Former Hottie Justin Chambers Leaving Grey's After 15 Years
The revolving door at Grey’s Anatomy is back in spinning mode: Justin Chambers is leaving ABC’s venerable medical drama after playing Dr. Alex Karev for 16 seasons.
“There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” Chambers said in a statement to our sister site Deadline. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time. As I move on from Grey’s Anatomy, I want to thank the ABC family, Shonda Rimes, original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens, and the rest of the amazing cast and crew, both past and present, and, of course, the fans for an extraordinary ride.”
Titular star Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. are now the lone remaining original cast members.
What a moron. He's not aging that well, he has an army of kids to support, and he hasn't had any non-Grey's work in seven years. The time to diversify is when you're young and hot.
I assume he has plenty of cash after 16 seasons, so hopefully he's invested well. But yeah...dumbass.

Something smells fishy. 16 years and no real sendoff?
Grey’s Anatomy fans have already seen the last of Alex Karev. TVLine has confirmed that the final episode featuring Justin Chambers — whose departure from the show was announced early Friday — aired on Nov. 14. In the Nov. 21 episode, viewers learned that Alex had returned home to care for his ailing mother.
The fact that Chambers will not be given a proper onscreen sendoff suggests his departure came abruptly and without much notice.

Who in the HELL watches "Grey's Anatomy?" Teenage girls and middle aged women? I've watched film clips of it and they make me want to gag. People on that show never talk; they makes speeches. Here's one by the poor doomed character called Lexie. It's addressed to "Dr. McSteamy" Mark Sloan:
"I love you. Oh God.. oh, my God, that just came flying out of my face. I love you. I just...I did it again. I love you. I do. I just, I love you. And I have been trying not to say it. I have been trying so hard to just mash it down and ignore it and not say it… I am so in love with you. You’re in me. You’re like — it’s like you’re a disease. It’s like I am infected by Mark Sloan and I just can’t think about anything or anybody and I can’t sleep. I can’t breathe. I can’t eat. And I love you. I love you all the time. Every minute of every day. I love you."

Grey's Anatomy is my only real trash-TV guilty pleasure. My mom watched the first couple seasons when I was in high school so I remember it being on in our house, and I later watched it off and on by myself and always found it extraordinarily entertaining. When I was in graduate school, I made my way through the whole series on Netflix, stopped watching for a few years, and recently got back up to speed while recovering from a surgery. It's ridiculous, but the characters and atmosphere are what really make it for me. It's TV comfort food to me essentially.
As far as Justin is concerned, I've lusted after him for years. I find him absurdly sexy, and have always liked his character on the show. It'll be sad to see him leave, especially since he and Meredith had such a strong bond over the duration of the series. At this point, I'm sort of hoping they pull the plug and don't drag it on any more than they already have.

Isaiah Washington fighting with Patrick Dempsey over T.R. Knight. Katherine Heigl criticizing the writing and then leaving the show. Patrick Dempsey fired and then Shonda killing his character off. Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew - fan favourites - fired so that cunt Ellen Pompeo could get a higher paycheque (sorry, Ellen, we still don't believe you "had nothing to do with it"), now this.
This show is a mess behind the scenes.

Why is this anything? Isn't GA toast, anyway, either next season or the one after that? I'da sworn Pompeo recently made a BFD over (finally) walking away from it any old time now.
Chambers really looks his 50 years now. He was such a babe for that first season of "Cold Case," which promptly dumped him, enabling him to sign on with GA and make multi-millions every year for 15 years, lucky bastard.

We are in the new age of nonlinear viewing, so the legacy networks’ new MO, to postpone the inevitable, is to have tentpoles like Greys or SVU or NCIS and ride that horse til it drops dead. It’s the exact opposite at streaming, where Netflix determined that there’s no economic benefit for the company to have more than three seasons.

