BAD casting Sam is way to muscley

Newman is rolling in his grave.
They couldn't find an American actor to play him? that has to hurt, even from beyond.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 17, 2019 12:03 PM |
I hope he's going to take care of that malignant-looking thing on his face beforehand.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 17, 2019 3:16 PM |
Sam is much more handsome imo and also nationality has nothing to do with talent as an actor. Only an American could portray this role? BS.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 3, 2020 3:46 PM |
Not even close.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 3, 2020 3:58 PM |
He could have played Paul. Alas, this is about 20 years old.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 3, 2020 4:03 PM |
Paul Newman was one of the handsomest, really beautiful men I have ever seen. Beautiful as a god when young, gorgeous when middle aged, still handsome as an old man.
Heughan - meh. He's very attractive but Paul Newman? I don't see it.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 3, 2020 4:12 PM |
Yes R7 Paul and the VERY young Marlon Brando had faces that looked like Greek statues. Just beautiful!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 3, 2020 4:16 PM |
Sam Heughan is a good actor with an excellent range of talent. Actors, through illusion, seek to convince their audience. Give him a chance. Muscles come and go. Actors prepare for their roles, physically, emotionally and technically. Removing a mole like the one on Sam's face is a complex procedure requiring plastic surgery and healing time. Follow up may require scar revision which adds more time. An actor is not required to become an exact replica of the person they seek to portray. Let's wait to see if he convinces us.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 29, 2020 10:11 PM |
Shit they will let anyone play Paul Newman these days.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 29, 2020 10:15 PM |
Sam continues to be cast in the role of much, MUCH more attractive men than himself. He is a poor Jamie and will be a terrible Paul.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 29, 2020 10:15 PM |
It's a cameo part. The movie is about Patricia Neal and Roald Dahl.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 29, 2020 10:15 PM |
Heughan couldn’t act his way out of the Lincoln tunnel with a map and a flare gun. Poor casting choice.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 29, 2020 10:22 PM |
[quote]Sam Heughan IS Paul Newman?
In his dreams...
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 29, 2020 10:37 PM |
Sam Heughan Is John Philip Law.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 29, 2020 10:40 PM |
R6 I had that magazine cover hanging on my wall in high school. Matthew looks gorgeous there.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 29, 2020 10:44 PM |
Who plays Pat? Has to be better than Glenda bloody Jackson in that awful TV movie about her.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 29, 2020 10:45 PM |
Are you kidding. Newman was stunning. The Sam guy is handsome for sure, but not stunning.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 29, 2020 10:47 PM |
Newman's good looks came from his blue eyes and pouty mouth. I don't see Heughan playing him.
But then again, Olivia Colman is playing Queen Elizabeth, so I guess looks and demeanor need not be considered these days when casting a real person.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 29, 2020 10:52 PM |
[quote] And DL asplode.
I love you, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 29, 2020 10:53 PM |
Keeley Hawes as Neal.
"The Patricia Neal Story" was terrible.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 29, 2020 10:57 PM |
Sam’s short little nose is no comparison to Paul’s beautiful long nose. They look nothing alike.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 29, 2020 10:58 PM |
[quote] Keeley Hawes as Neal.
Too whispery. Neal was a ballsy actress, not a shy wallflower.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 29, 2020 11:10 PM |
From Diana Dors to Patricia Neal.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 29, 2020 11:15 PM |
why are gays the most unsupportive group of people to their own but always want to keep everything just among themselves?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 29, 2020 11:15 PM |
Keep what amongst ourselves?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 29, 2020 11:16 PM |
They should have stuck some blue contacts on James Norton and had him do it. At least he has that same air of sexuality that Newman had.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 29, 2020 11:22 PM |
Norton looks like a potato compared to Newman.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 29, 2020 11:25 PM |
[quote]Norton looks like a potato compared to Newman.
He's closer than Heughan who looks like a pasty white Brit.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 29, 2020 11:33 PM |
So sub one pasty White Brit for another?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 29, 2020 11:36 PM |
another fucking Brit?
ENOUGH
when will this trend of hollyweird casting average Brits to play big roles end? There are so many Americans they could use
imagine the outrage if in the next 20 years they do a film about queen Lizzy and they pick an American? It would be panned right away
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 29, 2020 11:43 PM |
sam whoziwhutzit? ummm, no.....
R7 the first few times i saw McConaughey, i kept feeling like i was watching Paul Newman. he had the same kind of charisma, good looks, etc. everytime i would say to someone "he is our generation's Paul Newman", they would think i was crazy.
i personally think M. has proven a better actor overall, but seems to have lost his looks along the way.
is he anorexic, or just a into drugs?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 29, 2020 11:53 PM |
^sorry, that was R6
*wishes for an -edit- function
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 29, 2020 11:59 PM |
Yep. I thought the same.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 30, 2020 12:10 AM |
[Quote] imagine the outrage if in the next 20 years they do a film about queen Lizzy and they pick an American?
