Gayle King "Embarrassed very angry" at CBS Over Clip About Kobe Bryant Rape Case.

"I am mortified. I am embarrassed and I am very angry."

That's Gayle King going NUCLEAR on her own network, CBS, for releasing an interview clip with Kobe Bryant's good friend, Lisa Leslie, in which King asks about Kobe's rape case ... claiming CBS simply did her dirty.

Here's the deal ... earlier this week, CBS released a teaser clip from King's big interview with the WNBA star in which she asks if Bryant's legacy is "complicated" because of the 2003 sexual assault case.

King received a TON of backlash online from people who claim the question was insensitive and inappropriate -- including 50 Cent and Vivica A. Fox.

In a video she made Thursday morning, Gayle admitted she's been reading the tidal wave of negative comments on social media and it's been driving her crazy!

"I know that if I had only seen the clip that you saw, I’d be extremely angry with me too,” King said.

She continued, "I am mortified. I am embarrassed and I am very angry."

"Unbeknownst to me, my network put up a clip from a very wide-ranging interview -- totally taken out of context -- and when you see it that way, it’s very jarring. It’s jarring to me. I didn’t even know anything about it."

King says the sexual assault question was only a small part of a larger conversation about Kobe's life ... and she felt it WAS appropriate to ask that question at the time.

"We talked about that court case because that court case has also come up. And, I wanted to get Lisa’s take on it as a friend who knew him well, what she thought, where that should stand."

"It was very powerful when she looked me in the eye, as a member of the media, to say, 'It’s time for the media to leave it alone and to back off.'"

"I felt really good about the interview ... so, for the network to take the most salacious part when taken out of context, and put it up for people who didn’t see the whole interview, is very upsetting to me and that’s something I’m going to have to deal with them."

"There will be a very intense discussion about that."

Let me kiss your pussy to make it better, Gaygay!

by Anonymousreply 1February 6, 2020 4:49 PM

Gayle King is stupid. We cant just forget everyone anyone does wrong just because they died. Especially if we don't know if the victim wants to be forgotten. She said she doesn't want to talk now but that doesn't mean she won't talk in the future.

by Anonymousreply 2February 6, 2020 4:52 PM

Gayle and Oprah have been getting their asses handed to them by the black community over the last few months due to Oprah targeting only black men and not white men.

They both need to own their cozy relationship with Weinstein and stop going after everyone else as a a deflection tactic.

by Anonymousreply 3February 6, 2020 6:40 PM

If she didn't want this to be posted online she should never have asked the question. How long has she been in this business? She didn't mind it when she had the R.Kelly clip played over and over again out of context.

by Anonymousreply 4February 6, 2020 7:15 PM

KOBE BRYANT WAS A RAPIST. His creepy apologists can FUCK. OFF.

by Anonymousreply 5February 6, 2020 7:19 PM

Is she the official interview or for Lana Wood now?

by Anonymousreply 6February 6, 2020 7:21 PM

Why is she embarrassed? This is a form of censorship. It’s equivalent to politicians saying shit like: we understand that this young man walked into his school, and killed 20 of his classmates with a weapon used in war, however, now is NOT the time to discuss gun control.

Well, does the time to discuss gun control become easier before, or after the next shooting?

Kobe Bryant was accused of rape. I haven’t proof he did it, or did not. But accused, he was. And if that is part of his legacy, then the person who reports it as part of his legacy, is not responsible for it being a part of his legacy!!!

The moment we start canonizing people in the public eye, due to their untimely demise, is when we engage in narrowing our freedoms even more.

I do not watch Gayle King. But Gayle has every right to discuss the allegations within the context of a previously taped interview. If CBS used those clips, then she also has zero control over that, because she doesn’t own those clips, unless she stipulated something in a contract, that requires her consent, which depending on the format, I highly doubt, but not impossible.

Everyone and their mother knows Kobe was accused of rape. It was on the news daily, when it was unfolding, and lynching a black media personality over something hundreds of white and black journalists reported upon daily do regularly back when it was current news, is complete bullshit, and not the kind of America our Constitution defines for us.

