No, they weren't, but I think that Roy Cohn was infatuated with G. David Schine. I think Roy Cohn was obsessed with keeping his name in the newspaper and spending time with G. David Schine, so the McCarthy hearings were a way for Roy Cohn to achieve both of his obsessions. But since Roy Cohn himself raised homophobia so much, he was unable to be open about his own sexuality, so the best way he could keep G.David Schine nearby was to extend the hearings.