Or a film about Maggie Thatcher with an American in the lead...
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 30, 2020 12:14 AM |
no on McConaughey, I can't stand him. I loved Paul Newman. Sam is fine
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 30, 2020 5:14 PM |
If this were the 1990s, they could have cast Jason Priestley.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 30, 2020 10:41 PM |
Sam will do fine and it's minor role in the film anyway
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 31, 2020 3:15 PM |
Casting Brits is as old as Gone With the Wind; get over it.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 31, 2020 10:56 PM |
Is Sam ok playing a gay character?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 1, 2020 12:16 AM |
So another story about Patricia Neal? Why?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 1, 2020 1:49 AM |
Why Roald Dahl, why?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 1, 2020 1:50 AM |
R41 he's fine playing a closeted character--less of a stretch
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 1, 2020 2:28 AM |
Closet to closet, is that it? By the way were Roald and Paul fucking? I doubt Roald was a bottom.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 1, 2020 2:37 AM |
Paul was circumcised. Sam is not.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 1, 2020 2:43 AM |
R46 surely there can't be any scenes where such a distinction would matter although Paul was born in 1925 so perhaps not circumcized, unless he was a Jew.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 1, 2020 2:47 AM |
[quote] Paul was born in 1925 so perhaps not circumcized, unless he was a Jew.
His father was Jewish and Newman claimed to have no religion to which he was devoted, but considered himself Jewish.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 1, 2020 3:00 AM |
Only your mom makes you a Jew to begin with.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 1, 2020 3:06 AM |
I lost interest in the show after the episode he got raped ( actually it was the only one I watched) and it was apparent he was never going to do full frontal nudity. Did I miss anything ?
If he is going to play Newman he is going to have to do something about his receding hairline.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 1, 2020 3:08 AM |
Hey did they give Patricia Neal to Keeley Hawes instead of an American actress?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 1, 2020 3:16 AM |
What R5 said.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 1, 2020 3:27 AM |
side note: who is America's Keeley Hawes?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 1, 2020 3:38 AM |
The listing for An Unquiet Life - terrible title - on IMDB shows a small cast.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | February 1, 2020 4:12 AM |
Can Sam do an American accent?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | February 1, 2020 4:32 AM |
there will never be another Paul
by Anonymous | reply 56 | February 1, 2020 4:57 AM |
Yes, Sam can do an American accent.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | February 1, 2020 9:26 AM |
What rape episode R50?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 1, 2020 6:14 PM |
Outlander, R50. It was brutal.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | February 1, 2020 6:29 PM |
You queens hating on Sam for not being handsome enough to play Greek statue looking Paul Newman are the same ones who’ve generated 10s of thread on Sam to discuss his face and body. Give me a break!
by Anonymous | reply 60 | February 1, 2020 6:38 PM |
R33 M was gorgeous in the wedding planner and around that period then he lost his collagen as he aged and sacrificed whatever little he had left to the Dallas boys club when he lost all that weight. He needs to call Brad’s doctor for some light filler.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | February 1, 2020 6:48 PM |
No, we're not.
And most thread subjects aren't as good looking as Paul Newman (Colton Haynes is an exception), so your point is moot anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | February 1, 2020 6:49 PM |
I think Sam is very handsome. But he SO not Paul Newman. What an odd pick.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | February 1, 2020 6:57 PM |
Will they have a scene where Pat visits Mother Dolores Hart while Mother is catching up on her Oscar movies before filling out her ballot?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | February 1, 2020 6:58 PM |
R62 please Paul Newman was good looking and had beautiful eyes but he wasn’t thaaat good looking, he wasn’t Brando or Redford good looking. I would say that most of the instagram stunners posted on dL are equal to or better looking than Paul Newman was. People just hold Hollywood Golden age stars to a very high level. And You know what, they deserve to be on that high level but not because of their looks, because their personalities and charisma were orders of magnitude higher than today’s average star! These guys lived real lives, some had fought in war and they brought all of that to the screen and to their characters. Even the women, Ava Gardner, Garbo, etc..they weren’t just beautiful, they were real like us! Brad Pitt is gorgeous but he hadn’t lived life until his marriage to Angie and his children. Same thing with Clooney. Too bad they’re too old now. Stars today are airbrushed versions of the old stars..very hollow! Anyway, Sam is gorgeous enough to play Paul but certainly doesn’t have Paul’s charisma or presence...which is really the problem here.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | February 1, 2020 7:16 PM |
Nah. Paul Newman had incredible bone structure. His bone structure and those eyes shone through even when his hair went to shit and he was "styled" in a dishevelled way. Most ment don't have that, including Redford.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | February 1, 2020 7:24 PM |
That face held on much longer than most any man.