Fuck that.

by Anonymousreply 7February 6, 2020 7:39 PM

I think her lashing out at the network is a huge mistake. Amy Robach sucked it up like a Hoover vac when they screwed her over about Epstein and it was way worse than this infraction.

by Anonymousreply 8February 6, 2020 7:53 PM

Oh well then again maybe not.

Shut up Gayle. Kobe is a rapist.

by Anonymousreply 10February 6, 2020 8:09 PM

GAYLE KING is a moron.. i remember when the topic of scientology came up and they had the director of "going clear, the prison of belief" documentary as well as mike rinder, former top official of the cult who has left it years and years ago and along with leah remini one of the most outspoken persons against it who co-starred with remini in her A & E docuseries "scientology, the aftermath"....

that after both spoke against scientology and why they are doing what they are doing by spreading the word about this evil organization, ALL gayle king could say and comment on was "well, but their still around!"... WTF is the point of that comment! well, there's alot of evil that is still around in the world, does that mean "oh well"... WHAT A ASININE COMMENT ON HER PART!...

if she wasn't ole oprah's best buddy, where would she actually be (and qualified to be) in her media career???

by Anonymousreply 11February 6, 2020 8:15 PM

I can't stand her, she comes across as a bully.

by Anonymousreply 12February 6, 2020 8:24 PM

She needs to get off her low horse and get back to O's cooter for some Southern Comfort.

by Anonymousreply 13February 6, 2020 8:25 PM

I rarely watch the CBS morning show anymore. Mostly because I wake up late, but the upside is no longer having to endure Gayle King. She passes off her daily screwups as part of her fun off the cuff persona but then will claim serious journalism when convenient. I remember at least once per show, she would mispronounce names, not have a clue what she's talking about, etc and laugh it off.

One that I remember vividly was an interview with Eddie Izzard. Not a minute after he said he was interested in running for Parliament, King asked him if he would go into politics in the future. He looked at her and pointed out he had just mentioned parliament. And King looked down and shuffled some papers, while the other CBS folks jumped in with comments. Didn't laugh that one off.

by Anonymousreply 14February 6, 2020 8:26 PM

I don't see why they're so pissed. She had every right to ask about it because he was accused and that is a part of his life and legacy whether people like it or not. When people die, their bad deeds just aren't magically erased. The effects of those deeds live on, particularly in the minds of those they've hurt.

As for people trying to turn it into a race thing, people like Bill Cosby, R. Kelly, O.J. Simpson, and Michael Jackson are the ones who make the black community look bad by raping, molesting, murdering, etc. Don't blame people like Gayle and Oprah for the things those guys do. It is their own fault.

by Anonymousreply 15February 6, 2020 8:26 PM

Bill Cosby chimes in, saying:

[quote]Snoop - when they brought me to my gated community and placed me inside of my penthouse, they didn’t win nor did they silence me. It’s so sad and disappointing that successful Black Women are being used to tarnish the image and legacy of successful Black Men, even in death. Are these people that in need of fame, ratings and/or money? On behalf of myself, Camille and my family, thank you, thank you and thank you. My heartfelt prayers are with Kobe and his family, as well as with Michael Jackson and his family. May their legacies live on forever.

Double standards as usual.

by Anonymousreply 17February 7, 2020 12:32 AM

[quote]As for people trying to turn it into a race thing

I don't think they don't have to try. Oprah and Gayle are doing it all by themselves.

The Russell Simmons doc was supposed to be about Harvey Weinstein until Oprah stepped in and then it changed focus. All of these big gets they have gotten have been with black entertainers. Yet you have Weinstein's trial and not a single word from either of them.

Let's wait until Gayle or Oprah gets their besties Megan and Harry for an interview. You'll think they'll bring up Prince Andrew? Me thinks not.

The black community isn't buying what they're selling. And maybe they need to step down from this kind of work, since neither seems to have their own hands clean.

