I want Warren but if it's not meant to be I hope she fights hard for Bernie. I'd say Warren for Bernie's VP but I think that would make people even more afraid to vote for him, same if he, god forbid, picks AOC. I have no problem with her but no one would vote for that ticket other than those who will vote for Bernie no matter who he picks. Trump won by promising people in the swing and red states what Bernie promised and then Trump added in some hate speech because he knew they wanted that in addition to what Bernie was promising. Of course Trump broke every promise except to encourage hate.

She was my first choice, and I donated several times to her campaign...until her comment about Pete's wine cave. I don't hold her and other politicians to unrealistic standards, but her level of hypocrisy surprised me. She has always been against corporate greed and corruption , and that resonated with me, and I ignored the anti-wealth sentiments that underlied that until she criticized Pete. What? Wealthy people can't support their causes in the way in they choose to? She's lost me. She has gone from being my first choice, and now I won't consider her at all.

by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 28, 2019 6:52 AM |
Well, Kamala was my first choice even though I was never delusional enough to think that she would eventually be the nominee. I sure wished so however and never jumped ship. That said, everyone outside of Tulsi (that evil trash of a person) in the Dem race are great thinkers, want the best for our country, have great character or are just pioneering people who desire change that will keep us from fading as power in the way that we have under the current administration. They all fit one or more boxes. I love Warren and want to see her somewhere in the next administration. Same goes for the others but mostly for my favorite. Kamala has the voice, brains and guts that this country desperately needs now. VP, AG, whatever. Love Pete also!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 28, 2019 7:23 AM |

I've never been a fan. I would have voted for her, unenthusiastically, if she had won the nomination. But she did this to herself. I don't understand candidates who can't read the room and who run campaigns that are destined to crash and burn because they can't get out of their own way. I have also been completely turned off by the way she has zeroed in on Pete, who is a better candidate and who has run a great campaign.

The person quoted at R27 makes a good point, that a lot of relatively low information voters pick out some basic, universal traits that give them confidence in the person’s personality, more than policy positions. If they can pick out one or two policy positions, it’s a lot. So often, they get those mixed up, or listen to Republican propaganda and get confused.
But someone that has military service, it doesn’t take a genius to know what that is. Most people respect that. And most of the present field never served. I think Pete is the only one. Tulsi doesn’t count, she’s already out.

Remember when Kamala thought attacking Biden about bussing in the 1970s was a smart move? She managed to alienate a big portion of the non-PC, salt of the earth people, who were driven to Biden all the more, after things settled down. She never really recovered from that, and the take away for most people was that she was a phony, “woke,” bitch.
Many years ago, when Sarah Palin had to debate Biden for the VP slot, at the beginning of the debate, Palin went over to Biden and said, “do you mind if I call you Joe”? Biden had no idea what was going on so he said okay. First thing out of her mouth at the top of the debate was some nasty play on Biden’s first name. Managed to make herself look like a petty cunt in about two minutes, and permanently branded herself that way for the rest of the campaign.
That’s basically what happened with Kamala, and it’s happening now with Warren. Moral of the story, don’t think being a bitch is going to make people love you. It isn’t. Stick to the policies and don’t try to make personal attacks. People just think people that do that are cunts that aren’t up to par, so they attack others in the hope you won’t notice. People notice.
And these days with the internet, bashing another candidate leads inevitably to people opening up your own can of worms and looking inside. Hard.

We have to focus on Biden (unless someone really spectacular breaks out). He's the one the Russiapublicans were afraid of enough to try and trash. Yeah, he's old-old (though only 3 1/2 years older than Trump). But people feel safe with him; he's a known quantity.
But because of his age, his VP must also be a known quantity (one heartbeat away...). It may have to be one of the other POTUS candidates just because they are fresh in people's distracted minds.

by Anonymous | reply 96 | December 31, 2019 4:34 AM |
R92, Stacey might be appealing to some, but not appealing to the masses. I hate to be frank - but I will be. Physical attractiveness is a big deal in politics. You can can be a lot of things - old, bald, etc......but NOT obese or lacking in needed dental work - and not lacking in polish. It just doesn't work and never has. Abrams seems to be a nice woman, but her appeal is limited to very few. her lack of polish and gloss just will not fly for those who Biden needs to garner votes from. Kamala is gorgeous, brilliant, well-spoken and can appeal to masses. Kamala's issue seemed to be that she appealed more to other minorities than African Americans. Biden already has African Americans in the bag. Kamala cements the others and leaves a beautiful, polished package for the ticket. She also brings the fire-power that Biden lacks. He needs her voice when the debates come along. he doesn't need Abrams at all - what is she going to bring the ticket? Biden-Kamala is it. Period.

