I didn't know that Morgan Fairchild used to be an A-list celebrity

Here she is as the belle of the ball at the 1982 Oscars. I never knew she was that big of an actress. How did she go from A-list status in 1982 to being a D-list actress today?

It's interesting to see Jane Fonda and her husband Tom Hayden here, because Morgan started an affair with Tom right after this and stole him away from Jane.

Where is she, again?

by Anonymousreply 1January 31, 2020 5:51 PM

She was never A-List. No way in hell. Being in the audience at the Oscars doesn’t automatically make you A-List. She just fucked the right member of the Academy to get an invitation that night.

by Anonymousreply 2January 31, 2020 6:01 PM

Or she was someone’s plus one

by Anonymousreply 3January 31, 2020 6:13 PM

She was seat filling for Kramer's seat filling while he took a leak.

by Anonymousreply 4January 31, 2020 6:27 PM

I always thought Fairchild was a lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 5January 31, 2020 6:32 PM

She’s a looney conservative, isn’t she?

by Anonymousreply 6January 31, 2020 6:38 PM

Morgan Fairchild is very liberal. She was A-list in the 80s because she led pro-choice Hollywood political groups.

by Anonymousreply 7January 31, 2020 6:53 PM

She's a proud progressive and very politically involved.

by Anonymousreply 8January 31, 2020 7:00 PM

Fairchild could only dream of having the career heat that Daphne Zuniga enjoyed

by Anonymousreply 9January 31, 2020 7:10 PM

If I recall correctly she also helped raise a lot - I mean a lot of money with aids. She has a science background and was really passionate about understanding the epidemiology and how to find a cure.

by Anonymousreply 10January 31, 2020 7:12 PM

Her character on Falcon Crest was A List.

by Anonymousreply 11January 31, 2020 7:13 PM

That's nice to hear R8. Who's that lady in your photo?

by Anonymousreply 12January 31, 2020 7:14 PM

Must be that other washed up child actesss who is a looney - Susan Somebody who called herself Morgan Brittany

by Anonymousreply 13January 31, 2020 7:17 PM

I don't know if Morgan was ever A-list, but I always found her likable and easy to watch on screen. Seems like a good person, too.

by Anonymousreply 14January 31, 2020 7:19 PM

She was dating politician John Kerry for a hot minute.

by Anonymousreply 15January 31, 2020 7:23 PM

Yes, Morgan Brittany—Morgan Fairchild's co-star in the iconic TV movie [italic]The Initiation of Sarah[/italic]—is the Morgan who's a wingnut.

by Anonymousreply 16January 31, 2020 7:28 PM

She did that one crappy theatrical film The Seduction, hoping it would launch her into films around this time. It’s not unusual for up and coming actors, even though a lot of them don’t succeed, to appear at the Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 17January 31, 2020 7:29 PM

Can anyone identify the gorgeous actor she's seated next to at the Oscars? He looks very familiar, but I can recall his name.

by Anonymousreply 18January 31, 2020 7:33 PM

Is that Margot Kidder seated close to Barry Diller at the 2:33 mark?

by Anonymousreply 19January 31, 2020 7:35 PM

More than likely it was on NBC and she was on Flamingo Road at the time. Most networks will get their stars seats at award shows.

by Anonymousreply 20January 31, 2020 7:39 PM

Lol they need to get Bette to present again at the Oscars, but there’s no way she could top this in 1982.

by Anonymousreply 21January 31, 2020 7:41 PM

R5 She's bisexual leaning towards men. She is much brighter than her acting suggests.

by Anonymousreply 22January 31, 2020 7:42 PM

I really did love The Seduction. It was such wonderful trash. She didn't have much to do, but look beautiful and scared, but she did it well.

by Anonymousreply 23January 31, 2020 7:46 PM

I've always disliked her since I saw her in "The Initiation of Sarah" as a little kid. She was pure evil in that movie.

I miss all those cheesy occult movies from the 1970-80s.

by Anonymousreply 24January 31, 2020 7:54 PM

She used to come into my restaurant. Had no idea who she was. But she was lovely. that's all I got.

by Anonymousreply 25January 31, 2020 7:59 PM

She was never A list, she was a soap actress, first on daytime and then she rode the primetime soap opera boom of the late 70s/early 80s, first as the original Jenna Wade on Dallas (take that Priscilla Presley!) and then on other nighttime soaps Flamingo Road, Paper Dolls and her most famous one as Jordan on Falcon Crest

She went back to daytime soaps in the 90s with the lead in ABC Daytime's short lived The City and as recently as 2017 as Anjelica Deveraux on Days of Our Lives

by Anonymousreply 26January 31, 2020 8:02 PM

Fairchild also dated Detroit Tigers hunk (later Dodgers world series hero) Kirk Gibson for a hot minute.

by Anonymousreply 27January 31, 2020 8:05 PM

Didn't she state once that she rarely got dates, because men were too scared to approach her or thought she was already spoken for? I'd believe it. She was gorgeous in her prime.