R18, I lost respect for Oprah after hearing what she did to Mo'Nique. Mo'Nique was molested by her older brother for years. Oprah was going to have him on the show to tell his side of the story and asked if Mo'Nique wanted to be on there with him, but she turned it down, said she wanted nothing to do with him, but didn't mind her having him on the show anyway. Then Oprah got both of Mo'Nique's parents (who Mo'Nique isn't on speaking terms with) on the show behind her back so they could pretty much back him up and support him. Mo'Nique said she never would've agreed to it had she known the parents would be on there with him.

by Anonymousreply 19February 7, 2020 12:57 AM

Monique is having a wet dream right now about all of this fuss.

by Anonymousreply 20February 7, 2020 1:15 AM

No close up pics. Jesus.

by Anonymousreply 21February 7, 2020 2:51 AM

She asked the question. If she is mad at anyone she should look in the mirror and scream at herself

she really needs to shut the fuck up. no one gives a shit about her. They are only nice to gayle because of Oprah

Gayle really hangs out with a lot of super rich rapists. I don't know anyone, much less am friends with anyone who was ever been brought up on rape charges. Or even been accused of rape. gayle needs to get a better class of friends

by Anonymousreply 22February 7, 2020 2:56 AM

She really stepped in it and now wants CBS to take the blame for her stupidity. What did she expect that lady to say about the charges, oh yes I agree with them! Of course she would deflect the question. It was a ridiculous thing for her to ask his grieving friend in the first place.

by Anonymousreply 23February 7, 2020 3:09 AM

Thanks (?!) to Oprah we have to put up with Gayle King for a long time. Like Babs Walters she is very overrated and somewhat talent free.

by Anonymousreply 24February 7, 2020 3:16 AM

The morning “news” shows will do anything for ratings. Why doesn’t Gayle know that?

“I’m shocked!!!!”

Either she’s incredibly stupid or she’s a liar.

by Anonymousreply 25February 7, 2020 3:20 AM

I cant recall, not even one time, anyone in my life EVER bringing up Gayle King . No one knows or cares about her .Shes trying to stir up a scandal when there isnt one. Who cares ?

by Anonymousreply 26February 7, 2020 3:38 AM

Snoop Dogg threatened her. I'd be scared if I were her. Didn't he kill someone once?

by Anonymousreply 27February 7, 2020 3:40 AM

Wig priorities, Gayle

I've posted my thoughts about Kobe and the rape incident in the last weeks. I've been called a woman hater and all kinds of shit for saying that woman wanted to have sex with Kobe, but didn't know he was a roughneck.

But Im team Gayle here. She is doing her job as a journalist and she shouldn't have to back-peddle. This reminds me of Robin Roberts getting roasted last year for interviewing Jussie Smollett. Robin was doing her fucking job by interviewing his bitch ass. Just because she sat down to ask him questions doesn't mean she was buying what he was selling. People are so weak minded these days. Just because you see these media personalities smiling on TV every morning does not mean they're only going to ask the nice questions you think they should ask.

by Anonymousreply 30February 7, 2020 4:01 AM

For me it's not just the rape but Kobe was known to be an asshole during his b ball years. I'm all for praising his excellence on the court but this bullshit making him sound like he was some saint is too fucking much.

by Anonymousreply 33February 7, 2020 6:00 AM

well she was just a news reader, probably still is today, the title of morning anchor sounds nice though

by Anonymousreply 34February 7, 2020 6:27 AM

[quote]Mo'Nique was molested by her older brother for years. Oprah was going to have him on the show to tell his side of the story

What the fuck? How do you even come up with an idea like that, unless you're very specifically trying to hurt Mo'Nique, and other victims of abuse while you're at it?

by Anonymousreply 35February 7, 2020 8:29 AM

No, no, you guys, Gayley-Whaley is SERIOUS, and a woman of integrity! You just watch, she's gonna protest by walking away from that sweet CBS gig any ol' time now, HAH-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

by Anonymousreply 36February 7, 2020 9:47 AM

Shouldn't be on vacation with Oprah somewhere?

by Anonymousreply 37February 7, 2020 11:16 AM

I can't believe Gayle was shocked that they used that salacious segment in the promo clip. How long has she been in this business? Grow up! Everything is fair game in this business. You did this to yourself.

by Anonymousreply 38February 7, 2020 2:39 PM

Gayle King is a journalist like Pia Zadora is an actress......

by Anonymousreply 39February 7, 2020 3:26 PM

Since when is Gayle Fucking King the arbiter of Kobe Bryant’s legacy, and the keeper of his flame?

