The Wild, Wild West kept me in a state of perpetual teenage tumescence.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 8, 2020 10:36 PM |
Damn. This little gayling really enjoyed Friday nights in the late 1960s with the Wild, Wild West thanks to Bobby Conrad, those tight blue pants, and his hot ass and inevitably shirtless torso. 😢
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 8, 2020 10:36 PM |
He was GORGEOUS!! And in that tight James West cool cowboy suit. OMG, What an ass he had. And he was in one of those Warner Bros TV series -- Hawaiian Eye with Connie Stevens. Meow bitches!!

His nice hairy chest drove me wild when I was an impressionable young boy. He was a shorty, though.

Beautiful body and I enjoyed the Wild, Wild, West a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 8, 2020 10:42 PM |
This gayling was mesmerized by the frequent sado-masochistic scenarios the WWW writers contrived for Bob--giving his best performances when he was trussed up or whipped, shirtless.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 8, 2020 10:43 PM |
Why did he need to have eight fucking kids?

I’ll never forget seeing him on The Merv Griffin Show with one of his young “proteges,” a blond twink whose name was Jeb, I think. He was the newest cast member of Bob’s new show Baa Baa Black Sheep and even to my 13 year old suburban mind it was clear he was fucking him.

by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 8, 2020 10:52 PM |
I was looking at some recent pics of him, and it seeing him as old was a little disturbing. He was so virile and athletic and in the pics he had gnarled hands, lots of age spots and senile purpura. Aging must have been difficult for him I would think.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 8, 2020 10:53 PM |
Just checked imdb, the title of the show was Black Sheep Squadron and the twink was Jeb Stuart Adams.

R29, Jeb is the son of Nick Adams and Carol Nugent, so if Jeb ever used the casting couch to land a part, he's a chip off the old block.

Handsomest man who ever lived. Amazing body. But so screwed up -- one of my (male) friends had an affair with him. Bobby liked to be fucked, and then liked to beat up his tricks. Or, if he couldn't, have them beat him up, Suffering Catholic guilt. Also was accused of beating one of his wives. So much wrong with him. But so beautiful.

Friend of mine had an affair with him years ago. At the time my friend did some part time acting which is how they met. Showed me a gift Conrad had given him. Nothing too spectacular, but a nice thought. He said the affair was short lived, due to my friend not being able to keep up with Conrad’s lifestyle. Said he was a nice guy and very handsome.

Met him a several years ago at a nostalgia convention and, though frail, he still had that rascally spirit and was super nice. Had some hot young woman beside him at his table as his assistant. I fist bumped him after he signed my WWW DVD box set and I picked one of his hot 8x10s for him to autograph. RIP Bobby.

One bit of gossip I’ll share about Mrs. Conrad, as it doesn’t share a confidence:
When when I first met her and she told me her husband’s name, she first hinted that she married a star. Then there was twenty questions. She resisted telling me but couldn’t not tell me. Finally she told me, and I’m like, “who’s that?” She completely deflated like a balloon. The same thing happened when I met Anne Beattie. That’s on me, not him or her, but funny still.

IN MY OPINION, his ass looked even better when he got older on "black sheep squadron" almost 10 years later and removed from "the wild wild west" show, he and his ass had gained "heft" and became bigger, beefier, manlier but still shapely! AND HIS CHARACTER wore khaki pants so so tight that you could even see his underwear panty lines! can you imagine how spray painted on his khaki pants made of thicker khaki material had to be to see his underwear panty lines! utterly incredible! how he could even move is beyond me!...
thankfully i have both season 1 and 2 of that show on dvd and i think in memory of conrad, i'll have "fun with myself" watching scenes tonight...

I managed to record all but a couple of episodes of Black Sheep Squadron years ago when it came on MeTV, and his ass really was still in top form on that show. I loved it when he'd wear those tight coveralls (somehow his coveralls managed to be a lot tighter than all the other actors' coveralls on the show, lol). He'd have them unzipped just enough to show some of his chest hair. I always imagine that he went commando underneath them.

"Conrad was born Conrad Robert Falk in Chicago, Illinois. His father, born Leonard Henry Falk (born November 3, 1918), was then 16 years old; Leonard was of German descent. His mother, Alice Jacqueline Hartman (born May 15, 1919, daughter of Conrad and Hazel Hartman), was 15 years old when she gave birth, and named her son after her own father. She became first publicity director of Mercury Records, where she was known as Jackie Smith. She married twice, including once to Chicago radio personality Eddie Hubbard in 1948. Eddie Hubbard and Jackie Smith reportedly had a child together (born circa 1949) before splitting up in 1958."

