Seann Penn and Julia Roberts are Attorney General John Mitchell and his wife Martha, and Joel Edgerton is G. Gordon Liddy.

Go away Armie!

by Anonymousreply 1February 21, 2020 4:18 PM

"So-and-so IS so-and-so" always makes me laugh. I wonder what the very first one was.

by Anonymousreply 2February 21, 2020 4:20 PM

I don't recall Harriet Tubman being involved in Watergate.

by Anonymousreply 3February 21, 2020 4:45 PM

That's not bad casting for Martha Mitchell. She was a former beauty queen, lively personality, married to an iceberg like John Mitchell, very unhappy. Julia Roberts could pull that off pretty well.

by Anonymousreply 4February 21, 2020 10:05 PM

This man is as irrelevant as the baking soda. Both are stuck in the 1990s with their hair and plastic teeth. Lmao that he’s doing tv miniseries now.

by Anonymousreply 5February 21, 2020 10:20 PM

Limited series are the new black baby. Where have you been?

by Anonymousreply 6February 21, 2020 10:22 PM

R6 lmao it’s tv and not even picked up yet. He’s going to ruin whatever trash it is anyway. Look at his bug flick or that RBG tv crap. Haaaha

by Anonymousreply 7February 21, 2020 11:05 PM

Bombs away!!!

by Anonymousreply 8February 21, 2020 11:40 PM

Chrissy Metz can play the Watergate.

by Anonymousreply 9February 22, 2020 12:34 AM

Not a fan of Armie Hammer. I don't understand how someone can be 6'5" yet have no stage presence.

by Anonymousreply 10February 22, 2020 12:56 AM

Julia as The Mouth of the South.

Ain't it the truth!

by Anonymousreply 11February 22, 2020 12:58 AM

Excellent casting. Armie grows as an actor every year. Love the guy. He'll be around for a long time. Fuck the haters.

by Anonymousreply 12February 22, 2020 1:01 AM

[quote]Fuck the haters.

Hate Amie's acting but I'll hate fuck him anytime.

by Anonymousreply 13February 22, 2020 1:15 AM

Don't forget "Southern."

by Anonymousreply 14February 22, 2020 1:22 AM

R12 he can't act. This will suck like any project which features him.

by Anonymousreply 15February 22, 2020 5:04 AM

You know Julia Roberts is going to be absolutely intolerable in this.

by Anonymousreply 16February 22, 2020 7:11 AM

The boomers' stranglehold on Hollywood needs to end and end now.

by Anonymousreply 17February 22, 2020 7:33 AM

Yawwwwwwwn

by Anonymousreply 18February 22, 2020 7:45 AM

Julia has an atrocious southern accent. For some reason, actors from the South speak with awful accents when portraying southerners.

by Anonymousreply 19February 23, 2020 3:32 AM

Miss Julia Roberts will nail both Sean who she's previously had and devour Armie's hammer before this is all over.

by Anonymousreply 20March 14, 2020 2:28 AM

How tall is John Dean? Was Jeremy Strong not available?

by Anonymousreply 21March 14, 2020 2:38 AM

I can't see Julia Roberts as Martha Mitchell.

Sean Penn looks nothing like John Mitchell. Julia's acting will be her wig.

The real question is: Who will play Mo Dean?! (Never mind; undoubtedly Margot Robbie.)

by Anonymousreply 23March 14, 2020 2:41 AM

Does La Roberts really cheat on that crew member husband?

by Anonymousreply 24March 14, 2020 4:23 AM

I'm actually intrigued by this. Anyone know when it's being released?

by Anonymousreply 25March 14, 2020 4:46 AM

The podcast it's based on is actually quite good. But I totally expect Penn and Roberts to devour the material and play it to the furtherest balcony and seats in any home. The only saving grace is the creator who actually contained our Julia to some of her best work in Homecoming.

by Anonymousreply 26March 14, 2020 4:54 AM

Julia Roberts and Sean Penn. No thanks. Pass.

by Anonymousreply 27March 14, 2020 5:10 AM

R27 Roberts and Penn are both DL icons. You can't pass on all that pointless bitchery sure to ensue

by Anonymousreply 28March 14, 2020 5:15 AM

this will never be made

by Anonymousreply 29March 14, 2020 10:22 AM

Hasn’t he given up yet? He’s not even good enough for the second lead in a Lifetime TV movie.

by Anonymousreply 30March 16, 2020 3:35 PM

Shirley Maclaine wanted to play Martha for years.

by Anonymousreply 31March 16, 2020 3:48 PM

You mean Meryl Streep has not called her agent and DEMANDED to play Martha? I could see Jessica Chastain pulling this off. Or Melissa McCarthy.

by Anonymousreply 32March 16, 2020 3:59 PM

John Dean is a convicted felon. People are still trying to whitewash him to give him some credibility. It’s ridiculous to have Armie Hammer play him. It should be a character actor who plays villains.

by Anonymousreply 33March 16, 2020 4:07 PM

Armie Hammer IS a character actor who plays villains

by Anonymousreply 34March 16, 2020 4:09 PM

r34, exactly

by Anonymousreply 35March 16, 2020 4:15 PM

That hulk playing mousey little John Dean??? And Julia's already played one Southern big-mouth in "Charlie Wilson's War." Sean Penn as John Mitchell? No, just no. Terrible casting.

by Anonymousreply 36March 16, 2020 5:17 PM

Armie's problem is that his only real skill is being attractive, and yet despite that he refuses to take his clothes off for a movie or show. I think the only nudity he's ever done was that blurry three second long clip in CMBYN.

Rule #1 of Hollywood: you can't be pretty AND a prude if you want to have a successful career. If your only talent is looking good you better be prepared to show that ass off, or else you can enjoy doing Claritin commercials for the rest of your life.

by Anonymousreply 37March 16, 2020 5:29 PM

Terrible casting all around.

And yes, Roberts was known for fucking crew members on all of her shoots. That's how she met her husband, who was married to his first wife.

by Anonymousreply 38March 16, 2020 6:17 PM

So what, r33? So is Martha Stewart. At least Dean came over to the good side long ago.

by Anonymousreply 39March 16, 2020 11:17 PM

Meryl Streep was meant to play Martha years ago in "Dirty Tricks"

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 40March 16, 2020 11:22 PM

Martha Mitchell does not have a Wikipedia entry.

by Anonymousreply 41March 16, 2020 11:24 PM

Awful casting for Martha.

Michelle Williams could do it better than Julia. Hell, Busy Phillips could do it better than Julia.

The ultimate casting for Martha was Diane Ladd in 1995's Nixon. She had to drop out and Madeline Kahn took over (who was good but not spot-on).
