Henry Cavill's view on LGBT?

So Henry Cavill is back on top of the world right now what with The Witcher and all, so what better time to be talking about him than now? I know that there are rumors and gossip about Cavill being secretly gay/bi and closeted, but I honestly think that's a load of b.s. I believe that he really is straight. However there is no doubt that he is gay-friendly, what with all the evidence of him being in gay bars back when he was younger, having a million gay friends, etc. but I've always been curious as to what his views on LGBT/gay rights are.

I always had the hunch that Cavill was pro-gay until 2018 when he made those comments in response to his opinion about the whole #metoo episode. He said words like "traditional" and "old fashioned" quite favorably, which made me wonder if he holds socially conservative views (not that there's anything wrong with that, his views are his own and he is certainly entitled to his opinions). I know he's from a military background and that this demographic tends to be conservative by nature, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I really wish that someone in the press would ask him about it (in a way that doesn't sound political), because it really makes me wonder. I'm fairly certain he would have no probably responding truthfully. For the record, I find it odd how someone who appears to be so open-minded about gay people/culture hasn't ever talked about it or alluded/referenced anything about the subject in ANY way (with the exception of a 2015 Man from UNCLE interview where he said that he was comfortable with his sexuality). Maybe him avoiding the subject is a sign that he really IS closeted?

It's not like I'm DYING to know or anything, I'm just really curious. What do you guys think?

by Anonymousreply 85September 23, 2020 9:52 AM

Henry Cavill has strongly avoided the subject. He said nothing when gay marriage was legalized in the UK (or the US) for instance, when most celebrities did.

Which is strange, because even if we accept the narrative he is straight, a lot of his best friends and social circle were gay men.
So Henry Cavill is back on top of the world right now what with The Witcher and all, so what better time to be talking about him than now?
Yes. Duly noted, stan.

by Anonymousreply 2January 7, 2020 11:49 PM

Superman CANNOT be gay. It would ruin the mythology of the brand! Lois Lane is his love and so HENRY cannot be a cock hungry gay man because of his close association with the role. Millions of fans would freak out if "Superman" was gay and actually banging Jimmy Olson! Give it time and once he is contractually done with DC Comics/Warner Bros, you may see a different side of him. To play those superhero roles those contracts cover everything, because the fanbase is kids. So no dick pics or sex tapes or scandolous behavior!

But no, I don't believe Henry is homophobic whether he is gay or straight.

by Anonymousreply 3January 8, 2020 12:06 AM

Funnily enough, his friend Panti Bliss was at the forefront of the Marriage Equality movement in Ireland.

by Anonymousreply 4January 8, 2020 12:10 AM

There was a thread on him making fun of a gay man's voice a few weeks back, so whatever it is, it's not good.

by Anonymousreply 5January 8, 2020 12:14 AM

Well, he likes to put femmes down, so he's probably a DLer.

by Anonymousreply 6January 8, 2020 12:16 AM

(OP here)

[R1], I mean, putting that aside, he's never really referenced or brought up ANYTHING gay-related. I also find it strange, given that many of his friends were (or still are) mostly gay, as you say. I'm really getting the hunch that he does have socially conservative leanings, but even still, surely he has to have a soft spot in his heart for the gay community.

[R4], really? Interesting fact.

[R6], I really don't think Cavill meant any malice by it. It looks like it was done in a jocular manner. Judging by the fact that he's got some insanely effeminate gay friends, I really doubt he's got anything against femmes.

by Anonymousreply 10January 8, 2020 12:56 AM

(OP)

R9, Not trolling, that really is what I think. I find it hard to believe that Cavill is gay/bi, but then again how the hell should I know? Maybe ya'll are right and he really is closeted. Like I said I find it really hard to believe that someone so supposedly gay-friendly refuses to acknowledge anything gay-related.

by Anonymousreply 11January 8, 2020 1:40 AM

Tom Cruise don't acknowledge gay related stuff, does he? He's probably someone Cavill wants to emulate,.

by Anonymousreply 12January 8, 2020 1:43 AM

Back when he was on the PR circuit for Batman v. Superman he made a few good-natured gay jokes while Ben Affleck scowled despondently beside him, so from that (and about a million photos of him and Corey Spears partying together) I'd assume that if he is in fact heterosexual, he has no problem with people who aren't.