R106, "Palm Springs Weekend" was Warner Bros attempt to milk the most out of two cultural phenomenons: 1) the surprise success of the teen sex dramedy "Where the Boys Are" and 2) the inexplicable success of bland teen heartthrob Troy Donahue. PSW was basically WTBA transposed to the Coachella Valley, but unlike its predecessor, it was a bit of a dud at the box office.
Warner Bros, however, made millions out of their talent at bargain basement prices. They signed these poor unsuspecting saps to their television department, then gradually tested them in their movie productions. If they were a hit, they were put in more movies, making the studio beaucoup bucks, but they saw very little increase in their contracted salaries. If they could carry a tune, WB had them record music for their recording dept and made more money putting out singles.

i had a lovely whack last night watching on dvd a episode from season 2 of black sheep squadron where conrad's character's khaki pants were so spray painted on that you could easily make out his underwear "panty" lines! can you all fathom how tight those pants must have been for underwear panty lines to be seen as clear as day in the thick material of khaki pants! like airbrushed on! how could he even move! laugh!...
p.s. for those interested in gay erotic fiction on the website gaybondagefiction.com their are a number of wild wild west kinky stories featuring james west on that site, unfortunately it's a paid website, i believe 29.99 for 3 months?... and yes, some stories featured james west captured and "conquered" by the evil midget doctor on that show. among others..

He looked good into his sixties and had a bit of a silver fox thing going on when he stopped coloring his hair. The accident really aged him.
Wild Wild West had some interesting villains. While the Batman villains of the time were colorful and fun, some of the WWW villains - while still being over the top - had some layers and complexities. Agnes Moorehead did not win her Emmy for Bewitched by as a WWW guest villain. Not surprisingly, a few of them were a bit obsessed with Jim West's good looks and swagger. The show was a strange mixture of western, Man from Uncle, and Jules Verne, esp. the fist couple of seasons.

R134 you are correct. I'm thinking that Conrad himself was so taken aback by his own beauty that he eventually accepted what was fact. After seeing all the pictures and videos of him in this thread, I'm certain that he loved what he saw on the mirror. Not necessarily conceit but an acceptance of what is.
The man knew his worth and used it. Not anymore than someone getting compliments for their voice, then getting a career as a singer.
R124, Robert would have not expect any less from you. I hope you released a good one last night.

I just watched the Columbo episode "An Exercise in Fatality" tonight. (It's available to stream via IMDB TV for free.)
Conrad plays the Jack LaLanne-ish head of a chain of gyms. He bumps off one of his franchisees who is threatening to expose his fraud & other financial shenanigans.
It's pretty good. Clever use of an answering machine and shoestrings, and it really plays up the contrast between the schlubby Columbo and the buff Milo Janus (Conrad).
Added bonus: The swimming trunks scene takes up a good 15 minutes or so of the episode.

How did he find time for his gay trysts with all of those marriages and children?
by Anonymous | reply 242 | February 10, 2020 11:48 AM |
This is Robert Conrad and his first wife, Joan. Married in 1952 and divorced in 1977. A picture says a thousand words. By marrying this woman and fathering children with her, he did what was expected of him like so many other men, especially for the time. The man was far, far too beautiful to have not partaken in the delights of the flesh available to him in Hollywood. Did he play around with other men? Did he compartmentalize his sexual life? I would say that yes, he did.
by Anonymous | reply 243 | February 10, 2020 12:11 PM |
The reason some of us know he was gay is that he was having gay affairs with people we knew. That's pretty good evidence. My friend who had an affair with him said it lasted three months or so. They'd meet at a hotel on Catalina Island because Bob didn't trust going anyplace in Los Angeles (and most of his tricks didn't have places he trusted either) -- my friend would get there first, Bob would come an hour or so later, and they'd spend the day there, then Bob would leave first... etc...
I know several guys who claimed affairs with Bob -- some of whom may have been lying but this one friend, I knew what was going on since I was there then.

