Holy shit.

by Anonymousreply 4January 26, 2020 7:36 PM

Damn that was unexpected.

by Anonymousreply 5January 26, 2020 7:37 PM

It's not true until the Daily Mail reports it.

by Anonymousreply 6January 26, 2020 7:37 PM

Dibs on his stuff.

by Anonymousreply 7January 26, 2020 7:38 PM

Woooow

by Anonymousreply 8January 26, 2020 7:38 PM

Helicopter crash in Calabasas. Wife and kids not on board, but all five aboard dead.

Only TMZ reporting his name, but the LA Times confirmed the crash details.

by Anonymousreply 9January 26, 2020 7:38 PM

OK did ANYBODY have him in the 2020 death pool?

by Anonymousreply 10January 26, 2020 7:38 PM

Watch him be canonized and his rape completely forgotten.

At least he got to see LeBron overtake his scoring record last night.

by Anonymousreply 11January 26, 2020 7:39 PM

Lol. That was my first thought, R10.

by Anonymousreply 12January 26, 2020 7:40 PM

Kobe didn't rape anybody, asshole.

by Anonymousreply 13January 26, 2020 7:40 PM

What was on his ipod?

by Anonymousreply 14January 26, 2020 7:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 16January 26, 2020 7:41 PM

Holy Motherfucker

by Anonymousreply 17January 26, 2020 7:41 PM

ESPN radio not mentioning it so far.

by Anonymousreply 18January 26, 2020 7:42 PM

Well at least he didn't die doing what he loved (raping people).

by Anonymousreply 28January 26, 2020 7:48 PM

Has Susan Dey commented yet?

by Anonymousreply 29January 26, 2020 7:48 PM

The man who made the world safe for ass rapists.

by Anonymousreply 30January 26, 2020 7:49 PM

I'm feeling pretty lost and broken right now about this news. Poor Kobe. He was a great man!

by Anonymousreply 31January 26, 2020 7:50 PM

Calabasas?? Maybe some Kardashians were collateral damage??!!

by Anonymousreply 32January 26, 2020 7:50 PM

His Wiki page already has his date of death and that he “was a basketball player....”

by Anonymousreply 33January 26, 2020 7:50 PM

Holy fucking shit .. this is legit shocking

by Anonymousreply 34January 26, 2020 7:50 PM

[quote] I'm feeling pretty lost and broken right now.

by Anonymousreply 36January 26, 2020 7:51 PM

From Wiki:

Sexual assault allegation In the summer of 2003, the sheriff's office of Eagle, Colorado, arrested Bryant in connection with an investigation of a sexual assault complaint filed by a 19-year-old hotel employee. Bryant had checked into The Lodge and Spa at Cordillera in Eagle County in advance of undergoing knee surgery nearby. The accuser stated that Bryant raped her in his hotel room the night before Bryant was to have the procedure. Bryant admitted to an adulterous sexual encounter with his accuser but denied her sexual assault allegation.[400][401]

The accusation tarnished Bryant's reputation, and the public's perception of him plummeted; his endorsement contracts with McDonald's and Nutella were terminated. Sales for Bryant's replica jersey fell significantly from their previous highs.[402] However, in September 2004, the assault case was dropped by prosecutors after the accuser refused to testify at the trial. Afterward, Bryant agreed to apologize to her for the incident, including his public mea culpa: "Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter."[403][404] The accuser filed a separate civil lawsuit against Bryant, which the two sides settled privately.

by Anonymousreply 37January 26, 2020 7:52 PM

Wow 2020 has to be the most crazy year. Fucking crazy.

by Anonymousreply 38January 26, 2020 7:52 PM

KABC in Los Angeles has confirmed...Kobe Bryant has been killed in a helicopter crash.

by Anonymousreply 39January 26, 2020 7:52 PM

I am really sad. I know many of you DL people jerks but please pray or at least think of his family, colleagues and fans. He left behind a wife and four little girls. They must be devastated.

by Anonymousreply 40January 26, 2020 7:52 PM

R35 He was the guy who invented Kobe Beef

by Anonymousreply 41January 26, 2020 7:53 PM

It's interesting that the TMZ article and another article I found on this are now both (out of service) and can't be reached.

by Anonymousreply 42January 26, 2020 7:53 PM

R40 I think he has a newborn daughter. Pretty sad.

by Anonymousreply 43January 26, 2020 7:53 PM

Could you please stop bringing up the sexual assault. It’s over.

by Anonymousreply 44January 26, 2020 7:53 PM

[quote]He left behind a wife and four little girls.

by Anonymousreply 46January 26, 2020 7:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 55January 26, 2020 7:56 PM

Stfu R45. Who the fuck are you to judge anybody?

by Anonymousreply 56January 26, 2020 7:56 PM

Wow. I don't care about sports but it's still shocking.

by Anonymousreply 57January 26, 2020 7:56 PM

How sad. He was one of the most respectable intelligent players out there. Went to a local school too. A reminder : don’t waste time being miserable because you might die tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 58January 26, 2020 7:56 PM

Of course, just excuse sexual assault r44. You're an asshole and reason why people don't come forward.

