‘The Conners’ Casts ‘Shameless’ Star Noel Fisher as Grown-Up ‘Roseanne’ Character

How are they affording this cast? That's a lot of people to pay. Besides the leads, Katey Sagal & Jay R. Ferguson aren't getting scale.

I hated, hated, hated him on SVU, and then Shameless came along and he (and Emmy Rossum) were robbed of Emmy nominations for the third season.

This storyline is ridiculous. Crystal was a good friend of Roseanne's and featured prominently in the first season of the reboot, yet Dan hasn't seen his step siblings since they were infants?

And no way would Ed not give those letter to them. Goes against the character that Ned Beatty played so well.

And Darlene is thinking about having another kid? She's broke, has no job, she lives in her parents house, but she's contemplating having another child with someone whom she cheated on with?

What a mess. It's like can we make these characters surroundings any more shittier than they already are?

Big Ed gave those little brats their first VCR and VHS movies!

He’s Crystal’s son? Didn’t she make an appearance in the reboot already?

Yeah this plot made no sense especially since we have seen Crystal both pre and post Rosanne death. Crystal wouldn’t have allowed Big Ed to cut Dan off from his brother and sister by pretending he wanted nothing to do with them. How would she explain going over to see Roseanne and Dan even though their big brother hates their existence.

Big Ed tried to make amends several times. It turns out his mother was mentally ill and Big Ed took the brunt of Dan's anger regarding their breakup.

Dan has his own son he never mentions as does Jackie but Big Ed is written off as a bitter hoarder which makes no sense at all.

They kind of neglected to mention that Crystal was Ed's wife and the mother of these two kids - have they quietly forgotten that fact? Was she still with him? Were they divorced? Methinks they're fucking with some of the continuity, here. Even though Crystal was in the rebooted season of Roseanne, she hasn't been in these two seasons of The Conners - she hasn't even been mentioned.

They didn't trash Big Ed as much as Grandpa Harris at least.

Crystal would have made sure Dan and his siblings got together.

She was that kind of character.

I fucking hate that they're messing with the continuity. The showrunner said a few weeks back that Jackie's son doesn't exist in "this timeline." I mean, what does it take, a mention that he moved to New York or something? Come the fuck on. Roseanne has been in constant repeats since it went off the air - it's not like fucking with the timeline on Murphy Brown or Fuller House. People know these characters inside and out.

Ahhh I don't know about that. "MWC" was one of the first shows on the new FOX Network. Destitute, of course not but those early shows might not have gotten such sweetheart deals as the majors. And she is always working, that donut shop flop, her new pilot and she does autograph shows. I don't think anyone with "tens of millions" does shows.

So Dan wrote letter after letter knowing his father was sending them back and never reached out to Crystal ? Lazy writing. The age difference alone was enough to create a distance between the characters no need to destroy the Ed character in the process.

Wow, I had no idea the actor who took over the role of Lonnie died. What was the cause? I also never put together that his character name was Lonnie Anderson! I remember the original kid was in that movie I Know My First Name Is Steven with DL fave Corin "Corky" Nemec.

Jackie's pregnancy were at the top of eps of Roseanne. The explanation as to how Jackie got her own name while giving birth - Marjorie? Who's Marjorie? - great stuff. So Andy doesn't exist? So stupid.

Crystal needs to come back to defend Big Ed in all of this. Dan was always rejecting his friendly overtures. There are two sides to every story. Dan always had a big chip on his shoulder about his father who for all of his faults endeavored to reach out to him ON SCREEN!

I like Noel. I think he fits in with the current cast.

OK I 'm not one to think actors are all powerful, can direct themselves and do whatever they want but I would be curious if the Conner actors questioned the new plots or just don't remember what took place in the past. Most actors don't watch their work like we do so they may have taped a show and not thought of it again for the last thirty years.

Becky and Darlene's bemused reaction to their grandfather's death was pretty chilling.

I only remember one Lonnie. When did Lonnie 2 first make an appearance?

Luke Edward's played Lonnie in two episodes in season 2. Kristopher Kent Hill took over the role in season 3.

They need to bring on Andy, Jackie's son.

They've made excuses about not doing it but it's dumb.

The timeline is all kinds of screwed up. From Beverly never giving up ownership of the diner, to this.

I always thought the original show made a big mistake by not having Ned Beatty and Goodman's characters develop a closer relationship after it was revealed that he took the blame for Audrey's illness (which was another odd switch, because Ann Wedgeworth played her as a stable travel agent). But according to Estelle Parsons, Ned Beatty didn't come back anymore because the show paid its guest stars next to nothing and he felt it just wasn't worth going out to LA to make peanuts. John Randolph who played her husband also didn't come back for the same reason.

There have always been continuity issues. How the fuck did Ann Wedgeworth morph into Debbie Reynolds??!?

There were actually three actors who played Lonnie Anderson: Josh C. Williams, Luke Edwards, and Kristopher Kent Hill.