by Anonymousreply 28January 31, 2020 8:10 PM

Loved her recurring character as Cybil's rival actress

Wonder why Joanna Pettit disappeared. She was attractive & a decent actress. I’m thinking maybe “the look” had changed. She had that late 60s Upper class faux hippie look - like the guests at Guy & Ro Woodhouse’s Under-60 party. Upper classes adopting cool hippy clothes & hair while remaining snobbishly above it all & would’ve held their noses in the Haight.

by Anonymousreply 30January 31, 2020 8:28 PM

Pettet

by Anonymousreply 31January 31, 2020 8:30 PM

Morgan was likeable and had that old fashioned Hollywood glamor on TOP of her prettiness. Yes her makeup was applied with heavy hand, and she was always Playboy-bunny-adjacent but there's no denying she had a glam impact overall. Also a good person.

by Anonymousreply 32January 31, 2020 8:57 PM

r30

I guess you haven't seen mention of Pettet in the Alan Bates threads...

Morgan Fairchild went from cavorting with A-listers at the Oscars to having orders barked at her by Anne Burrell on Worst Cooks in America: Celebrity Edition.

Hollywood can be a cruel place.

by Anonymousreply 39February 1, 2020 4:51 PM

R39 It’s one of the toughest businesses in the world. If you don’t have thick skin it destroys you. One day they’re on top, but the fall can happen overnight, and everyone abandons them once the fame and money dries up.

by Anonymousreply 40February 1, 2020 9:47 PM

r13 Morgan Brittany portrayed Vivien Leigh in one of my most-favorite guilty pleasure films, "The Scarlett O'Hara Wars." This piece of cinematic wonder should be enshrined in the DL "Hall of Fame and/or Infamy."

Did I mention Barrie Youngfellow is in it as Mrs. Alfred Steele, before she actually married the poor sod?

Would like to see an all-male version of it, so many delicious OTT roles, we'd be keening for months.

by Anonymousreply 41February 2, 2020 12:31 AM

R41: you forgot to mention Sharon Gless as Carole Lombard! My favourite scene was Tallulah Bankhead chain-smoking and coughing her way through her audition for David O Selznick (Tony Curtis).

by Anonymousreply 42February 2, 2020 1:22 AM

r42 Gless gave the finest performance as Lombard. Her scene with Carrie Nye as Tallulah, would have delighted the real Miss Bankhead. Only Edward Winter, as Gable, struck the wrong note.

by Anonymousreply 43February 2, 2020 2:14 AM

I'll need to watch this sometime. The movie sounds pretty good. And yes about Ed Winter, he had the whitest teeth is 80s Hollywood, nothing like Gables brown stained dentures.

by Anonymousreply 44February 2, 2020 2:22 AM
One day they’re on top, but the fall can happen overnight, and everyone abandons them once the fame and money dries up.

You’re not kidding. I’m watching Fast Times at Ridgemont High on tv and the scene with the goofy science teacher & his hot wife was just on. The wife was played by Lana Clarkson, a once promising actress who was reduced to going home with guys like Phil Spector. And dying,

by Anonymousreply 45February 2, 2020 5:45 AM

Joanna Pettet only took care of Alan Bennett for a few years before his death. Begore that, she had a history of bad to worse to none movies,

by Anonymousreply 46February 2, 2020 6:11 AM

Alan Bates, dear.

by Anonymousreply 47February 2, 2020 2:03 PM

I wrote Bates but looks like my iPad wasn’t having it

by Anonymousreply 48February 2, 2020 3:29 PM

The awards shows are so unfunny today compared to this.

by Anonymousreply 49February 2, 2020 3:38 PM

She was a presenter that night. She was obviously invited because of The Seduction which had been released only a few weeks prior. It was her attempt to catapult her into a movie star.

by Anonymousreply 50February 2, 2020 3:40 PM

Never A-list anything. She wasn't. Good try though.

by Anonymousreply 51February 2, 2020 3:41 PM

What is this thread even about? She was A list just because she was at the Oscars? I know no-list people who’ve gone multiple times.

by Anonymousreply 52February 2, 2020 3:43 PM

Has Colton been to the Oscars?

by Anonymousreply 53February 2, 2020 3:51 PM

Bette shows here how to properly roast Hollywood and celebrities without taking it too far. Ricky Gervais should take note.

by Anonymousreply 54February 2, 2020 4:11 PM

Ricky Gervais has hosted the Golden Globes how many times? Why would he take note?

by Anonymousreply 55February 2, 2020 4:12 PM

R52 true. The Oscars are always a mix of up and comers with some recognition under their belt, established A or B sometimes C, list and last years winners .

by Anonymousreply 56February 2, 2020 4:39 PM

R56, It's more than just her being at the Oscars. It's the way she's been given a prime seat reserved for A-listers, the way she turns around and laughs along with the crowd as if she is in total command of the room, and the way the camera is lovingly displaying her. These are all characteristics of an A-lister.

