Has Lisa ever discussed what is was like to waste her best bangin' years on a closeted husband? I sense she is angry, but that's an un-Christian emotion which makes the anger even harder to deal with. Is Steve out and are they still friendly? Who pressured young Lisa to marry Steve, her parents or the church?
Lisa Whelchel and her gay ex-husband

It was her father:
Lisa, a born-again Christian, was just 25 when her father decided it was time for her to get married. He even chose Steve, the much-older associate pastor of their church, to be her suitor.
In her 2001 book, “The Facts of Life,” Lisa wrote that she felt pressured to marry Steve after their engagement was announced in front of the entire congregation – even though she says she hadn’t accepted any of his proposals. Feeling she had no way out, Lisa went through with the wedding, despite admitting she was never attracted to Steve. They tied the knot just two months after her hit TV show ended in 1988.
The family moved to Lantana, Texas, from Sherman Oaks, Calif., in 2006.
“Lisa and Steve’s marriage was doomed even before they said their ‘I do’s’ and it just got worse as time went by,” said a family friend.
“Over the years, she realized she never loved Steve the way she should have as his wife and it affected the way she treated him.”
Lisa finally filed for divorce in Denton County, Texas, in December 2011. But in a strange twist, the records have been sealed and only a handful of the couple’s closest friends and family members even know about the split!
While no public records of the divorce exist, The ENQUIRER obtained property documents which show that the couple started the process to change the ownership status of their marital home in December 2011.
And in May, the deed for a home Steve bought in north Dallas shows he made the purchase as a “single man.” Lisa currently lives in a three-bedroom apartment only a few minutes away.
“Their divorce has been in the works for years,” added the family insider.“Lisa waited to file until their youngest child turned 19 and went away to college.
“It was a quick, non-contested divorce, and it took only months to finalize.”
The 25th season of “Survivor” kicked off on Sept. 19, and Lisa has said it was the hardest thing she’s ever done – and that she wouldn’t do it again!
“She’s hoping that being on the show will kick-start her career,” added the insider. “She wants to move back to L.A. full time – as a single woman – and get back into acting.”

I remember when the LWT would post links to her blogs, and before Lisa and her husband separated, it was clear she was on the crazy train heading for a mental breakdown (locking herself in her prayer closet?!).

I hope not since she is engaged again. I hope she has a happy marriage this time. It would not surprise me to find out she is bi, though. She does ping a lot at times.

How can she have an ex-husband since their precious Bible doesn't allow divorce? How? How?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 18, 2019 5:08 PM |
This famous and gorgeous Hollywood star was forced into an arranged marriage. She has to harbor lots of anger, which is a complicated emotion when you otherwise love your father.

Nobody held a gun to her head. She made her own choices. Sheesh!

Well, she has three children. So either she tolerated him three times or she closed her eyes and thought of Jesus.

When you're raised in a fundamentalist Christian household, the kids are essentially brain-washed and that inculcated fear and shame and blind obedience carries over into adulthood. Lisa was essentially a Duggar girl.

Lisa wasn’t attracted to her husband so she had to use Creative Erection, in bookstores now.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 22, 2019 2:21 AM |
R17 I was a very bitchy and assertive child. And my parents were occasional churchgoers, on average once a month. If I'd been raised by fundamentalists, I'd never have made it to kindergarten.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 22, 2019 2:22 AM |
OP, if you think anger is an "un-Christian" emotion, you have no idea what being a Christian is.

by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 22, 2019 2:43 AM |
Most girls raised in fundamentalist families are inculcated with the belief that anger is an unChristian emotion.

Lisa is very pro-gay and even blasted churches over their homophobia. She said she understood why gays have turned away from church.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 22, 2019 2:49 AM |
"I think it would be surprising to a lot of people that, unless I’m just totally not aware of it, Hollywood has really respected my beliefs. I’m sure there were some parts that I wasn’t offered, but that’s OK. I don’t feel like I had any backlash because of it.”
She takes responsibility for her beliefs and opinions, and asked for a few reasonable compromises when she was on TFoL. If only all religious performers were like her, rather than whining about persecution and playing the martyr.

by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 22, 2019 3:06 AM |
A good friend in high school was. She was trapped, I was trapped as a gayling, so we shared a bond.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | December 22, 2019 3:09 AM |
I’m not R22 but every blog on Patheos written by an ex fundamentalist woman has posts about the pressure on women to conform to gender stereotypes. Part of that they say was being a perma smiling, happy, obedient, “positive” woman. Anger was not something women were ever to express or show.

I've shared my Lisa Whelchel story here before, so forgive me if it's a repeat for you. My husband's parents were very good friends of Lisa's aunt and uncle. Several years ago, right after Lisa and her family moved back to Texas, her aunt and uncle celebrated their 50th anniversary with a huge party, to which my husband and I accompanied his mother. Lisa, Steve, and the kids were all there. Lisa spent most of her time visiting with family and friends. I really wanted to speak to her, but there was always a circle of people around her. I was basically a stranger to everyone there but my husband and his mother, so I was too uncomfortable to approach her. But from a distance, she seemed to be very down-to-earth and personable. I don't remember getting a gay vibe from Steve, but again I didn't interact with them. I just observed them from across the room.

That's awful what happened to Lisa. Very sad. I'm sorry her holier-than-thou family screwed up her life. The shame in this belongs to her parents for manipulating Lisa.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | December 22, 2019 6:53 PM |
Haven is the older daughter, R55. She bears a strong resemblance to Lisa's mom.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | December 22, 2019 7:02 PM |
Sorry to hear about how Lisa was used and manipulated.
Perhaps her parents or their religious community or even her ex-husband chose to ignore the signs. Perhaps they believe that getting married suddenly turns someone heterosexual. Perhaps this guy decided to suppress his own feelings. Whatever it was, Lisa ended up suffering and being used. She's the victim here.
I hope she finds true love and happiness.

In celebration of the Fourth of July holiday, I thought I’d share a personal story of freedom.
Oh, god, you're killing us already, lady!!! Please, make it sto...
I was recently tempted in an area that I thought was behind me.
Wha? Without the use of the Bible (unabridged or Readers' Digest version), she has instantly redeemed herself. Now, what could she be talking about? Our first three thoughts, in this order, were 1.) drugs, 2.) lesbianism and 3.) well, we really only had those two thoughts.
It started with a dream. I woke up the next morning and said to myself, "Where did that come from?" I knew it came straight from hell but I was surprised that my subconscious let it get through to my dream life.
Speaking of straight from hell, this entry has gone in record time from terrible to terribly intriguing to no one gives a shit about anyone else's dreams. Still, what could she be talking about?
From that point on, old feelings began to resurface in an area that I had been successful at subduing for years. I didn't want the feelings but they grew stronger and stronger. I could look at them objectively and see the lie and reject the promptings but the compulsion was so strong. I began to contemplate ways to give in a little to the temptation without actually "sinning." One idea, in particular, seemed perfect. On the outside it looked perfectly innocent but I knew on the inside it was a step down a path that would only lead to trouble.
