'Indebted' on NBC

Oh, Fran Drescher, love ya, but I don't know about this one. šŸ˜¬

by Anonymousreply 124June 22, 2020 4:25 PM

Yeah, no.

by Anonymousreply 1February 3, 2020 12:59 AM

Strong cast - it could hit.

by Anonymousreply 2February 3, 2020 1:20 AM

I have a feeling it's going to be a huge hit for the network

by Anonymousreply 3February 4, 2020 3:45 AM

When did Steven Weber turn into Rob Schneider?

by Anonymousreply 4February 4, 2020 3:50 AM

I would have preferred a Nanny sequel series but I'll take any Fran Drescher over no Fran Drescher.

by Anonymousreply 5February 4, 2020 3:50 AM

Why do networks like NBC, ABC, and CBS continue to greenlight shitty sitcoms that look like they've crawled out of a late-90's time capsule?

by Anonymousreply 6February 4, 2020 3:58 AM

Is the young guy a bargain basement Paul Rudd?

by Anonymousreply 7February 4, 2020 4:16 AM

This should do well in its current time slot between Veronicaā€™s Closet and Suddenly Susan.

by Anonymousreply 8February 4, 2020 4:27 AM

All of Frans post-Nanny sitcoms have been incredibly dated. Itā€™s like she canā€™t get out of the 90ā€™s.

by Anonymousreply 9February 4, 2020 4:29 AM

Franā€™s version of ā€œLife with Lucy.ā€

by Anonymousreply 10February 4, 2020 4:39 AM

Is Madeline still mad at her?

by Anonymousreply 11February 4, 2020 4:46 PM

The explosive laff track is unintentionally funny. But that's about all.

by Anonymousreply 12February 4, 2020 5:27 PM

Adam Pally needs to bring back Happy Endings

by Anonymousreply 13February 4, 2020 5:36 PM

A second for a Nanny sequel. I love that show!

by Anonymousreply 14February 4, 2020 5:49 PM

I can't believe this pilot actually got picked up. It is so pedestrian.

by Anonymousreply 15February 7, 2020 2:44 AM

literally no one ever has their heads that close to each other

by Anonymousreply 16February 7, 2020 2:46 AM

Abby Elliott is trying to be like Debra Barone but ain't cutting it. Talented comedian but miscast in this part.

by Anonymousreply 17February 7, 2020 2:48 AM

Fran was on Wendy this morning, and she said after this show, the next project is a Nanny Broadway musical written with her ex- husband, and then reboot of the Nanny, with her in the Sylvia role and maybe John Leguizamo as Morty

by Anonymousreply 18February 7, 2020 3:08 AM

And? How was it?

by Anonymousreply 19February 7, 2020 9:30 AM

Not as bad as that new Jason Biggs garbage on Fox, but pretty bad.

by Anonymousreply 20February 7, 2020 2:46 PM

Fran also suggested a TV reboot in which she would play the grandmother. She threw out Cardi B as someone who would be great as The Nanny.

Gotta keep making that $$$ to keep her gay ex in designer caftans!

by Anonymousreply 21February 7, 2020 2:48 PM

Abby Eliot is an untalented skank!

by Anonymousreply 22February 7, 2020 2:57 PM

It stunk...the best friend is an incredibly bad actor.

by Anonymousreply 23February 7, 2020 3:17 PM

Even The Nanny started out awkwardly Maybe they can make something out of this. It has a 13-episode guarantee.

by Anonymousreply 24February 7, 2020 8:47 PM

Apparently Rachel Bloom from Crazy Ex Girlfriend is writing the music and lyrics to The Nanny musical with one of her musical collaborators from CEG.

by Anonymousreply 25February 7, 2020 9:24 PM

And the only good song will the TV theme song they will use for the curtain call.

by Anonymousreply 26February 7, 2020 10:12 PM

I would love it if they had Charles Shaughnessy play her husband. No offense to Steven Weber but she has far more chemistry with Mistah Sheffield.

by Anonymousreply 27February 7, 2020 10:21 PM

It was good enough for what it is, where and when it airs.

by Anonymousreply 28February 7, 2020 10:30 PM

I think it has possibilities. The premise is funny and I like the cast. Iā€™m going to hope it does okay.

by Anonymousreply 29February 7, 2020 10:51 PM

The set is so generic looking. As are the actors minus the Franny.

by Anonymousreply 30February 7, 2020 10:55 PM

Carol's second act got better over time.

by Anonymousreply 31February 7, 2020 11:12 PM

R31, Thanks for chiming in Patty Heaton. Donā€™t you have womenā€™s rights to campaign against?

by Anonymousreply 32February 7, 2020 11:21 PM
I would love it if they had Charles Shaughnessy play her husband. No offense to Steven Weber but she has far more chemistry with Mistah Sheffield.