Also, Ed O’Neill was being paid half a million an episode during the last season of MWC, not during the entire run. I don’t believe Katey Sagal was being paid as much as Ed. She has an estimated net worth of $30 million for whatever that’s worth.

Sam Kinison and Roseanne Barr were offered the parts of Al and Peggy Bundy, but obviously both turned them down.

I thought one of the reasons Ned Beaty didn’t come back was he didn’t like the way Roseanne treated the writers/staff.

It was probably because guest stars were paid so poorly. That's why John Randolph didn't come back. I think Estelle Parsons mentions it in an interview too.

Matt Williams still gets "created by" credit which must infuriate Roseanne and everything.

Are they turning it into a East Enders type show? With people making the exact wrong decisions, then tormenting the audience for months with their resulting story arcs? Lanfordians?

The diner cook panic attack story line was just dumb. Darlene maybe having a baby is not something I want to see either. I am crushing on her boyfriend though. He has a gorgeous smile.

They really need to work out the ownership issues and bring Married with Children back, even if it’s only for a limited run. I enjoyed that show a hell of a lot more than Roseanne.

Boyfriend worked with him on a show two or so years ago, I got to meet Noel and the wife at the Halloween party. They were both nice, him especially. They seemed like any other late 30s/early 40s married couple.

Adding a baby to a sitcom is the ultimate shark jump. In the first season of the reboot, Becky was going to be a surrogate for another couple, but a doctor told her she was too old. Then, whoops, she gets knocked up. And now a year later, Darlene is thinking about getting pregnant, too? Come up with some new ideas; give DJ a storyline.

At this point Jackie can have another one and then Bev AKA Seahag can have a late in life surprise pregnancy.

I can't decide if adult DJ is cute or not.

He does have a lot of hair. I think he'd look better with it more closely cropped, maybe half an inch long. Also, I wonder if he's covering up gray hair. At this age, I think a bit of gray hair would look good on him.

Michael Fishman was cute 7 year old. Then it was all over. And decided on an Eddie Munster 'do.

Adult DJ is definitely not cute and unfortunately, still only has the acting ability of young DJ.

If there’s going to be a DJ storyline, they ought to bring back Heather Matarazzo.

Young DJ was great and a much better actor than adult DJ.

Noel was great. He's a great fit with the cast.

Looks like they're acknowledging that Crystal is little Ed's mother by the addition of that flashback clip. It would have been nice to include her in last week's episode, though, or at least to explain if she and Ed had been separated or still together.

I think Crystal made one or two quick appearances in the Roseanne reboot. I don't think she was on screen long enough to mention her husband and kids. This is another way the writers and producers are disrespecting fans of the show by altering past story lines. Where's Andy again?

The reboot had a whole episode around Crysral retiring from the casino and Darlene getting her job.

Darlene needs to try to get that job back.

Next week's episode has them all poor, unemployed and depressed...so they all decide to get tattoos!

It really is a slice of deplorable American life!

I always thought he was a really nice guy but I never found him attractive in any way, shape, or form. With the face and body he has it seems like he was born to play The Penguin. Even his ass his an eyesore (which is why I hated that they decided to make him the bottom in the Ian-Mickey pairing on Shameless). Really sweet and funny dude, but he's lucky to even be working when he's built like Oswald Cobblepot and has the mug to match. Shameless was the best thing that could've ever happened to him.

I had no clue the throuple lady was Jennifer Grey.

The slow romantic storyline with John Goodman and Katey Sagal is sweet and believable. Laurie Metcalfe's talents are being wasted. I guess the writers don't want to write anything for the DJ character. Becky has had a personality transplant since the show's first run. And the Darlene character? Now she's going to a fertility doctor to try to have another baby? In her mid 40s? When she's always whining that she has to live with her dad because she doesn't make enough money to take care of the two kids that she already has? Just two seasons ago, Becky was whining that her eggs were too old for pregnancy, and then she got knocked up. Is the show going to jump that exact same shark twice in two years?

Bev gets no respect when she is frequently the voice of reason and logic on this insane show. David the deadbeat dad gets more slack cut .

The problem with this show is that in the original, they had problems but they always managed to work their way through them. They were lower middle class/poor but they had goals.

A lot of that is missing in the reboot.

Sara Gilbert is shockingly thin this season. Even the other characters comment on how small she is.

I like the reboot and think it's a lot better than I was expecting; however, if they really decide to let Darlene get pregnant and have another child, that is the surest sign of all that your writers are completely devoid of any ideas whatsoever.

The fact that Dan is alive should be enough to show you that this isn't the same continuity as the original Roseanne.

I wish ABC would cancel The Connors and do Landford, recasting Darlene as young Roseanne and Ben as young Dan and set it back in the 80s.

I stopped watching it, but I see that they are continuing their streak of having the most unattractive cast in television.