R53: Everyone who is aware of their limited range.
If you are on a hit show (and Grey's was a hit at the start) you take profit of that. At the end you have money enough to try to skip being typecasted.
And if you are smart, during the time you are playing the role you use your free time to get small roles in films to show the world you can do a lot more. That makes the transition once the show ends way easier

Whoever that Tanya is on Sara's Twitter, R26, she seems to be indicating that some Krista is the one perhaps instigating all these people getting fired. She retweeted something where this Krista called Sara and someone else toxic, but the consensus seems to be that Krista is toxic. There's a writer named Krista. That's as far as my sleuthing goes. I stopped watching this trainwreck of a show 10 years ago. It was no better than a daytime soap. Maybe that's the key to its longevity. Anyway, that Tanya's twitter is the interesting one.

R58 Krista Vernoff is the head writer and show runner on Grey's.
She is or was a good writer; she wrote for a few shows before Grey's (like Wonderfalls) and she was on the first 5-ish years of Grey's. She brought a lot of the fun humor to the early seasons.
After she left GA became a tragedy porn fest. Krista returned a few years ago - 3 or 4 - and it hasn't really helped much.

She already did take over, I don't think Shonda has much to do w/Grey's now.
Shonda has been pissed about Grey's for a long time, it is a show that had a lot of network interference and changed a lot from what she originally intended. It also has done ridiculously well, so any power she's been given in the TV universe is because someone somewhere hopes she'll create another big hit like GA.

Heigl may be a bitch but she was right that the writing for her character was shit. The ghost Denny and that nonsense was AWFUL. Maybe she didn't handle it well but what lies did she tell?
Krista is a bitch just as Ellen Pompeo is a bitch. It's because of them that Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew got fired. Ellen to get more $$ and Krista because she became the showrunner. The excuse was their stories had come to an end or some bullshit. And Krista drove the knife in further when she married April off to Matthew, ensuring that she could not come back for Jackson. It was ridiculous since April left Matthew at the altar. So, r58 is not far off about Krista. .

What was so horrible about it was the obvious body double for Heigl which just reinforces that Shonda is a bitch who holds a grudge. They should have brought Heigl back to make this believable.
It was just so horribly written, and all those cheesy shots of the farms and the kids were laughable.
Krista helped get rid of April and Arizona and gave Alex a shitty send-off. She is an awful writer.

Hasn't Pompeo made something close to $1 million per episode for the past 10 years?
She's making like $20mm per season.
I'm stunned that they think she's worth that much.

At least a million an episode. I found this from 2 years ago
With “Grey's” now in its 14th season, Pompeo is one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, earning more than $20 million a year, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She'll receive $575,000 per episode, a seven-figure signing bonus, producing fees and back-end equity in the deal, among other perks

I started watching for the first time for Jake Borelli who I think is adorable. Wow - it is really, really bad. All of the actors speak in really loud sitcom voices and only a few them are convincing as medical professionals. They make John Stamos on ER look believable. Was it always this bad?

I started washing again after many years when the Jake Borelli storyline started.
I fast forward through most of the plots, but I do watch the gay guys and the seams with Debbie Allen.
By the way, despite its histrionics and shortcomings, the series is a like a documentary compared to that Patricia Heaton sitcom Carol's second chance, which seems though it has never seen a medical show, either drama or comedy, before.

It was worse. The "Dizzy" years are some of the worst storytelling of all time, in any medium. And they were quite early on.

The show died when Sandra left.

R123 it was silly but tolerable.

No, r125. It was, for me, literally not tolerable. I stopped watching Grey's for years mid-Dizzy.

R126 I'll take it over the Gizzy pairing.

Ellen Pompeo is such a fake cunt. She's all over social media saying how it was the best send-off. Jesus Christ, you're already getting $20 million. You don't need to feed us this b.s. She is such a smug bitch.
Although weirdly, she went on and on about how Karev was a great character but said little about Justin.

I'm over the sad, fat cunts crying on twitter about the show.
I mean, it sucks, but you'd think they were Qanon weirdos based on how much they've shrieked about it. get over it!!!!

Either she's high or they paid her a fortune to say that.
