Kirk Douglas snubs Michael, leaves most of his $61 million fortune to charity

Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas proved to be a charitable guy — unless you’re his famous son.

The Hollywood icon, who died Feb. 5 at 103, left the bulk of his $61 million fortune to the Douglas Foundation — snubbing thespian son Michael Douglas, the Mirror reported Sunday.

Douglas, known for classic flicks like “Spartacus” and “Ace in the Hole,” left the bulk of his money to his charity, which benefits Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, The Kirk and Anne Douglas Childhood Center, and a St. Lawrence University scholarship for underprivileged students, among others.

It is unclear who gets the remaining money — about $10 million — but Douglas is survived by his second wife, Anne, and his three sons, Joel, Peter, and Michael, the Mirror said.

Not that his most famous offspring needs the cash — the “Wall Street” star is worth about $300 million in his own right, according to the Mirror.

And it was Michael Douglas — along with his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones — who praised his father’s charitable ways when he announced his death earlier in the month.

“Kirk’s life was well-lived, and he leaves a legacy in film that will endure for generations to come and a history as a renowned philanthropist who worked to aid the public and bring peace to the planet,” Michael Douglas said in a statement at the time.

But will Michael get the family dining room table?

by Anonymousreply 1February 23, 2020 7:05 PM

Michael Douglas is worth $300 million.

by Anonymousreply 2February 23, 2020 7:07 PM

“For reasons known well to him.”

by Anonymousreply 3February 23, 2020 7:10 PM

If Michael Douglas is worth $300 million, CZJ is 35.

by Anonymousreply 4February 23, 2020 7:11 PM

Good for him. Between Michael and CZJ, they have plenty of their own money.

by Anonymousreply 5February 23, 2020 7:16 PM

It wasn’t necessarily a snub. Michael clearly doesn’t need the money and it’s likely that it didn’t come as a surprise that Kirk left most of his (comparatively paltry) estate to charity.

by Anonymousreply 6February 23, 2020 7:21 PM

How is Kirk Douglass worth $61M?

by Anonymousreply 7February 23, 2020 7:22 PM

He could left this for his poor grandson . HE has suffered a lot

by Anonymousreply 8February 23, 2020 7:25 PM

He could left this for his poor grandson . HE has suffered a lot

by Anonymousreply 9February 23, 2020 7:25 PM

R7 He was worth way more then that. He's given away more then $100 million dollars away throughout his life.

I guess $61 is what was left. And what about his wife? What is she going to live on? And how is she holding up?

by Anonymousreply 10February 23, 2020 7:25 PM

$61 million.

by Anonymousreply 11February 23, 2020 7:26 PM

I am glad that I was born in a stable middle class family and not ultra rich fucked up family like this.

by Anonymousreply 12February 23, 2020 7:27 PM

He raped Natalie Wood.

by Anonymousreply 13February 23, 2020 7:30 PM

RIP natalie wood

by Anonymousreply 14February 23, 2020 7:33 PM

Did he start an "I Raped Natalie Wood Foundation"?

by Anonymousreply 15February 23, 2020 7:35 PM

He gave it to the family foundation, the board of trustees of which I’m reasonably certain is populated by family members and friends, and all of whom are able to be legally paid large sums for their tireless work.

While I not saying it’s the case here, family foundations are a common way of lessening the tax burden of large estates passing from one generation to the next.

Bingo R16

by Anonymousreply 17February 23, 2020 7:46 PM

Charitable donations, very nice, but still a rapist.

by Anonymousreply 18February 23, 2020 7:46 PM

If Michael is worth $300 million why is CZJ selling bathrobes on QVC these days? It can't be for fun.

by Anonymousreply 19February 23, 2020 8:08 PM

He should've donated it to a survivors of rape charity. Nasty old fuck.

by Anonymousreply 20February 23, 2020 8:10 PM

What in the actual fuck? CZJ, QVC, lighted spheres?