How about Steven Weber and Tim Daly as an Eldergay couple?

by Anonymousreply 33February 8, 2020 12:42 AM

How original!

by Anonymousreply 34February 8, 2020 12:48 AM

But hotter!

by Anonymousreply 35February 8, 2020 12:53 AM

Really?

by Anonymousreply 36February 8, 2020 12:53 AM

Was I the only one here who like Happily Divorced with a gay ex-husband playing the gay ex-husband in real life? Or whatever.

by Anonymousreply 37February 8, 2020 12:55 AM

holy shit that was bad... I am embarrassed for all of them

by Anonymousreply 38February 8, 2020 2:19 AM

I love Fran, but that was pretty lackadaisical

by Anonymousreply 39February 8, 2020 5:59 AM
Was I the only one here who like Happily Divorced with a gay ex-husband playing the gay ex-husband in real life? Or whatever.

Love Happily Divorced. I wish they would have put both seasons out on DVD instead of just the first, since TVLand doesn't carry the show on its app.

by Anonymousreply 40February 8, 2020 6:03 AM
Is the young guy a bargain basement Paul Rudd?

How do you not know who Adam Pally is? Oh you're old. Never mind.

by Anonymousreply 41February 8, 2020 7:00 AM

[R33]: I'd watch that, and add my own story that the eldergays were still hot for each other.

by Anonymousreply 42February 8, 2020 8:59 AM

Shitty sitcom writing.

by Anonymousreply 43February 8, 2020 10:26 AM

No. Just no. Nope. I said No!

by Anonymousreply 44February 8, 2020 10:34 AM

She has aged so well. Not too much work. Looks great.

by Anonymousreply 45February 8, 2020 10:46 AM

You can see her face up close here.

by Anonymousreply 46February 8, 2020 11:21 AM

Totally off topic, but in the early 00s, I was really good friends with a girl I worked with. We would hang out at her house in Venice all the time. Fran was fing the guy next door. That laugh is real folks. We would drink our wine and crack up hearing them fuck.

Ah the good ol' days.

by Anonymousreply 47February 8, 2020 11:55 AM

This. Looks. Dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 48February 8, 2020 12:34 PM

Her face work is excellent, if there is any. Maybe she gained a little to fill it out.

Any tidbits about what she uses?

Iā€™m a little disappointed about the reboot. Itā€™s generous of her to offer the spotlight to a younger star, but I would be more interested in a continuation of the original show. Weā€™re supposed to pretend sheā€™s not the nanny, or did she dump Mr Sheffield and return to Flushing to have another daughter that follows in her footsteps?

Does Steve Webber show peen?

by Anonymousreply 51February 8, 2020 2:54 PM

He did when he was in "Hair."

by Anonymousreply 52February 8, 2020 2:57 PM

I can already hear the cringy laughtrack .. .. imagine if Fran did something totally out of character .. like played a speed junky on HBO

by Anonymousreply 53February 8, 2020 3:00 PM

There may be a market for 90s style sitcoms given that streaming services are doubling down on edgier, younger-oriented shows.

Lots of 60somethings who fondly remember the 90s, and I'm not just talking about Datalounge

by Anonymousreply 54February 8, 2020 3:04 PM

God that was bad! It reminds me of Lucy's last sit com, "Life With Lucy." Someone needs to send a note to Fran Drescher: You can't package manure and cover up the smell.

by Anonymousreply 55February 8, 2020 3:13 PM

R23 Yeah, that guy sucks in any movie or show he does.

by Anonymousreply 57February 8, 2020 3:21 PM

Didn't laugh once.

by Anonymousreply 58February 8, 2020 3:29 PM

She was on Wendy Williams the other day. She spoke about the new show, the Nanny Broadway musical, and the possible The Nanny reboot, in which she hopes Rapper/Singer Cardi B will star.

