Both are Swedes. Both have thick accents. Who is telling them to fake their accents in public? Their agent? I think Bill Skarsgard does the same thing.
Joel Kinnaman and Alexander Skarsgard Put on Fake American Accents in Interviews

Um.... if they're using "fake American accents," then it means that they actually KNOW how to speak with an American accent. Therefore, it's not fake.

Bitch is fastidious. When Christian Bale speaks in his native Welsh accent, bitch would say why he just couldn't assimilate. When someone tries to speak in an American accent, bitch would say he tries too hard. Bitchy much?

R1 is a retard.

Alexander Skarsgard's natural Swedish accent is very sing-songy. It sounds like a parody of a Swedish accent. I don't blame him one bit for using an American one instead.

Miss Skarsgard is trying to escape her past.

Joel Kinnaman's accent is much better than Alex Skarsgard's. I imagine everyone who speaks a second language eventually strives to get as close to sounding like a native speaker as possible though.

R6, he only puts it on for American interviews. His accent is thick when he speaks English abroad.

Nicole Kidman used to do this. Singer Lea Salonga put on an English accent in British interviews.

Wikipedia says Joel is half American. Maybe that explains it for him.

Can't relate.

Did Portia de Rossi really lose her Australian accent?

Swedish IS a sing-songy language. It has pitch (tonal) stress in addition to the stress we use in English. It also has strong regional accents. So I'm sure Askars speaks his native tongue just fine.

Skarsgard admits to using an American accent in interviews.