by Anonymousreply 13January 8, 2020 1:51 AM

R13, that much is clear. But what I'm really curious about are his views on gay issues, etc. I guess maybe we'll never know. Being a private person and all, he's probably afraid that sharing his views on matters like these will polarize his fans or perhaps make him look bad in the press. God knows that if he holds conservative views he will be CRUCIFIED by Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 16January 8, 2020 2:34 AM

There is an obvious reason Cavill went from being all about gay before he was famous to barely saying a word about it once he became famous. Gee, it's almost like he is trying to hide something.

Watched his new movie on amazon prime, Night Hunter.... how in hell did they get henry, Stanley tucci, Nathan fillion and the guy who played Ghandi to be in this b movie??? horrible direction, worse script, and they cast a Baywatch teen as henrys co detective.....for the str8s in the audience?

Very odd movie, could have been a good crime thriller in capable hands.

by Anonymousreply 25January 9, 2020 4:27 PM

Cavill shouldn't have apologized for his comments regarding #metoo. Now he seems like a pussy.

by Anonymousreply 26January 9, 2020 4:49 PM

No, he seemed like a pussy when he made the "I won't talk to her, she'll label me a rapist" comments.

by Anonymousreply 27January 9, 2020 5:15 PM

R27 That makes no sense. His career should be more important than some random woman who wants to use #metoo in order to get attention. He was right to be wary of approaching women because nowadays everything that might slightly offend someone could result in a baseless accusation. Just his statement regarding metoo alone made a bunch of feminists angry and like a dog on a leash he was forced to apologize. What a bitch boy.

Most closet cases won’t say a word about gay issues because of fear that they will attract attention to themselves.

by Anonymousreply 33January 9, 2020 6:34 PM
Most closet cases won’t say a word about gay issues because of fear that they will attract attention to themselves.

I don’t think this necessarily holds true for some of the 20somethings who rhapsodize about fluidity.

by Anonymousreply 34January 9, 2020 6:42 PM

R34 But he’s not a 20-something and he doesn’t rhapsodize fluidity...

by Anonymousreply 35January 9, 2020 6:46 PM

R35 Understood. Just saying that while it holds true for closet cases of Henry’s age, the whippersnappers don’t seem as fearful.

by Anonymousreply 36January 9, 2020 6:48 PM

He will never tell...

by Anonymousreply 37January 9, 2020 7:30 PM

Who are some of the names yapping about fluidity?

by Anonymousreply 38January 9, 2020 7:30 PM

(OP here)

R33, you know you do have a point there. It's also interesting how Cavill hasn't played a gay role as of yet. You would think that someone like himself would have by now, even if it's just small, but he hasn't. He says that he is comfortable with this sexuality but I get the feeling that he's one of those types who rejects playing gay parts. I'm fairly sure that he's probably been offered some in the past

by Anonymousreply 39January 9, 2020 8:37 PM
"But Cavill also said the movement made him wary of approaching women for fear that an innocent interaction may lead to an extreme accusation."

Yeah, like an accusation that he was looking for a beard rather than a girlfriend!

by Anonymousreply 40January 10, 2020 2:33 AM

What woman...or man...would claim he tried something inappropriate if he just walked up and said "hi"....Hes HENRY FUCKING CAVILL...if anything it would be the other way around...it would be with me. Hes using it as an excuse to explain his being single. He will eventually come out, but it will be after his career fades...even if its decades.

by Anonymousreply 41January 10, 2020 2:48 AM

Hey, Henry. "Straight" men who fuck too-young girls shouldn't moralize on anyone else.