Kamala is from California and Biden needs midwestern states to win the electoral college.
If Presidents were elected by popular votes, it wouldn’t matter. But the states Hillary lost that we need to win are in the Midwest.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | December 31, 2019 6:12 AM |
R101, I hear you - but WHO exactly is going to appeal to those states? Biden's running mate MUST be a woman or you stand to alienate many voters. We know that the last election was rigged anyway and that the electoral college is a racket. We can't change that. Hillary chose a terrible running mate. He really didn't appeal to anyone. As much as I hate that queen Mike Pence - he cemented the evangelical vote for Trump. Kamala does have a following in the South and also appeals to white blue collar men as well as independents. Kamala is fresh and new in all the ways that Biden is not. Kamala speaks eloquently and has really ignited a following from her amazing Senatorial grilling of Trump fucktards (Jabba-the-Hut Barr, Rapist Kavanaugh and that little opossum Sessions for a start..). Pete is also a possibility, but a much lesser one. he doesn't round out the ticket in a way that helps Biden. All Pete voters would also vote Biden once he is the nom.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | December 31, 2019 6:36 AM |
Getting votes in the South is pointless in red states that will never turn blue. There’s too much emphasis on pleasing black voters in red states we can never carry. Most of those states are never even close.
The states Hillary lost in the Midwest were states that Obama was able to carry. I think a lot of the issue there is that those states are fairly conservative and they aren’t anxious for a woman President.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | December 31, 2019 6:55 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 107 | December 31, 2019 7:44 AM |
Fuck off, R107. That's the problem; anyone who speaks the truth which is against the "Holy Doctrine" is labeled a traitor. Jesus Christ, do you even read, or are you one of the may idiots who have to rationalize her ELECTORAL COLLEGE loss by making false assertions." Oh, the US has determined the there was Russian interference, so that must mean that she actually won the Midwest states." No, she ignored their concerns. That's why she lost, sweetie. Read and understand.

R 107. If the Dems want to win this year, they cannot take the same states for granted.

The feathers on her native headdress?
by Anonymous | reply 110 | December 31, 2019 8:01 AM |
You fuck off, r108. You can't change the fact that Hillary won the popular vote by a huge margin, a larger margin than any man historically except for Obama '08.
Yeah, she lost the electoral college and thus the Presidency. Possibly for reasons you cite, but definitely also because of the Russian influence. And not one of the people in those states is better off because Trump won. Like virtually the entire country, he's been a disaster for them.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | December 31, 2019 8:17 AM |
Buttigieg/Harris is good. She brings all her star quality, he brings the midwest.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | December 31, 2019 8:18 AM |
The polls are fact, not opinion. Black voters are not into Harris, and are not going to suddenly become highly enthusiastic if she were named as a running mate.
This mindset of black voters as petulant children throwing temper tantrums gets old.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | December 31, 2019 4:05 PM |
"Yeah, she lost the electoral college and thus the Presidency."
And she could have won had she won the Midwest states that she ignored. It's just that simple. Even you are able to comprehend that. I hope.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | December 31, 2019 4:27 PM |
What annoys me is that a lot of so-called liberal and woke white democrats always like to lay the the foundation early and often that it is somehow the fault of black democrats when democratic candidates don't win. Again, worry about the Bernie Bros and the Sarandon's and the third party voters. Focus your attention on them for a change. Focus on who they like and who appeals to them. Focus on their voting patterns in the swing states. Black voters are going to be just fine.

So many great posts.
What needs to be done is this.
Pick an electable candidate and back him/her up. Sorry, there's just no hers. And I love women.
We have to get that fat pig out. At any cost.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | December 31, 2019 5:16 PM |
True, r114. I'm agnostic on Harris as a running mate, but to say that Biden would need Harris to win the South!? Biden is doing well in the South all by himself. In fact, Kamala did poorly in the South (and everywhere else). She doesn't have broad support from Black voters. Biden does. If Biden is the nominee, he'll probably choose a woman (possibly a woman of color) as his running mate. That doesn't mean he'll go for Harris or should go for Harris.

