FX Developing Limited Series Based on Stephen King’s ‘Carrie’
[quote]Following a successful partnership on Fargo, FX and MGM Television are developing a limited series based on Stephen King‘s classic horror novel Carrie.
[quote]Though it’s still very early in the development process and there’s no script yet, sources say that this time around, telekinetic teen Carrie White will likely be played by either a trans performer or an actress of color rather than a cis white woman, as in past adaptations.
Should be a hit on DL, no doubt.

Will it be a musical? It really is due for a revival. Think Glee meets AHS!

You're kidding right? Only the original is appreciated here. This too will fail.

They already tried this with the 2002 version with Angela Bettis and Patricia Clarkson; it was intended to be a series but it never got picked up. I recently bought the Blu-ray that has it paired with "The Rage: Carrie 2" as a double feature, and while Bettis and Clarkson are great in it, everyone else isn't, and the special effects are truly horrid. Perhaps they can do better now, but I'm not holding my breath.

So if it's a trans person playing the role, will they look like a guy for most of the show and have a guy's name? I am sorry, but there is no way in Hell Margaret White would allow a son of hers to dress in female clothing or even have it (or makeup) in the house. So is he going to hide a whole collection of clothes somewhere, go to school, get dressed in the bathroom and become "Carrie"? And also, how would the whole first period in the locker room part play out?
I just don't see how it can work. You'd have to change the story around a hell of a lot. And in that case, why even bother calling it Carrie?

Why not both? Blossom would be up for it, I'm sure.

Why not bring back all the original actors and do something where Carrie and her mother have been resurrected? That’s the only way I would watch.

They won't do it right because Millennials are terrified of being uncool. They'll make her a pretty cheerleader and her mom a hot milf.

So if they're making Carrie trans, I am imagining Margaret White constantly slapping around a little twink saying "You are not a girl! You are a man. So act like it, you godless sodomite!" Then the prom will be him stepping out as "his true self" for the first time like in his Caitlyn Jenner "Call me Carrie" moment in a very dramatic way.

Gym class. Chris Hargensen will ask "why doesn't Carrie get dressed with the rest of us?" Then she and a few others will sneak over to wherever she is in the locker room and see a dick. That'll be the "period" moment of this version I bet.

Chloe Grace Moretz was way too pretty to be Carrie. Angela Bettis did a good job playing Carrie but Sissy can't be beat.

If the trans person is playing a TRANS CHARACTER - CARRIE - then a trans Carrie seems deeply anti-trans and cruel. Carrie is both a victim and a hideous monster. That is not a woke image for trans.

Monique and Gabourey Sidibe should re-unite for this. Mariah as the gym teacher.

Trans Carrie, as other have stated, would make no sense with Margaret as a mother. Is she going to be seeing her dresses at night while her mother prays and slip them into a backpack and change into them at school?
A black Carrie would make more sense and at least give us the chance to see a titan like Monique, Viola Davis, or Octavia Spencer sink her teeth into Margaret.

I read it won't be a white girl playing Carrie but a black girl or a transgirl.
I suppose you can do Carrie with a black girl (frankly it would be better if HW decides to adapt novels of the many great afroamerican writers intead of changing the race of a white character) without a problem, but a transgirl is very very problematic.
The first period scene is iconic and a big part of the story, but how can you be openly trans with a mother like that, she is ultrareligious, there's no way she let trans Carrie were girl clothes.
I don't know, but this sound like typical woke idea and this kind of films end being total disasters

Could Margaret be sort of like Aunt Martha in Sleepaway Camp? Maybe she finds out her son is gay somehow so she forces him to dress up like a girl because "anything is better than the sin of homosexuality." That is the only way I can see it maybe working. But I don't see how they can pull off something like that without pissing off a bunch of people. It is too big of a risk in my opinion and it wouldn't be worth it.

R34, Insidious: Chapter 2 did something similar to that but it was 6, almost 7 years ago and a lot has changed in even that short time. I wouldn't dare attempt it now. By making Carrie trans, you are just begging for trouble.

This universe dear. Most of the kids “transitioning” these days would otherwise grow up to be gay or lesbian (80%). You’re really not paying attention to this shit are you? Better a live daughter than a dead son is the catchphrase.

Look up Hunter Schaefer. Dad is a pastor. Hunter came out as gay at around age 11. Then at 13 he’s suddenly trans and a “girl”.
There’s an FTM who was raised in a fundamentalist evangelical household, Mallory Ortberg, who writes the Dear Prudence column. She was a lesbian in spite of her strict religious upbringing and pastor dad... until a few years ago. Now she’s “Daniel” and married to a man who claims he’s a woman. There’s another FTM out there, evangelical, went to one of those bible colleges, now thinks she’s a man because it’s easier to be trans (bc you can’t help it) than being gay.

R47: A cathphrase for who? A couple of lunatics doesn't make things different, most people, even the most tolerant have a lot of trouble dealing with a trans son of daughter. But that wasn't even the matter, we are talking about a very conservative religious lunatic, Carrie's mother would never let his son wear girl clothes, period

[quote]A cathphrase for who?
The UK trans charity Mermaids. The one preaching this backwards shit. The one run by an insane woman who bragged about getting her gay son’s penis cut off when he was 16– that his junk was so small thanks to puberty blockers they didn’t have enough tissue to invert it. They’re hosting “awareness” seminars throughout the British police force on trans issues like boys can only like GI Joe and girls can only like Barbie.
Wake the fuck up.

Going with people of color for Carrie and Margaret could still work and they wouldn't have to change a word of the story. The trans thing would make absolutely no sense. I guess just casting a trans person and still playing her as cis would give Carrie that "other" kind of quality, which could work. I just want a good actress in the role. That Chloe Moretz is cute, but she wasn't right for Carrie.
