeo + Juliet. I thought she was a wonderful Juliet, dramatic yet natural (which must be hard when working with Shakespearean dialogue), and absolutely gorgeous. Her face has become quite harsh though. OP's picture must be at least a decade old.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 26, 2020 6:44 PM |
Agreed R24, she was a wonderful Juliet.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 26, 2020 9:01 PM |
She seems really insufferable and full of herself. Although she is married to hottie Hugh Dancy, Will Graham from Hannibal, so she must have something going on...
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 26, 2020 9:06 PM |
Since we're on the topic of Claire, let's not forget her stealing Billy Crudup from Mary-Louise Parker when she was 7 months pregnant (and they had been together for 12 years.) Granted, Billy was a total asshole, but Claire is accountable too. She finally opened up about that situation and here is the gist of what she said: "I was in love and needed to explore that...I was 24. It's ok, I went through it." WOW what a self-absorbed cunt. YOU went through it?? What exactly did you go through? The world justifiably hating you for being a selfish home-wrecking little bitch?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 26, 2020 9:14 PM |
She lucked out in getting cast in My So-Called Life when young. While there's nothing special about her, she's perfect in the role and the show gaining a following later on cemented her to cult status. It also helped that she won the role in Romeo + Juliet a couple of years later, a movie that is iconic among girls and gays born between 1978-1984.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 26, 2020 9:18 PM |
Also, she would look better with a different hair color. That bright blonde makes her features look more harsh. A softer blonde, or even going darker, would work wonders.

R31 Like a Tracy Flick, except she's too cool and subversive to run for student body president. But just as full of herself.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 26, 2020 9:30 PM |
There's no way she regrets turning down Titanic. The writing and acting in some scenes is high-school play level amateurish.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 26, 2020 9:35 PM |
Artist spawn grew up in Soho then California - fancy schools, Lycée Francais and Yale. How do you expect her NOT to be pretentious. She doesn't have beauty, so. She has to cling to SOMETHING!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 26, 2020 9:45 PM |
Is her husband Dancy a closet mo?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 26, 2020 9:46 PM |
Grande Lady Danes certainly would not have entertained the vulgar and crass nudity in that trite ship film when she was a mere damsel of eighteen years old.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 26, 2020 10:21 PM |
I always liked her, starting with MSCL. Then she made me watch a movie with Leo in it, something that almost never happens. And then she went on to score some of the world's best—and my favorite—dick IRL. Just looking at Billy Crudup long enough makes my eyes roll back in my head, in a good way. Same with Hugh Dahncy.
I always figured she was blessed by some kind of heavenly power that eludes 99.9% of us. I find her quite beautiful, unlike some of you.
I do wonder what her actual hair color is, though.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 26, 2020 10:24 PM |
I think her natural hair color is the light brown in the first scene of MSCL before she dyes her hair Crimson Glow.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 26, 2020 10:43 PM |
She was always a mediocre actress. She can't even do voice acting. Anyone here see Princess Mononoke? Her voice acting was awful.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 26, 2020 11:16 PM |
Well I think she’s wonderful and said so on the Great Danes thread!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 26, 2020 11:20 PM |
I was on the set of Homeland a few months ago when they filmed a long hospital scene in Long Beach on a Sunday morning. There was about five minutes of dialogue with Claire and another actress, and Claire knew that shit inside and out. She was able to start from any word at any time for hours.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 26, 2020 11:21 PM |
She was wearing a wig in Romeo + Juliet. There's a behind the scenes video on the DVD where you can see what her own hair looked like at the time - a blonde bob. Not sure if the blonde was her natural color.
I always wondered why they gave her a wig. Maybe they thought longer hair was more suitable for Juliet, and/or they wanted a stronger contrast between her and Leo. A blonde boy and a brunette girls looks better on screen than two blondes. This might also have been the motivation for having Leo dye his hair a very light blond for that role (which I thought looked shit).
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 26, 2020 11:53 PM |
Her cry face was natural seeming when she was a kid and just ridiculous now that shes older. It still cracks me up how overhyped she was during her MSCL days but Jordan Catalano has an oscar and she doesnt. Nobody wouldve predicted that then especially since Jordan barely even talked.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 27, 2020 12:25 AM |
R14 holy shit at Sophia almost getting that role. She could have pulled it off.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 27, 2020 12:30 AM |
R35 Before they were married, there were lots of stories about Dancy. He seemed rather indiscriminate in his hook-ups and didn't care who knew. In person, she is taller and better looking than she appears on screen.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 27, 2020 12:32 AM |
Claire was raised by artsy, elite Manhattan intellectuals, and, despite her background, is not nearly as intelligent as she'd like you think she is. She's essentially the '90s version of Lena Dunham, except skinny and with no tits (and possibly more of a cunt).
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 27, 2020 12:38 AM |
I did like her when she played a killer on Law & Order as a teenager.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 27, 2020 12:44 AM |
There were about ten background actors playing hospital staff who had never heard of Claire Danes, and didn't know who this 40-year old actress was.

She told Terry Gross that she was made fun of in high school because she would always have her hand raised in class "me me me me me" because she would always know the answer.

She also told Terry Gross that her "good friend" Lena Dunham had been rejected by Claire's mum for her fabulous Manhattan kindergarten.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 27, 2020 5:57 PM |
After hearing the horrific childhood stories Lena likes to tell about her sister, I'm thinking that was prudent of Mrs. Danes.

Claire is my supercalifragilisticexpialidocious spirit animal--I adored the segments with Morena Baccarin, Damian Lewis (sweet little torso!) & the kids; Morena is so otherworldly, ("V") thought the family portrayal was perfect in Homeland's typical overwrought style . . . as an immigrant from Bethesda, I love all the scenes set in & around Washington, & the fact that I can miss long stretches & come back to another breakdown with Carrie & her latest guy, & especially Mandy's performances--I guess I feel familiar because my family had similar issues, & I got to be the crazy . . .

I'm surprised that Crudup went from Mary Louise Parker and Danes (who are both notorious cunts) to Naomi Watts, who is by all accounts a very nice person. He's over 50 now so he probably realized he's getting too old for those batshit cases.