It'll come out, even if you don't because you're "straight."

by Anonymousreply 42January 10, 2020 2:59 AM

R42, Oh yes there was that too. I'm not against large age-gap relationships in the slightest but his reasoning for dating that girl was pretty dumb. Apparently he thought that her being young would somehow accommodate his hectic, unorthodox lifestyle. Pretty bizarre defense.

by Anonymousreply 43January 10, 2020 3:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 44January 10, 2020 7:31 AM

Something that made me lose quite a lot of respect for Cavill was back in 2016 when he didn't post anything about the Orlando terrorist attack on his social media. He usually does so for most major mass tragedies/terrorist attacks/etc, but I guess with this one he couldn't be bothered. I know that not posting about tragedies like that doesn't mean that you don't care or acknowledge that they occurred, but I would have thought that someone like him--who spent a lot of (if not MOST of) his time in gay bars back when he was younger-- would have taken at least SOME time off his day to pay his respects to a community that welcomed him with open arms and treated him with nothing but love and friendship.

But no. He stayed silent. Whether he is straight or closeted or whatever the fuck he is, it shouldn't give him an excuse to just ignore or turn his head away from the gay community. It almost feels like his embarrassed to be seen with gay people now that he's famous because he fears that he'll be thought of as gay/bi. If he's really concerned about his public image and reputation more than his friends, then he really is a true shitbag.

by Anonymousreply 45January 10, 2020 8:25 AM

I could've sworn he did say something about the Pulse attack. I must have confused him with someone else.

by Anonymousreply 46January 10, 2020 11:11 AM

If he was embarassed, Corey still wouldn't be getting flewed out...

It's more likely that he doesn't view thing as:
pay his respects to a community that welcomed him with open arms and treated him with nothing but love and friendship.

When your part of a majority, not to mention movie star good looking, you're welcome in damn near every community. Why would he appreciate the gays above any other group that fawns over him?

Yep he showed his true colors with that one. If you go through his Instagram, he made posts about other tragedies (an earthquake in Mexico was one time I remember him making a phony video), yet he was radio silent about the Orlando killings (even though he lives in Florida part time). Why post about countries you don’t even live in but can’t make a post about something in your own backyard? Couldn’t possibly be because he’s a pussy and doesn’t want to be attached to “the gay thing”, could it?😏

This is why I have a healthy skepticism when it comes to heterosexuals (or at least those who identify as...). They've been raised to think of homosexuals as degenerates. Those kind of negative messages burrow deep. Their sense of superiority is pretty ingrained.

by Anonymousreply 53January 10, 2020 5:15 PM

Fuck his ungrateful ass!

by Anonymousreply 54January 10, 2020 5:19 PM

He had said multiple times he is about the fame and money $$$ and making alot of it. He's not acting for the art. All of which I have no problem with. But him coming out the closet will cost him roles unfortunately and in turn, have him lose that cash and lose relevancy. It's just how the cookie crumbles. He's very calculated in how he presents himself and would not risk his true gay self being seen. Imo of course Its costing him his soul though.

by Anonymousreply 55January 10, 2020 5:35 PM

Why? He may simply be a shallow person, no soul erosion in motion.

by Anonymousreply 56January 10, 2020 5:38 PM

R55 "He's not acting for the art."

I remember reading the article where he talks about that. It kinda ticked me off a bit. It's like he tries to paint this bullshit rags-to-riches story when it's pretty clear that he was born into a solid upper middle-class background. Maybe not with a silver spoon in his mouth but definitely affluent. He went to the Stowe School, for fuck's sake. And I'm fairly certain that his other 4 brothers also had private educations, with good price-tags. His father was a stockbroker and all his brothers also work in finance, according to him. He could have easily found a job in finance if he weren't to have become famous.

This just shows that he's greedy as well.

by Anonymousreply 57January 10, 2020 10:21 PM

He's greedy because he doesn't work in finance?

by Anonymousreply 58January 10, 2020 10:27 PM

R53 - I don't think that Henry is homophobic, nor is his family but as others have mentioned, he does come from a military background, which means he very well could have come from a conservative background. Of course that doesn't mean anything on its own. I know plenty of conservatives who are perfectly fine with all things gay but of course we don't know what kind of ideas were instilled in him. If he comes from one of those in-flexible conservative families who are all about traditional family, values, marriage etc then surely Cavill must be struggling with being gay if he is in fact closeted.

Look at a young Henry Cavill. He has always been incredibly pretty, he knew that was a gift that could lead to money in the entertainment industry.

In a way I give him props for at least being honest about that aspect. He just looks at the industry as a way to make easy money.
