British Royal Family Saga #100
With the Prince Charles Slimming Down Royals thread paywalled, and the OMG. OMG. Harry and Meghan have QUIT threads nearly at 500 posts in five hours, here is a place to continue this expanding saga.
Can you imagine the cheek of Harry and Meghan, stating without discussion with TQ and Charles that they want to become "financially independent" and will remove themselves from the Sovereign Grant but still expect handouts and support for their work from Her Maj and the Prince of Wales???!!!
What next? "We'll show up at the Trooping the Colour if you beg us"?!

The "financially independent" line will haunt their Duke-and-Duchess-of-Windsor egomania for the rest of their embarrassing lives.
Stupid AND deluded.

Where / when did they say they still expect "handouts?" What "handouts", specifically?

R1 - I agree - the only value in the phrase is that it may at last supersede "Are you OK, Meghan?", which in its day superseded, "What Meghan wants, Meghan gets."

Has anyone seen the play Charles III? It premiered in 2014. Harry meets a girl who convinces him to become a commoner. In the end, he bottles it at the last minute and splits up with her, choosing the familiarity and security of the monarchy.

R5 Interesting scenario. It's actually quite a cunning move, if you think it through. Instead of making it easy for Harry, insist that he give up the titles, the annual seven-figure handout from Papa, the freebie home, his and his descendants' places in the line of succession, and put his money where his Woke mouth is . . . and see how much Meghan and "freedom" mean to him under those circumstances.

r1, they only said they were going to TRY... That's hedging language.

What does this have to do with me ?
Will it negatively impact the price of baked beans, bacon, and tea?

Meghan is heading back to Canada to pick up Baby Archie.
Hmmmmmm . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Why did they leave the baby in Canada. Because they were planning to come right back to Canada? Are they expanding their "break"? Or are they moving to Canada RIGHT NOW, and they just came back to London to get the good stuff out of their cottage and take it to Canada with them?
Who moves on such short notice? It literally sounds like they're running away from home.

They left Archie for fear the BRF would lay claim to him. H&M thought he would out of their reach in Canada. Unfortunately, the lawyers explained otherwise. It must have been a "get him now" or the UK ambassador (or other official) will.

This wasn't an impulse decision. It's been well planned.

I hope she didn't take a private jet back to Canada.

r11, thats exactly what it sounds like.
I hope there's an underground railroad for them to spirit Archie away to the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. The men in grey suits are after him!
I mean, Jesus Christ, what the hell kind of cloak and dagger shit IS this?

Their joint monogram alone marks them (literally) as mere marketing creeps. There is no "joint monogram," A monogram is for a person, and no one EVER writes correspondence using a two-person brand unless it is a person writing for a business or organization. They are now the Kardashian royals and treating themselves as a joint commodity. They're hideous.
The vulgarity and stupidity WITH entitlement - their perfect mix.
But they'll still want Frogmore Cottage, and watch them try to sublet it when they're in "North America." They still get their security when in the UK, at least. They'll have all the perquisites of title and celebrity.

R9, I suppose she sees this as a heroic attempt to reunite with him. She doesn't realize it's not normal to leave your child on another continent while you blackmail its grandparents.

If she's forced to bring him back OR stay there w/Archie and not return, it will be worse than Diana. As in, the only way Archie can stay in Canada is if one of his parents is with him. (Just speculating)
Either way, this is good move on the part of the BRF. It gives me Archie back as bargaining chip, or forces a rupture in the marital relationship. (Hate to say it, b/c IMO most criticism has been unfair, the BRF has overreacted to them compared to Andrew, but if she just stays in Canada and send Archie back via FEDEX, I would not be surprised.)

If she goes back to the UK WITH Archie in tow, the firm won. They did not leave him in Canada, just to go back and pick him up in three days. They planned on him staying there. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if she claimed her life was in danger in the UK. I don't see how they can legally stay in Canada for any period of time. The Queen is Head of State of Canada and the Canadian govt is not going to side with Meghan over the BRF.

r22, and what if she hauls it over to LA instead? (I'm not arguing; I agree with you!) I can see her being "allowed" to take Archie to Canada, and then from there, going to California. A little fake-out, if you will.

No one is going to stop her from taking that baby anywhere. She has the baby's father's full approval to take the baby. There's no way the place would risk the public relations nightmare of snatching a child from its parents, especially a child that isn't important to the monarchy's secession.

R23– I doubt she’s traveling as freely as people think. Both her and Archie will have RPO’s with them and they’re not taking orders from her.

So, how long is it going to take them to announce final "arrangements" do you think?
Harry did his allegedly last engagement today at Buckingham Palace and the Sussex's put up a video of it on their new web site to the accompaniment of Stone Rose's hit "This is the One", which includes the line "I'd like to leave the country for a month of Sundays" (these lines not heard in the video).
And after being quoted as saying she didn't want to bring Archie up in the "toxic environment" of royal life, and varied other messages that demonstrate the Sussex's extreme dislike and contempt for the Windsors and Britain . . . how the fuck do they think they can ever come back and even do "part-time" royal work or have anything resembling decent relationships with Harry's family?
They can't. They're bridge-burning like mad, especially Meghan. So it's all down to how much can they get out of Charles and Betty as they jump ship.
As long as no taxpayer money is involved, and the BRF cut off their Sussex title, and takes Frogmore away from them as a "home base" when they're forced to return occasionally to Old Blighty . . . I don't see the problem.