[quote] “The character I played was a dandy,” Mr. Conrad said in the oral history. “His clothes were too tight, for one. He rode this champion horse, this class horse. And he spent most of the series engaged in physical confrontations with bad guys.”
The fights, with Mr. Conrad often doing his own stunts, got a lot of attention. So did those tight clothes, especially the distinctive trousers.
“They put me on these elevated boots and shoes, which made me extremely uncomfortable,” Mr. Conrad said in an interview done for a mini-documentary made for a “Best of the Wild Wild West” marathon TNT broadcast in the 1990s, “and then they glued me into my pants, which made me even more uncomfortable, because they wanted the matador look.”
The dark-colored pants split so often, he said, that he took to wearing dark-colored underwear rather than white.
From his obit in "The New York Times" today.

conrad and ross martin were great best friends in real life, and conrad was there when ross had his fatal heart attack on the tennis court as they played.... traumatic no doubt for conrad....
in regards to earlier posts, i have to take issue with conrad acting like he was this poor lowly without power actor who the producers and wardrobe people FORCED him to wear spray painted on pants in the wild wild west and he couldn't object! i mean was this the same case with "black sheep squadron"? or the 1 season before cancelled 1980 show "a man called sloane" where conrad continued to wear spray painted on pants if anything even MORE tighter and airbrushed on that what he wore in wild wild west!? me thinks doth protests too much in this regard!..

He showed skin from the time he first came to Hollywood in the 50s and appeared shirtless on a record cover. He knew he was hot/sexy as can be and he delighted in his power to turn on both genders. Like all before him and since, he did what was necessary to advance himself. His ass was his best asset, and you can be sure he used it to full advantage on screen and off.

by Anonymous | reply 254 | February 10, 2020 10:52 PM |
I did a little digging, 'cause that's just what I do, baby.....
Anyway, Conrad actually married his first wife a few weeks shy of his 17th birthday and it was NOT a shotgun wedding as his firstborn, a daughter, didn't arrive until 12/31/52 - so he married his first wife on his own. I found interesting another factoid - his father was only 16 and his mother was only 15 when he was born - married. Furthermore, Conrad left home at the age of 15, himself, to start his life. Fascinating!

Bobby C liked young blond men, just like Jeb Adams, actually.
Another odd fact about him R255 -- some credible sources refer to his birth last name as Falk. Others say Falkowski.
ABC: "He was born Konrad Robert Falkowski in Chicago on March 1, 1935. His great-grandfather had emigrated from Germany, and his grandfather founded several meat shops in Chicago called Hartman's."
NY TIMES: "Mr. Conrad was born Conrad Robert Falk on March 1, 1935, on the South Side of Chicago to teenage parents. His father, Leonard Falk, later was superintendent at a New Jersey plant that made chocolate flavoring. His mother, Jacqueline Hartman, later became a publicist under the name Jacqueline Hubbard."

Conrad spent most of the film "Murph the Surf" in red swim trunks, shirtless, and showed a bit of side ass in a pan shot where he's making out with a gal in a cabana. He also (it seems) intentionally showed a bit of butt crack in one quick shot where he gets up from a beach chair. Neither of these shots are screencapped in this linked blog's collection, but it's close.

The Deadline obituary linked to in the OP says, "Conrad is survived by 18 grandchildren and eight children, shared with ex-wives LaVelda Fann and Joan Kenlay."
But when he was running for SAG president in 2005, TV Week did a sit-down interview with him and within it states, "His career has made him wealthy. He could stay retired in his longtime home in Bear Valley and enjoy life with his wife of 22 years, LaVelda, nine children (from two marriages and an early relationship) and 20 grandchildren."
So when did he father this 9th kid from "an early relationship"? .. Before he even married the first wife at age 16? .. Or some early-on extra-marital affair? .. If the former, then he sure started young!

R270.. i remember that tv show "high mountain rangers' he did with his son.. i remember the tall blond son who was hot, like father, like son, would wear extremely snug pants! awesome!
as i stated earlier he also did that 1 season of "a man called sloane" where he also wore his spray painted on pants as a super agent.. one episode in one scene i remember his character needed help from a obvious "flamboyant" man on a computer and his character tells the computer guy something along the lines of "if you get this information, i'll kiss you" and the flamboyant (okay gay) computer character grins widely and gets to work on the computer!!...
another episode had conrad's character at the private lair of a evil villainess played by actress edie adams, surrounded by a bevy of muscle men strutting around, pumping iron, a couple of them wrestling each other as she lounged around her pool waiting for conrad's agent character to show up. anyway conrad's character sloane shows up, starts taking them all on, until he is "sucker punched" by one of the handsome muscle goons and knocked out with this 1 punch, in particular the one who sucker punched him being the one and only MARTIN KOVE! (love him in his prime!)... later, his character is tied up on a bed, shirtless (of course!) arms over head tied to the bedposts and a poisonous spider crawling on him... great episode!...