She also talked about having a "maintenance man" who comes over twice a month to clean her womanly pipes out.

Pass. We watched the first episode. These folks were trying way too hard to be funny.

by Anonymousreply 60February 8, 2020 3:49 PM

She is her own biggest fan.

by Anonymousreply 61February 8, 2020 4:18 PM

Watched it.... I like Fran, will give 1-2 more shots

by Anonymousreply 62February 8, 2020 4:39 PM

The Hollywood Reporter reviewer said the first three episodes almost seem like three different concepts: "Why make audiences eat the undercooked first batch of pilot pancakes?"

Also: "Weber and Drescher...can do this in their sleep. Drescher is sticking to her tried-and-true persona ā€” more generous than calling it "schtick" ā€” and if you think you can imagine the Nanny referring to "the Tweeter" or "AirBLT" or misquoting Nelson Mandela, then you can probably skip [italic]Indebted[/italic] entirely, because it doesn't get any better than that."

They should have cast Chris Elliot as the father. That would have been wonderfully weird and meta ish.

by Anonymousreply 64February 8, 2020 7:04 PM

R64 Chris Elliott played Abby's father in some movie with Aaron Tveit. There was also Clara's Ghost which featured Chris' wife Paula, Abby, and other daughter Bridey playing a family of an actor dad with two actress daughters and the mother is fed up with being shoved aside. It's really weird, but entertaining movie written and directed by Bridey.

by Anonymousreply 65February 8, 2020 7:49 PM

Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the scoop on that!

Chris Elliot coulf make the telephone book sound funny just by his delivery.

by Anonymousreply 66February 8, 2020 8:03 PM

Just watched and I agree that it was bad. Not one laugh in the entire thirty minutes. Badly written... horribly cast...and all the actors seem to think they're on a different show, or that they're the stars and everyone around is a bit player. That guy from Happy Endings is horrible and Abby Elliot is Ann Doysenberry without the charm. I'll tune in a few more times for Fran but whoever thought this was ready to air should never be allowed to make a mistake like that again. Horrible. Drescher deserves better.

by Anonymousreply 67February 8, 2020 8:31 PM

Woof. Just watched it. At least it canā€™t get worse. Can it?

Pally has moments of cuteness. He was at his cutest on The Mindy Project.

by Anonymousreply 68February 8, 2020 8:35 PM

Shouldn't y'all give it at least until episode 2? Pilots can be clunky. It usually takes 2 or 3 episodes to get a groove going.

by Anonymousreply 69February 8, 2020 8:38 PM

Paging Dorothy Lyman!

Pronto! Stat!

by Anonymousreply 70February 8, 2020 8:41 PM
Shouldn't y'all give it at least until episode 2? Pilots can be clunky. It usually takes 2 or 3 episodes to get a groove going.

Honey, you new here? We hated it, of course we aren't giving up on it.

by Anonymousreply 71February 8, 2020 8:56 PM

Weber who plays her husband looks so much like her gay ex husband irl Marc!!

by Anonymousreply 72February 8, 2020 9:04 PM

I watched the first episode. There was absolutely nothing compelling enough about it to make me want to watch a second one.

Fran does look great though. Steven Weber, who is four years younger than her in real life, looks ancient.

by Anonymousreply 73February 8, 2020 9:34 PM

I really thought that Pally's backside in the mirror was going to be the kicker in the subplot, alas it didn't happen. It just kind of fizzled.

by Anonymousreply 74February 9, 2020 12:00 AM
I would love it if they had Charles Shaughnessy play her husband. No offense to Steven Weber but she has far more chemistry with Mistah Sheffield.

Charles has appeared on all her post-Nanny shows. Undoubtedly he'll appear in this one too.

He needs the dollars, apparently - he appears at those headshot conventions all the time and will sell you an autographed photo for 70 bucks.

by Anonymousreply 75February 9, 2020 12:03 AM
He needs the dollars, apparently - he appears at those headshot conventions all the time and will sell you an autographed photo for 70 bucks.