Let's not canonize this RAPIST.

by Anonymousreply 59January 26, 2020 7:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 65January 26, 2020 7:58 PM

Well done OP. DL is on top of it! First reporting.

by Anonymousreply 66January 26, 2020 7:58 PM

Why are we feeling so bad for a multimillionaire rapist? He wasn't a hero. He was an amazing basketball player who was very flawed, like most people. That's all.

by Anonymousreply 67January 26, 2020 7:59 PM

Statistically, he was more likely to be murdered by another POC, than to die in a helicopter crash.

by Anonymousreply 68January 26, 2020 7:59 PM

Damn, he was on my prospect list.

by Anonymousreply 69January 26, 2020 8:00 PM

I guess he defied those odds, R68.

by Anonymousreply 70January 26, 2020 8:00 PM

by Anonymousreply 76January 26, 2020 8:02 PM

Good point, R72. I guess it would be people who ride in them all the time, as apparently he did. Was he the pilot or just a passenger? And how many people can a helicopter hold, anyway? Thought it was only 2.

by Anonymousreply 77January 26, 2020 8:02 PM

A famous black person always seems to die within a day of the Grammys. Whitney Houston, now this!

by Anonymousreply 78January 26, 2020 8:02 PM

ESPN Radio LA should stop using the term “passed away.” He was FUCKING KILLED. He’s dead.

by Anonymousreply 79January 26, 2020 8:02 PM

Don’t helicopters seem to crash A LOT?

by Anonymousreply 80January 26, 2020 8:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 82January 26, 2020 8:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 83January 26, 2020 8:04 PM

He can't rape anyone again. He's always been a smug fuck. I do feel bad for his kids. Didn't he have all daughters?

by Anonymousreply 84January 26, 2020 8:04 PM

Shit, this completely shocked me when I saw it.

Kobe is definitely one of the most famous athletes in history.

by Anonymousreply 85January 26, 2020 8:04 PM

CNN confirming Kobe is now dead at age 41.

by Anonymousreply 86January 26, 2020 8:04 PM

CNN reporting doing highlights of his life. I guess they had to inform his family first before releasing. Perhaps his wife found on TMZ who knows.

by Anonymousreply 87January 26, 2020 8:06 PM

by Anonymousreply 88January 26, 2020 8:07 PM

Datalounge sure beat MSNBC in reporting this. They JUST NOW confirmed it--all surprised! I'm like, yeah, uh-huh...

by Anonymousreply 89January 26, 2020 8:08 PM

His sexual assaults never happened again. That was a one time thing. Usually there's a pattern with criminal behavior.

Which leads me to believe it was a money grab on her part or the truth lies somewhere in the middle. She consented to sex but changed her mind and he was too busy in his own orgasm to notice.

by Anonymousreply 93January 26, 2020 8:09 PM

This is why real news is dead. No one wants to wait to read about it after it’s been verified, fact-checked, written well. We just want clickbait 2 sentence breaking news - and we couldn’t care less about accuracy. Sigh.

by Anonymousreply 94January 26, 2020 8:09 PM

That helicopter was meant for me. I know it. My in-laws want me out of the way.

by Anonymousreply 95January 26, 2020 8:09 PM

CNN has these tapes ready to go for celebrities, right? Maybe some light updating but they probably have a collection of celebrity death reels on hand that they can air asap.

by Anonymousreply 96January 26, 2020 8:09 PM

BBC now reporting it in UK.

by Anonymousreply 97January 26, 2020 8:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 98January 26, 2020 8:10 PM

Heartbreaking!!! Beyond sadness!!!!

by Anonymousreply 149January 26, 2020 8:23 PM

An ABC Network Correspondent reported that his four daughters were onboard, but as everyone pointed out if that's true and everyone onboard was killed then that means six fatalities, counting the pilot. If it's true I think it's three of his daughters and the newborn stayed at home with his wife.

Yashar Ali 🐘 @yashar

3. An on-air ABC News report has given people the impression that Kobe Bryant's daughters were on board the helicopter.

So far no one else has that reporting and that reporting isn't contained in ABC News digital story which I've linked in this tweet.

by Anonymousreply 154January 26, 2020 8:24 PM

The reports are saying that five people on board were killed. Was he a licensed helicopter pilot?

