I would have preferred a Nanny sequel series but I'll take any Fran Drescher over no Fran Drescher.

Why do networks like NBC, ABC, and CBS continue to greenlight shitty sitcoms that look like they've crawled out of a late-90's time capsule?

This should do well in its current time slot between Veronicaās Closet and Suddenly Susan.

All of Frans post-Nanny sitcoms have been incredibly dated. Itās like she canāt get out of the 90ās.

Franās version of āLife with Lucy.ā

Abby Elliott is trying to be like Debra Barone but ain't cutting it. Talented comedian but miscast in this part.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 7, 2020 2:48 AM |
Fran was on Wendy this morning, and she said after this show, the next project is a Nanny Broadway musical written with her ex- husband, and then reboot of the Nanny, with her in the Sylvia role and maybe John Leguizamo as Morty
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 7, 2020 3:08 AM |
And? How was it?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 7, 2020 9:30 AM |
Not as bad as that new Jason Biggs garbage on Fox, but pretty bad.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 7, 2020 2:46 PM |
Fran also suggested a TV reboot in which she would play the grandmother. She threw out Cardi B as someone who would be great as The Nanny.
Gotta keep making that $$$ to keep her gay ex in designer caftans!

Totally off topic, but in the early 00s, I was really good friends with a girl I worked with. We would hang out at her house in Venice all the time. Fran was fing the guy next door. That laugh is real folks. We would drink our wine and crack up hearing them fuck.
Ah the good ol' days.

Her face work is excellent, if there is any. Maybe she gained a little to fill it out.
Any tidbits about what she uses?
Iām a little disappointed about the reboot. Itās generous of her to offer the spotlight to a younger star, but I would be more interested in a continuation of the original show. Weāre supposed to pretend sheās not the nanny, or did she dump Mr Sheffield and return to Flushing to have another daughter that follows in her footsteps?

There may be a market for 90s style sitcoms given that streaming services are doubling down on edgier, younger-oriented shows.
Lots of 60somethings who fondly remember the 90s, and I'm not just talking about Datalounge
by Anonymous | reply 54 | February 8, 2020 3:04 PM |
God that was bad! It reminds me of Lucy's last sit com, "Life With Lucy." Someone needs to send a note to Fran Drescher: You can't package manure and cover up the smell.

She was on Wendy Williams the other day. She spoke about the new show, the Nanny Broadway musical, and the possible The Nanny reboot, in which she hopes Rapper/Singer Cardi B will star.
She also talked about having a "maintenance man" who comes over twice a month to clean her womanly pipes out.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | February 8, 2020 3:39 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 62 | February 8, 2020 4:39 PM |
The Hollywood Reporter reviewer said the first three episodes almost seem like three different concepts: "Why make audiences eat the undercooked first batch of pilot pancakes?"
Also: "Weber and Drescher...can do this in their sleep. Drescher is sticking to her tried-and-true persona ā more generous than calling it "schtick" ā and if you think you can imagine the Nanny referring to "the Tweeter" or "AirBLT" or misquoting Nelson Mandela, then you can probably skip [italic]Indebted[/italic] entirely, because it doesn't get any better than that."
by Anonymous | reply 63 | February 8, 2020 5:04 PM |
They should have cast Chris Elliot as the father. That would have been wonderfully weird and meta ish.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | February 8, 2020 7:04 PM |
R64 Chris Elliott played Abby's father in some movie with Aaron Tveit. There was also Clara's Ghost which featured Chris' wife Paula, Abby, and other daughter Bridey playing a family of an actor dad with two actress daughters and the mother is fed up with being shoved aside. It's really weird, but entertaining movie written and directed by Bridey.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | February 8, 2020 7:49 PM |
Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the scoop on that!
Chris Elliot coulf make the telephone book sound funny just by his delivery.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | February 8, 2020 8:03 PM |
Just watched and I agree that it was bad. Not one laugh in the entire thirty minutes. Badly written... horribly cast...and all the actors seem to think they're on a different show, or that they're the stars and everyone around is a bit player. That guy from Happy Endings is horrible and Abby Elliot is Ann Doysenberry without the charm. I'll tune in a few more times for Fran but whoever thought this was ready to air should never be allowed to make a mistake like that again. Horrible. Drescher deserves better.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | February 8, 2020 8:31 PM |

I watched the first episode. There was absolutely nothing compelling enough about it to make me want to watch a second one.
Fran does look great though. Steven Weber, who is four years younger than her in real life, looks ancient.

I really thought that Pally's backside in the mirror was going to be the kicker in the subplot, alas it didn't happen. It just kind of fizzled.

Charles has appeared on all her post-Nanny shows. Undoubtedly he'll appear in this one too.

Those people make a nice living. The actors, usually when the parts start to dry up, who do those types of events can do quite well. Butch Patrick was on Stern several years ago and said that he makes a half million a year just on autograph signings and nostalgia conventions.

Adam Pally is a good comic actor. His straight-bro-but- gay character on HAPPY ENDINGS could be infuriating, but that was more a function of the writing. Pally was often the best thing in a single episode. I also saw him do an off-Bway play a year ago, in a serious dramatic role, and he was quite good.
He's terrible in this, or at least in the pilot that I saw. Chewing scenery, spitting it out, and chewing it again every time he's on camera. Just self-conscious and awful.
On the plus side, I agree that Fran has had the best cosmetic work money can buy. She just looks like a refreshed version of herself. Really lovely.

It should be cancelled. And Fran has no acting range - plays the same character over and over in everything she does.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | February 21, 2020 8:07 PM |
I have to admit the scene where they're talking about the son skipping grades as a kid but he was actually being held back was pretty funny.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | February 22, 2020 3:02 PM |
With Drescher's talk about the Nanny reboot and the Nanny musical project, it looks like even she doesn't believe in the longevity of Indebted. Being producer or consultant behind the scenes, that may work. But she would not be able to play in the reboot while Indebted is still going on.

Why isn't someone making a show for Fran where she's more of a Mame type character? Probably too similar to the Nanny, but she doesn't fit well in domesticated stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | March 27, 2020 4:50 AM |
I donāt want to be the one to say this, but I noticed there are many women writers and producers on the show, so I imagine a few of them are lesbians, and you know the stereotype that lesbians have an impaired sense of humor...
I cannot think of another reason why the show is so lamely and lazily written. (But I guess the make writers and producers must stink tooā¦)
by Anonymous | reply 111 | March 27, 2020 5:02 AM |
R111 I agree and the lesbian daughter on the show is poorly written.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | March 27, 2020 1:56 PM |
This premise was more or less done 30 years ago with Hal Linden. As a writer it absolutely astonishes me that a show like this gets green lit and gets a 13 episode guarantee. This is the only credit for many of the writers, I canāt believe they turned out something so stale.
I love Fran Drescher but at this point sheās getting like Valerie Cherish of The Comeback slumming it in dated sitcom schlock while being unable to move past her former glory. And just like Valerie shocked everyone when she did the dramatic part on HBO, Iād love to see Fran do something on Netflix thatās totally out of her range. She was fantastic as Bobbie Fleckman and still she looks great. She has it in her to play a no nonsense agent āmoney talks and bullshit walksā, a lawyer, a senator.....Iād rather see her in a paint by numbers Shonda Rhimes medical show that this.