Notice how she is the more charismatic star over Meryl Streep, who looks like an unknown supporting player in the audience.

by Anonymousreply 57February 2, 2020 4:49 PM

R57 she was probably farther back in the audience than you can tell. A listers weren’t always in the front rows at the Oscars, but by 1982 they were. I don’t even recognize anyone famous in that clip near her when the camera is on her. Harry Hamlin was right behind Jane Fonda, when she got up to accept for her dad, so he got a good seat. I seriously doubt Fairchild was socializing with Beatty, Keaton, Nicholson, and Streep that night.

by Anonymousreply 58February 2, 2020 5:11 PM

The Seduction got a huge push by the studio. It was supposed to be the movie that was going to catapult Morgan into movies.

I have no idea how the movie fared at the box office, but it was nominated for quite a few Razzies the following year.

Considering that the movie opened in January of 1982 and the nominations were in February of 1983, it clearly must have had an impact somehow (albeit not very well). It might have been one of those movies that flopped at the box office but found an audience when it aired on cable.

by Anonymousreply 59February 2, 2020 6:12 PM

R57 I must be watching a different video. She doesn’t stand out more than anyone else they showed in the audience. In total command of the room? Charismatic? Really? I must have blinked and missed all of that.

by Anonymousreply 60February 2, 2020 6:23 PM

I always heard The Seduction did fairly well at the box office. Morgan once said that Bette Davis sent her a lovely letter about the film and her performance when she caught it on cable in the 80's. If it's good enough for Bette...

by Anonymousreply 61February 2, 2020 7:07 PM

R59 the Oscars that year were in March of 1982. I guess the Seduction opened to good enough box office for Morgan to get an invite.

by Anonymousreply 62February 2, 2020 7:43 PM

What was this all about?

Today is February 3-Morgan Fairchild's birthday. (It was online.) She's 70. Honest to god, I thought she was on the other half of 75.

by Anonymousreply 75February 3, 2020 11:19 AM

My girlfriend, Morgan Fairchild, has always been A-list.

by Anonymousreply 76February 3, 2020 1:10 PM

R18, it's kind of dark but I'm pretty sure that's Craig Denault. He was a cinematographer, not an actor, though. He worked on quite a few big films at that time and may have had an invite to the Oscars before Morgan did, if he was in the union, and I'd bet he was.

by Anonymousreply 77February 3, 2020 3:13 PM

R77, You're right. Sadly, he committed suicide in 1994. I wonder if he and Morgan were still together when he killed himself?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 78February 3, 2020 4:45 PM
In Los Angeles, on the evening of 15 April 1994, a heavily-intoxicated Denault crashed his vehicle into several parked cars. He then emerged from his car with a duffel bag and began swallowing a handful of pills. A police officer arrived on the scene and attempted to subdue Denault using pepper spray. Denault turned his back to the officer, dropped to his knees, and pulled out a gun from his duffel bag. Before the officer could react, Denault shot himself in the forehead, killing himself.

Mary!

by Anonymousreply 79February 3, 2020 4:55 PM

That's the craziest suicide I've ever heard. Yikes!

He looked so calm and happy at the Oscars with Morgan. Who could have ever guessed that he would die in such a crazy way just 12 years later. Life can be so strange.

by Anonymousreply 80February 3, 2020 5:04 PM

She wishes she still looked as good as the photo at R8.

She now looks like the Cabbage Patch version of herself.

by Anonymousreply 81February 3, 2020 5:06 PM

But R41, did you know that movie was part of a three part miniseries?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 82February 3, 2020 5:11 PM

I believe she and Denault had broken up by 1984 or so. Most of the photos of them together are from 1981-1983.

by Anonymousreply 83February 3, 2020 5:25 PM

I follow Morgan Fairchild on Twitter. She's my goddess.

by Anonymousreply 84February 3, 2020 6:39 PM

I'm rewatching 'Dallas' on Amazon Prime (via IMDB TV, so commercials). I've wondered for years why Morgan didn't stay on as Jenna Wade...her first ep as Jenna is fantastic. Then Priscilla swooped in a few years later and lazily (and seemingly without a hairbrush) played Jenna for nearly 150 eps...did Morgan just not want to settle being a supporting character? Jenna could've rivaled Sue Ellen and Pam (and even the bitchy Katherine Wentworth) for storylines, if written the right way. Instead, Morgan flitted from 'Flamingo Road' to 'Paper Dolls' to 'Falcon Crest'. Did she just bet her luck, hoping for a hit primetime soap to call her own?

Btw for the poster who mentioned Morgan's AIDS charity work, I've read several sources who cited her as one of the very first celebrities to join the fundraising cause. Dame Liz joined and then Morgan was made redundant, as Liz's star power overshadowed everyone else. Of course, Liz raised an awful lot of $$$, just based on her name and star power.

by Anonymousreply 85June 19, 2020 12:32 PM

They must have been letting D-Listers in that night- Shelley Smith is there too !