[quote] And how many people can a helicopter hold, anyway? Thought it was only 2.

You watched too much MASH.

Helicopters can be huge and hold a lot of pax.

by Anonymousreply 169January 26, 2020 8:27 PM

R112, you truly need Jesus. Today.

by Anonymousreply 170January 26, 2020 8:28 PM

So young.

by Anonymousreply 171January 26, 2020 8:28 PM

So wife is all that' s left. Wow.

by Anonymousreply 172January 26, 2020 8:28 PM

Why would you even ask such a weird questuon, R93?

by Anonymousreply 173January 26, 2020 8:28 PM

If Rick Fox really was aboard, we can at least feel bad for Vanessa Williams.

by Anonymousreply 174January 26, 2020 8:29 PM

So he was piloting the helicopter?

by Anonymousreply 175January 26, 2020 8:29 PM

I loved him in Space Jam. RIP

by Anonymousreply 176January 26, 2020 8:29 PM

R109 r165 already did it.

[quote]Was he a licensed helicopter pilot?

This never ends well.

by Anonymousreply 183January 26, 2020 8:31 PM

This is very sad. But I still think he raped that woman.

by Anonymousreply 184January 26, 2020 8:31 PM

I don't see why he would have had the newborn with him. But I really hope none of the daughters were onboard.

by Anonymousreply 185January 26, 2020 8:32 PM

Exactly, R183.

by Anonymousreply 191January 26, 2020 8:35 PM

Why couldn’t it of been Dump and his 4 kids? Why oh why?!?

by Anonymousreply 192January 26, 2020 8:35 PM

Y’all are erasing us.

by Anonymousreply 193January 26, 2020 8:35 PM

R189, shut up, bitch!

by Anonymousreply 194January 26, 2020 8:35 PM

Yes. He has his own Personal Helicopter and could fly. However, supposedly he had his own Pilot he would have fly him.

by Anonymousreply 195January 26, 2020 8:35 PM

What about his wife or ex wife Vanessa? Surely she wasn't in the crash. That's got to be devastating.

by Anonymousreply 196January 26, 2020 8:36 PM

I don't care about basketball and didn't particularly follow Kobe, but this death is chilling, I'm truly shaken. These helicopters, man - a must to avoid imho.

I'm in LA, and it's hard to think of a bigger LA icon. And it's such an LA death, helicopter crash in Calabasas. Of course there is huge coverage right now on the local channels. The TV hosts are genuinely upset, trembling voices that seem actually sincere for a change.

by Anonymousreply 197January 26, 2020 8:36 PM

People are always gossipy and irresponsible when things like this happen.

by Anonymousreply 198January 26, 2020 8:36 PM

DM Headline: Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, 41, is killed in Calabasas helicopter crash on hill behind Kourtney Kardashian's house along with four others onboard"

by Anonymousreply 199January 26, 2020 8:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 203January 26, 2020 8:37 PM

Remember, his wife has been with him since High School. Her entire adult life, Koby has been in her life. I honestly have no idea how someone begins to move on from the loss of their spouse of 20 years AND your children. Not enough money in the world to make that right.

by Anonymousreply 204January 26, 2020 8:37 PM

I grew up in LA. Still live here. Kobe is the best Laker of all time. I am a basketball junkie. Kobe was magical. He gave us five rings. I can't believe he's gone.

by Anonymousreply 216January 26, 2020 8:40 PM

I thought Koby lives in Newport so that's a lot of time saved via a chopper. That said, taking a helicopter everywhere is excessive as hell. But, helicopters have a lower accident rate than cars so in the end it's all a game of chance.

Hearing it was a Sikorsky sends chills. There was a devastating Newfoundland crash involving a Sikorsky chopper on March 12, 2009 that killed 17 of 18 people onboard. The lawsuit claimed almost $27-million for combined damages and losses from the crash. It says Sikorsky used a "flawed" analysis to claim its helicopter could run without oil in its main gearbox for 30 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 521January 26, 2020 9:57 PM

R509 have you seen Shaq on Inside the NBA? He can barely string two sentences together. He’s a big oaf but funny as hell. At least he and Kobe buried their ill will towards each other before Kobe died.

by Anonymousreply 522January 26, 2020 9:57 PM

Given many DLer's uneasy relationships with both sports and black people, many of these comments are no unexpected.

But enough of you are funny AF and get the whole gallows humor thing.

by Anonymousreply 523January 26, 2020 9:58 PM

R515, but let's be honest: Cosby was doing that shit 50 years ago and got away with it a lot longer.

[quote]Keep this same Kobe energy when trans women of color are killed for simply existing.

OMG, what a fucking asshole this person is as if any number of people aren't killed simply for existing. I doubt that trans gives a shit when they get killed.