One of the most important rules of politics and running for office in particular is not to demean or stigmatize others- it implies they are less than. Now Trump by a perfect storm (last straw was Comey's reopening of the email bullshit) was an exception and continues to be. That's because his appeal is to the minority of Americans who remain in the white only world in combination with religious bigotry. Warren should not imply wealthy people including donors (which are different from corporations and PACs) have no part in selecting Presidents and other implied judgements. I am one of those people- wealthy, progressive, who thinks that my "class" is under-taxed and the corporate sector let go scott free- Citizens United a scourge on our democratic system. This does not mean I think people do not have a perfect right to accumulate and even inherit wealth. Heck, I want to secure those I love as well. There is a happy medium- a fair distribution of wealth. My father made his pile in the 50s/60's and 70's when the top marginal tax rate never went below 75% (and as high as 90%). He retired in 1985 a couple years after Reagan took it below 30%. He made enough to secure the financial future of his children and then some if handled responsibly. And he and my Mom created a trust to benefit their principle philanthropic interests as well- equal to the amount any one of their children will inherit in trust or outright. His net worth including trusts was about 50 million at peak before wealth transfer began to happen. His counterparts 20 years after his retirement (CEOs at large financial institutions) catapulted to the 250 million and up range within that time- and more. His counterpart 10 years after his retirement was compensated at at least 10 times his peak, and taxed at much less.
So you see- you can be wealthy, and responsible, and philanthropic, and liberal. It is not all one way or the other. And EW seems to communicate that sentiment, Bernie too- which while not nearly as obnoxious as the bile coming from Trump is still offensive. Pete picked it up right away. I will of course vote for either EW or Bernie in a heartbeat, but damn if I do not prefer candidates who know better (that there are good people like my Dad) who earned their wealth (or even inherited) and use (used) it wisely. AND ARE NOT GREEDY. Trump has made it possible for my sibling and myself to inherit more- we did not want it, and we do not need it. But neither do we want to give up all our legacy from our parents- in part because it helps us secure the future for those we love, politicians we favor and charities we cherish.

P.S. I too like Stacey Abrams more than any of the women who have been in the Dem race thus far. She goes after corruption and lousy law rather than people (although that includes corrupt pols.)
by Anonymous | reply 122 | December 31, 2019 6:49 PM |
Lol, r116. You think white people who are MORE privileged and less likely to be hurt by a Trump presidency are MORE likely to be swayed to vote for any dem candidate? Yeah, good luck with that.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | December 31, 2019 7:35 PM |
Stacey Abrams couldn't even win an election in Georgia. You think she's going to bring out the votes in Michigan and Ohio? Try again.

I posted this last summer. I live in Virginia. If the nominee is anyone but Biden, then Virginia is in play in spite of our newly minted "Blue" status. I still think we're Purple, but Democrats do control everything now.
Pete is my #1 and I would love him to be President, but it's clear that Joe is the guy and that hasn't changed. You Bernie and Warren stans are going to need to accept the truth.

Biden wants to pick Sally Yates as his running mate, but there are conversations within his campaign that he might need to pick a black running mate. If he wins the nomination, then they'll assess if he's strong enough with black voters by himself that he doesn't need to select a black person. I think he's more likely to choose a black man, since there are far more acceptable options available to him.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | January 1, 2020 4:49 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 141 | January 1, 2020 6:43 PM |
He needs to pick one of the other Dem Presidential candidates as a running mate. He’s likely to die in office, so the voters need to know that his VP is someone they’re familiar with and capable of taking on the Presidential role. Someone like Sally Yates is a nobody who voters barely even recognize.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | January 1, 2020 7:53 PM |
As much as I think Old Joe is too far along age-wise and out of touch with the modern Democratic voter, if he's the one to get the Orange Dumpster out of the WH then so be it. We can have a cool hipster VP and cabinet, while at same time saving SCOTUS and preparing the New Dem party (and the country, for that matter) for a continued progressive shift leftward.
Of course there are better candidates (Mayor Pete, Harris, Warren) but we must be rid of the Repubs at all costs. Joe will satisfy and as mentioned likely to be a real lame duck should he get a 2nd term. A strong VP will be more of a co-President at that point, so that choice will be misson-critical.

No she didn't. That's politics in the 21st century. Everyone talks shit about everyone else, and then all is forgotten and forgiven when it comes time to pick a Veep and a cabinet.
If Biden ascertains that he needs a female Veep (and he does) and a woman of color (and he does), he knows what a good choice Kamala would be.