From the 1988 People Magazine article/interview when he was out promoting High Mountain Rangers ... describing how he met his second wife.
[quote] (They) met in 1978, when she was a 17-year-old Miss National Teenager and he had flown to Atlanta to emcee the pageant at which she was passing on her crown. “I asked her on the air when she would be 18,” says Conrad, who was 43 at the time and still married. “She said in a week, and I said, ‘Call me in a week.’ She didn’t, but I called her. That wasn’t robbing the cradle, it was grand theft.”

Because the stunts were so difficult, and RC was so difficult, the show ended up using the same group of stunt men over and over, both as the bad guys and the good guys, whenever they were needed. Dick Cangey wrote a book about working with Bob. It's terribly written but kind of interesting as a source of WWW gossip.

I think Contad would have made a better "Derek Flint" in the American "Flint" films. .. Personally, I found James Coburn kinda homely and didn't see the attraction. .. But I guess that would have been impossible, as Conrad was already doing WWW when the first one, "Our Man Flint", was produced.

Conrad was too short to play Bond, a role that should only go to British actors anyway. Also, while he was manly, sexy and cocky, he did not have the smooth sophistication that Bond has.
Not every hot actor is suitable to play Bond.

R326 . In the People magazine article at R297 (when Conrad was out promoting "High Mountain Rangers,") they talk about his kids, saying:
[quote] Their father has always been enlightened about sexual equality, his kids say. Well, sort of. “The boys were taught how to iron and sew, and I remember Dad taking me to work out at Gold’s Gym,” says Joan. But, probably because they came first, only the girls were spanked. “We’d run to the bathroom and look at the handprints on our bottoms,” remembers Nancy. “Maybe Joan and I wore him down.”
[quote] Himself the product of a working-class Chicago home, Conrad was a strict parent. He sent the girls to Catholic schools, allowed them no dating before the age of 16 and expected spotless rooms. But he was delighted when his children showed an interest in show business. Although neither Joan, the practical one, nor Nancy, the sweet-natured free spirit, were inclined toward acting, Shane and Christian loved it from the start. “I was raised on the set of Wild, Wild West,” says Chris. “I got to play all these fantasies on the backlots of studios.” Shane’s fantasyland was the Black Sheep Squadron set, a short-lived series Bob starred in from 1976-78.
by Anonymous | reply 328 | February 12, 2020 11:34 PM |
I'm enlightened. I taught my boys how to bottom from an early age
by Anonymous | reply 329 | February 12, 2020 11:57 PM |
LOL! R329 I think that's actually hinted at in the "People" article.
[quote] Conrad thinks his offspring have turned out well—so well, in fact, that he likes to have them around when he works. Last year, when he pitched his idea about a series featuring mountain search-and-rescue workers to CBS, he pitched his kids too. “I wanted a family-oriented show with shmaltz,” he says. “I’d used my children in other films. It’s fun to work with family.”
[quote] The network wasn’t so sure. Christian had done only two TV movies with his father, and incipient teen heartthrob Shane’s previous acting experience was just as limited. Joan had already produced six TV movies, however, and Conrad ultimately got his way. High Mountain Rangers, starring Bob as a reclusive mountain man and Shane and Chris as his strapping, spandex-clad sons (“Tight pants worked for me, why not for my kids?” reasons Bob), debuted in January. It has been holding its own in the ratings—though just barely—since.
Later, the writer notes that TV critics have generally "scorned scorned the show, calling it 'Chippendales on Ice,' or worse."

He was up for the role of Maj. Anthony Nelson in "I Dream of Jeannie." On that, he once said:
[quote] I turned that down because I would take second billing to her. She was going to get star billing and I thought, "I think I’m at a time in my career where I OUGHT TO BE ON TOP. So I passed on that."
by Anonymous | reply 332 | February 13, 2020 1:43 AM |
It's amazing how many gays who watched WWW as kids count the show as "the moment they knew". Conrad just made you feel something "different". A few other actors did too (Tony Dow, Brian "Flipper" Kelly), but nothing like RC.

R336 This promotional photo for "Baa Baa Black Sheep" features daughter, Nancy. I think he got at least four of the older kids involved in the biz somehow. Sons, Christian and Shane, are mentioned up above. The other daughter, Joan, was a director for "High Mountain Rangers" and was listed as an executive producer for his follow-up series, "Jesse Hawkes."

Speaking of his kids ... Remember when one his younger daughters from his second marriage had a custody battle with her ex-boyfriend over their dog?
In her court document, she sai the ex- was doing it retaliation for him not being able to perform in the bedroom, saying he “was unable to achieve and maintain an erection, so they "were only intimate about four times per year for three years.” .. She also said that he refused to engage “in alternative forms of intimacy, such as deep kissing or oral sex.”