Those people make a nice living. The actors, usually when the parts start to dry up, who do those types of events can do quite well. Butch Patrick was on Stern several years ago and said that he makes a half million a year just on autograph signings and nostalgia conventions.

by Anonymousreply 76February 9, 2020 2:13 AM

Did Steven Weber always sound like an old Jewish guy from Great Neck or is Fran's influence giving him that accent?

by Anonymousreply 77February 9, 2020 2:18 AM

He's from Queens.

by Anonymousreply 78February 9, 2020 2:29 AM

Yeah a stretch that these two are from Connecticut. I thought it was Long Island until they said where they lived.

by Anonymousreply 79February 9, 2020 3:30 AM

where do the kids live?

by Anonymousreply 80February 9, 2020 3:43 AM

Fran looked fab in the episode I saw the other night.

by Anonymousreply 81February 9, 2020 4:21 AM
he appears at those headshot conventions all the time and will sell you an autographed photo for 70 bucks.

How much does he charge for a blowjob?

by Anonymousreply 82February 9, 2020 4:33 AM

I made it through them talking about going to see Drake in concert and I bailed (not because of that). What a fucking POS. Poorly written, poorly acted. Dan Levy did this? I guess we know who in the family has the talent.

by Anonymousreply 83February 10, 2020 4:42 AM

I think that is a different Dan Levy.

by Anonymousreply 86February 10, 2020 4:54 AM

Glad its not the Dan Levy of Schitt's Creek fame.

I think this show fits fine with Caroline and the City, Boston Common and the Single Guy,

by Anonymousreply 87February 10, 2020 7:19 AM

I don't get Steven Weber's beard. He's very handsome--why would he hide that?

by Anonymousreply 88February 10, 2020 7:27 AM
where do the kids live?

They all live in Connecticut.

by Anonymousreply 89February 11, 2020 1:22 AM
I don't get Steven Weber's beard. He's very handsome--why would he hide that?

Maybe to look older, he's playing a Grandfather.

by Anonymousreply 90February 11, 2020 1:23 AM

Adam Pally is a good comic actor. His straight-bro-but- gay character on HAPPY ENDINGS could be infuriating, but that was more a function of the writing. Pally was often the best thing in a single episode. I also saw him do an off-Bway play a year ago, in a serious dramatic role, and he was quite good.

He's terrible in this, or at least in the pilot that I saw. Chewing scenery, spitting it out, and chewing it again every time he's on camera. Just self-conscious and awful.

On the plus side, I agree that Fran has had the best cosmetic work money can buy. She just looks like a refreshed version of herself. Really lovely.

by Anonymousreply 91February 11, 2020 2:21 AM

Can Steven Weber's eyes be any closer together?

by Anonymousreply 92February 11, 2020 5:52 AM

Watching this now. Christ, it's shit. How does crap like this get greenlit?

by Anonymousreply 93February 21, 2020 2:46 AM

The worst.

by Anonymousreply 94February 21, 2020 2:51 AM

I don't know if he's gay, but his dick is.

by Anonymousreply 96February 21, 2020 2:59 AM

Fran Drescher is slumming it.

by Anonymousreply 97February 21, 2020 3:25 AM

R95, that pic belongs on every thread

by Anonymousreply 98February 21, 2020 8:07 AM

Abby Ellliott looks and sounds like Kaley Cuoco.

by Anonymousreply 99February 21, 2020 7:20 PM

Fran's cashing a check. Her character is a big nothing but she sure wears skin tight clothes full make and heels walking around the house at all hours.

by Anonymousreply 100February 21, 2020 7:45 PM
Watching this now. Christ, it's shit. How does crap like this get greenlit?