I agree - how is he worth $61 million at that age!! He hasn’t worked in decades - and had major health care expenses. Implies he had like $100 million net worth when he quit working p. That doesn’t sound right.

by Anonymousreply 22February 23, 2020 8:15 PM

I'm only 25. You would think that old tightwad Kirk could have left me a least a few million $$$$$ for plastic surgery in my old age.

Many old stars invested money into California real estate.

by Anonymousreply 24February 23, 2020 8:17 PM

Does Catherine talk to the hoi polloi who call in on QVC?

by Anonymousreply 25February 23, 2020 9:27 PM

R24 That's right.

Ask Ryan O'Neal

by Anonymousreply 26February 23, 2020 10:42 PM

I hope he at least set up a trust fund for CZJ. She'll need the money later this year when she finally comes of age.

by Anonymousreply 27February 23, 2020 10:50 PM

R27 You're so nice!

Does anybody else think CZJ is seriously fucked up in that QVC segment?

Not Liza level messy but she seems to be having trouble with forming sentences and making sense.

Booze? Medication(s)? And why is she doing this anyway?

by Anonymousreply 29February 24, 2020 12:58 AM

R29 She was diagnosed with being bipolar and was in a mental hospital a number of years ago and is on meds.

by Anonymousreply 30February 24, 2020 1:16 AM

I know about her breakdowns, her multiple hospitalizations and her bipolar diagnosis r30.

Psych drugs, when taken as prescribed, do not cause you to act like she is in that clip.

And again, why is she selling Chinese knick knacks on QVC?

Maybe Lana Woods' voodoo dolls are finally working.

by Anonymousreply 31February 24, 2020 1:37 AM

Is she no longer an A-List Movie Star any longer? What happened to her career?

What the fuck happened?

by Anonymousreply 32February 24, 2020 1:44 AM

R22 Kirk Douglas had a really long lucrative career in the Movies. And just like someone else said. A lot of golden age Movie Stars invested their fortune's really well.

Kirk owned a lot of real estate throughout his life and he collected art as well. All of that will maintain wealth. Doris Day was another one who didn't have to worry about money the last decades of her life. She to was well invested. Even owned a hotel at one point in Carmel California I believe.

If your smart with money, you'll always have it.

by Anonymousreply 33February 24, 2020 1:49 AM

Day had to declare bankruptcy and do a TV series ro bail herself out- Douglas managed his money well and his wife Ann will probably get almost all of it if she’s still alive- then it will go to his Foundation.

by Anonymousreply 34February 24, 2020 1:56 AM

R31 You are right about actual psych meds (SSRI'S, NSRIS, Tricyclics, but most patients with Bipolar 1 patients neuroleptics or antipsychotics are used more often and often in combination and that will kick you upside down your head to the point of being completely nonsensical.

She's just overmedicated which is the general state of psychiatry.

by Anonymousreply 35February 24, 2020 1:56 AM

R33 oh, dear. I worry for “your” future.

by Anonymousreply 36February 24, 2020 2:03 AM

R36 Don't worry, I do too.

by Anonymousreply 37February 24, 2020 2:17 AM

Don't forget, Doris also received a huge $22 million dollar settlement from a lawsuit, I believe in the 70s or 80s.

by Anonymousreply 38February 24, 2020 2:24 AM

R38 After her husband died, Doris Day also had her own TV show for 5 years which earned her millions of dollars and shortly after that a hugely successful memoir which gave her a financial windfall. Doris had no money problems and had lots of it in her Will when she passed away.

by Anonymousreply 39February 24, 2020 3:06 PM

R39 I haven't seen her will yet. How much did she have left?

by Anonymousreply 40February 24, 2020 4:32 PM

Strange that our resident Manny To The Stars didn't know that, R30. Why, it's almost as if he's making it up as he goes along.

by Anonymousreply 41February 24, 2020 4:35 PM

Oh r41 how I've missed you.

Did you miss my follow up post or did your support monkey hide your glasses again?

Your input is riveting as always.
