Fondly remembered by many on DL for her portrayal as housekeeper Marguerite on an episode of The Golden Girls.
That’s what she gets for putting a curse on my daughter.

She was a VERY convincing lesbian opposite Lonette McKee in that 1989 Oprah TV movie The Women of Brewster Place!

Her two costars are still with us. And both DL faves.

Here she is, explaining to James Earl Jones how she teaches young girls to dance. She was a marvelous woman.

Her parents Gene and Grace pre-deceased her.

She played the public defender on the first season of Night Court and was nominated for an Emmy.
She got fired anyway and was replaced by ... DL fave Shelley Hack. (Who was fired before completing an episode.)

She was an incredibly talented performer and a classy lady.
Rest in Peace, Miss Kelly

Damn...I loved Paula Kelly. Her scene-stealing character Leggy Peggy from "Uptown Saturday Night" reminds me of my mom! RIP.

Richard Moll was one of my celebrity partners when I was on $10,000 Pyramid, r15. I asked him why she had left. It took him aback and he really didn't give me an answer.

She was surprisingly butch in the clips I've seen. (I onlt knew her from "Sweet Charity," previously.) Was that late in life, 5 year marriage a lavender one?

A great talent for sure. RIP.

Kelly was on TV over a decade ago judging an LA high school talent contest with none other than DL fave Bonnie Franklin. Kelly was very good as a judge and was clearly delighted to see the talent on display.

Does anyone here remember the "Women of Brewster Place" mini-series back in the late 80s? Paula played a lesbian who was in a relationship, living across from a disapproving old lady neighbor. This scene where she threw the meatloaf ingredients at that old bat was glorious. It was also great to see a lesbian relationship respectfully portrayed in a televised production back in those days.

She was also in a short-lived sitcom with DL regulars Linda Lavin and Patricia Heston called Room for Two.
She deserved a far better career. Great screen presence and fantastic dancer.

I initially read the title as "Paul Kelly is dead to me", and I thought you meant the Australian singer.

Sweet Charity, particularly There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This”, will stay with me as a gay fever dream until I draw my last breath.
Paula Kelly:
“Hey, hey, me too - I wanna be... a hat check girl!”

She was absolutely fabulous in an episode of "Kojak" in which she played the girlfriend of an abusive mobster. Don't know if she was nominated for an Emmy for it but if she wasn't, she should have been.