It should be cancelled. And Fran has no acting range - plays the same character over and over in everything she does.

by Anonymousreply 101February 21, 2020 8:07 PM

I have to admit the scene where they're talking about the son skipping grades as a kid but he was actually being held back was pretty funny.

by Anonymousreply 102February 22, 2020 3:02 PM

With Drescher's talk about the Nanny reboot and the Nanny musical project, it looks like even she doesn't believe in the longevity of Indebted. Being producer or consultant behind the scenes, that may work. But she would not be able to play in the reboot while Indebted is still going on.

by Anonymousreply 103February 22, 2020 3:29 PM

I'm still watching the show, but I cannot believe that any professional writers are involved. It really is dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 104March 19, 2020 5:43 AM

I gave up on it. Just couldn't watch it anymore.

by Anonymousreply 105March 19, 2020 9:47 AM

It's on again tonight!

by Anonymousreply 106March 20, 2020 12:21 AM

They are running two new episodes this week, are they burning them off?

by Anonymousreply 107March 23, 2020 1:06 AM

If this show gets renewed I'll eat my hat.

by Anonymousreply 108March 23, 2020 2:19 AM

I like the absurd and bizarre, like Schittā€™s Creek and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but this show has no bearing at all to any recognizable human behavior.

by Anonymousreply 109March 27, 2020 4:48 AM

It's pretty terrible.

Why isn't someone making a show for Fran where she's more of a Mame type character? Probably too similar to the Nanny, but she doesn't fit well in domesticated stuff.

by Anonymousreply 110March 27, 2020 4:50 AM

I donā€™t want to be the one to say this, but I noticed there are many women writers and producers on the show, so I imagine a few of them are lesbians, and you know the stereotype that lesbians have an impaired sense of humor...

I cannot think of another reason why the show is so lamely and lazily written. (But I guess the make writers and producers must stink tooā€¦)

by Anonymousreply 111March 27, 2020 5:02 AM

R111 I agree and the lesbian daughter on the show is poorly written.

by Anonymousreply 112March 27, 2020 1:56 PM

This premise was more or less done 30 years ago with Hal Linden. As a writer it absolutely astonishes me that a show like this gets green lit and gets a 13 episode guarantee. This is the only credit for many of the writers, I canā€™t believe they turned out something so stale.

I love Fran Drescher but at this point sheā€™s getting like Valerie Cherish of The Comeback slumming it in dated sitcom schlock while being unable to move past her former glory. And just like Valerie shocked everyone when she did the dramatic part on HBO, Iā€™d love to see Fran do something on Netflix thatā€˜s totally out of her range. She was fantastic as Bobbie Fleckman and still she looks great. She has it in her to play a no nonsense agent ā€œmoney talks and bullshit walksā€, a lawyer, a senator.....Iā€™d rather see her in a paint by numbers Shonda Rhimes medical show that this.

by Anonymousreply 113April 13, 2020 5:12 AM

Tarantino should give her something juicy to do.

by Anonymousreply 114April 13, 2020 7:46 PM

Fran did an episode of Law & Order (or maybe it was L&O SVU) where her daughter was murdered. It didn't work. She would have been better playing one of the sharp attorneys. It worked for Tovah, it worked for LuPone.

by Anonymousreply 115April 13, 2020 10:04 PM

[quote} It worked for Tovah

Until she got shot.

by Anonymousreply 116April 13, 2020 10:30 PM

Did Tovah get shot on L&O? I know she got disbarred or something.

by Anonymousreply 117April 13, 2020 11:04 PM

It needs some retooling.

by Anonymousreply 118April 19, 2020 12:13 AM

Well, they had 12 episodes and perhaps, thatā€™s that.

by Anonymousreply 119April 19, 2020 1:07 AM
Fran did an episode of Law & Order (or maybe it was L&O SVU) where her daughter was murdered. It didn't work. She would have been better playing one of the sharp attorneys. It worked for Tovah, it worked for LuPone.

It was L&0 Criminal Intent. I remember the episode was quite awful.

by Anonymousreply 120April 19, 2020 2:13 AM

Criminal Intent episodes don't seem to be available on streaming services. I gave up on it after two seasons. D'Onofrio knew everyone and everything. It was too much.

Speaking of too much, I really don't think at this stage, Fran can do anything or be anything other than Fran. Over-the-top Fran.

by Anonymousreply 121April 23, 2020 3:43 PM

But if she can be properly slotted and written for, that personality is still appealing

by Anonymousreply 122April 23, 2020 10:11 PM

To no one's real surprise, NBC has not renewed the series for a second season

by Anonymousreply 123June 22, 2020 4:23 PM

Was it cancelled? Too bad. I was kind of getting used to its cringe factor. I actually liked that hot goss episode, it was almost funny.
