Ricki Lake Shaves Her Head

It got her some attention.

I don't think it had anything to do with "Hairspray," although that's where she claims it all started.

I know plenty of men and women who have had tons of dye-jobs and even women who also had triple-processes who never had this problem. It is far more likely she just has some sort of disorder like alopecia.

I loved her talk show, she was one of the best

She actually doesn’t look that bad. She has an interesting face, and can get away with this look.

Wouldn't be my first choice, but she does have good bones and is actually quite pretty.

Very pretty face. The buzz cut looks a bit rough, but she'll get the hang of it.

She has a beautiful space. Once this grows in a tad it will look great on her.

What is triple processed hair?

I've always thought she was pretty, even in her Tracy Turnblad days, and I think she pulls it off.

She has great skin.

Should looks like Liz Taylor when she shaved her head. Some women can really pull of this look if they have really good bone structure and nice eyes.

Didn’t that happen 30 years ago? Her adult hair loss couldn’t possibly be because of that.

Ricki said in her IG post that yo-yo dieting and taking birth control pills probably played a part as well.

^ Plus she wore hair extensions after the hair loss started, which can make hair loss worse.

When I was young I destroyed my hair by over bleaching it. It was at the point where it was like elastic. I shaved it all off and began growing my hair back and it was thick and healthy. If your hair is healthy you should be able to come back from a bad dye job. I’ve known women who destroyed their hair and were able to grow it out again healthy.

Good for her. Weight loss, like any other health related change in the body, can definitely affect to how your hair grows and behaves, in some people more than others.

Daily styling for that talk show probably resulted in irreversible traction alopecia if she was wearing weaves and hair systems. Its unfortunate that all the hairs systems that are available now weren't around when she was on Hairspray and during the talk show. No way would they spend the time to style her real hair like that today, she would just wear very expensive lace wigs with human hair.

Although she does go on to blame other (FAR more likely) reasons, I thought it was fucking tacky to initially blame the role that put her on the map.

She is very lucky she can carry the shaved head look off. It looks quite good on her.

She should put a cancer scarf on and start a GoFundMe.

Ricki Lake is as well known for her role in Hairspray as she is for her talk show.

Eldergays associate her with Hairspray, and younger ones knew her first because of the Ricki Lake show.

She put “all that and a bag of chips” on the map!

Hmmm. This may explain why wigs became popular in the 1970s among the sort of women who would have teased the hell out of their hair in the 1960s.