Let’s talk some real shit. And someone who knows, can help me out or back me up.

Does Harvey Weinstein or a partnership in which Harvey’s money is heavily invested, own significant shares in CBS holdings, or any media outlet in which Gayle King seeks a professional, long standing career? Has Harvey heavily invested in HARPO?

Weinstein’s MONEY. And he may be out of sight, but do not be fooled by assuming he is out of pockets, wallets, and ledger sheets, because that would be a big mistake.

Weinstein is a miserable ogre, who is also a BRILLIANT businessman, and he, just like the dude who has unseated him (Brad Pitt-in case you’re not paying attention and actually wondering who that is), follow the money, and do so together, when necessary.

Any fucker that wants to come here and challenge me on Pitt, btw, claiming he’s dull as rusty tack, and what not, can go fuck themselves, because stupid is the last thing he is. A former alcoholic and addict? Yep. That, however, doesn’t make people dumb, just like being a rapist doesn’t make people bad athletes, or poor producers.

Anyhow, Weinstein’s protection has always been based on money. He poured his money and his companies’ monies, into EVERYTHING. It is simplistic as fuck, to actually believe that people protected Harvey because he was Harvey. People protected Harvey, because Harvey stuck his cash in every orifice that mattered.

Gayle can go for Kobe. But she needs to be transparent about why she doesn’t go for Harvey. She won’t, however, because: money.

Snoop, 50, et.al.: you put your money in, and you too, get to call some shots. This is how it works, and if you don’t think so, then you would be WRONG.

by Anonymousreply 40February 7, 2020 3:36 PM

The truth is always "insensitive and inappropriate." Here in the US we want thing neat and pretty but lord forbid someone mentions something bad......

by Anonymousreply 41February 7, 2020 3:37 PM

exactly r41. Kobe's untimely death is a devastating loss but that should not prevent someone like Gayle King asking real questions about his real life. She was in an appropriate setting to do so.

Its funny how everyone praised Gayle King for how well she handled R Kelly's interview, but a year later have turned on her. Like I said people are weak minded and fickle. If I was her I would be saying exactly that to all these dumb bitches out here, instead of saying CBS set her up.

by Anonymousreply 42February 7, 2020 4:20 PM

I didn't know anything about it - even though I said the words. Fuck off, Gail.

by Anonymousreply 43February 7, 2020 4:24 PM

Her snatch smells like old potato salad.

by Anonymousreply 44February 7, 2020 4:42 PM

r40 Why does Gayle have to go for Harvey? The man is going to trial, right now there is no need to go after him. Question, did ANY major news outlet go after him other than the New York Times?

Until it is revealed whether or not he will spend any time in prison I wouldn't recommend anyone saying anything about him. Remember Harvey had former Mossad agents on his payroll to harass actresses that wouldn't sleep with him.

by Anonymousreply 45February 7, 2020 4:42 PM

Oprah weighs in about her snatch, er uh her threats.

by Anonymousreply 46February 7, 2020 4:45 PM

42 she's right to call CBS out. They wanted to promote the interview and make sure people watched so they made the teaser clip sensational. But people are stupid cows and for many that is all they saw which is why Gayle is getting so much blow back. Within the context of the ENTIRE interview the questions are still hard hitting but buffered by the rest of the interview and therefore not as shocking.

CBS is a major outlet, they should have been smarter than that and it is a sad testimony to how far news rooms have fallen. News is shit these days, in a shambles. It's pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 47February 7, 2020 4:47 PM
