She's ridiculous.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 16, 2019 1:45 AM |
She was right the first time and never should have apologized.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 16, 2019 1:45 AM |
Greta was right, especially corrupt politicians. Say what you mean, Greta. Trump said he could shoot a guy on Fifth Avenue and would still be elected. So you're entitled to your opinion too, Greta. But don't make a scary face when you are at it.

Bullying a teenage girl.
That sounds about right for you, OP.

Foolish Dems like R11 use this child as a human shield because Al Gore's predictions flopped so hard.
Sadly, they will be the last to realize these tactics have turned the movement into a laughingstock.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 16, 2019 2:37 AM |
It looks like it has similar meaning in the two languages, with execution in both cases being a way to hold someone accountable.

I don't understand how anti-violence is under the school strike movement umbrella. Different cause/issue, right?

Al Gore dose not embarrass me, he won the Nobel prize and you would not be chatting on this board without him.
And please spare me the invented the intent thing snark remark. Truth be told, he is the one who made the intent accessible to people outside of college basements. He wrote the High Performance Computing Act of 1991 which made it available to the general public by creating the infrastructure that never existed before that.

Major states snub calls for climate action as U.N. summit wraps up
MADRID (Reuters) - A handful of major states resisted pressure on Sunday to ramp up efforts to combat global warming as a U.N. climate summit ground to a close, angering smaller countries and a growing protest movement that is pushing for emergency action.
The COP25 talks in Madrid were viewed as a test of governments' collective will to heed the advice of science to cut greenhouse gas emissions more rapidly, in order to prevent rising global temperatures from hitting irreversible tipping points.
But the conference, in its concluding draft, endorsed only a declaration on the "urgent need" to close the gap between existing emissions pledges and the temperature goals of the landmark 2015 Paris climate agreement - an outcome U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called disappointing.
Brazil, China, Australia, Saudi Arabia and the United States had led resistance to bolder action, delegates said.
The negotiations became mired in disputes over the rules that should govern international carbon trading, favored by wealthier countries to reduce the cost of cutting emissions. Brazil and Australia were among the main holdouts, delegates said, and the summit deferred big decisions on carbon markets.
Smaller nations had also hoped to win guarantees of financial aid to cope with climate change.

[quote] A reader reminded me that the leader of the Khmer Rouge, Pol Pot, embraced the same ideals we are listening to in the rising trend of socialism and climate change. Pot came to admire the tribes in Cambodia’s rural northeast. He saw these people were self-sufficient and lived on the goods they produced through subsistence farming. He embraced Marxism and saw modern society as evil, as we are hearing once again in the climate change movement.

She has apologized for her comment and walked back from the violent implication. She might know better what to say if she weren't on strike against being educated, so there's that.

She is moronic (well intended though) and is setting back the climate change movement. Articulate, charismatic young people are needed to be leading this important role - Greta should just quietly join protest marches. She has had no fuck ups in two days.

Crimes against Mother Nature are ecoterrorism and should get the death penalty. Hell, I think it should be 1,000% legal to execute people on the spot for littering. I am not fucking kidding about that.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 16, 2019 2:05 PM |
Non-violence has failed to do shit about the attacks on the environment. It will continue to fail to change anything. It is time to weaponize environmentalism, and by “Weaponize”, I mean that literally. I support the use of force against ecoterrorism, even if we need another fucking Holocaust to do it.
Greta needs to take back her apology and double down on her demands for the death penalty for ecoterrorism.

Must be awful to be R58.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | December 16, 2019 2:37 PM |
We have long since passed the point where non-violence is an effective solution because it obviously isn’t. If it was, there would be no pollution or littering at all. There are anti-littering laws in states, cities, counties, and towns in the US, but they are not being properly enforced. Enough is enough. The world cannot take another generation of this abuse.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | December 16, 2019 2:41 PM |
We need to do to polluters and litterers what the Nazis did to Jews. Except this time they deserve it. There’s a huge difference between killing people because of who they are and killing people for doing something bad on a scale that affects THE ENTIRE FUCKING PLANET AND EVERY GODDAMN LIVING THING ON IT!
Drive an SUV or a pickup truck? You’re an ecoterrorist. Throw garbage in the streets? You’re an ecoterrorist. Dump toxic chemicals in large bodies of water? You’re an ecoterrorist.
Avenge the rape of Mother Nature by every means necessary.
Sieg heil, Greta. Sieg motherfucking heil. It is time to put the “war” in “Social Justice Warrior.” This is a war. Wars for social justice are always just wars, always have been just wars, and will always be just wars. Social justice is worth going to war with.

She could have flown and been there in 60 minutes like normal people do.

Greta Thunberg Documentary Set At Hulu, Chronicling Climate Activist’s Global Rise
Sixteen-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg is the subject of Greta (working title), an original documentary that will premiere on Hulu in 2020. The documentary is produced by Cecilia Nessen and Frederik Heinig via B-Reel Films and directed by Nathan Grossman.
The logline: In August 2018, Thunberg, a 15-year-old student in Sweden, starts a school strike for the climate. Her question for adults: if you don’t care about my future on earth, why should I care about my future in school? Within months, her strike evolves into a global movement. The quiet teenage girl on the autism spectrum becomes a world-famous activist.
The team behind Greta has been following Thunberg from her early school strike in Stockholm all the way to parliaments and massive international protests, documenting her mission to make the world understand the urgency of the climate crisis. According to sources, Hulu boarded the project awhile back and had been involved behind the scenes while deals were being made.
Thunberg recently was named Person of the Year, the youngest individual to get the recognition. She became a household name in the U.S. during her tour of North America this past fall. She attended rallies, met with world leaders and spoke at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York City. Her UN speech, in which she criticized world leaders for their inaction on the climate crisis, got international attention, and her interactions with President Donald Trump went viral. She recently made another big splash on the international scene with her appearance at the COP25 Climate Change conference.

All of the above smelling totally pre-planned and choreographed.

by Anonymous | reply 71 | December 17, 2019 6:33 AM |
I know that she needs platform so it's inevitable that she needs to align herself with those Hollywood celebs. But I'd have even more respect for her if she's pointing out that they're the ones who are doing the most in contributing to the environmental problems, what with their extravagant lifestyle and endless air traveling. It'd be refreshing to see an activist who refuse to rely on celebs as her mouthpiece, and is even willing to challenge their hypocrisy.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | December 23, 2019 3:48 AM |
I'm ok with this if she includes not just politicians but also their corrupt ugly families.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | December 23, 2019 4:03 AM |
I don't really mind Greta and I support her cause, but the people getting mad at others for attacking her are just fucking stupid. Of course she's going to get attacked, she's a celebrity. She put herself out there and started making (rightfully) accusatory and angry speeches where she's essentially told people they're going to be responsible for genocide and that it's their fault she's decided to become a celebrity and activist. Being sixteen doesn't matter, she put herself and her words and her personality out into the world and decided to become a celebrity. That means she's fair game for criticism. People talk shit about celebrity children all the time and nobody seems to bat an eye. When people make fun of Beyoncé or Kanye or Brad Pitt's kids nobody calls that bullying. Why is it different with Greta? And for that matter, why is it not bullying to make fun of Baron? Make up your mind, either all kids are fair game or no kids are. It's fucked up to decide which children are okay to bully and which children aren't.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | December 23, 2019 2:13 PM |
Also, people keep using the "child" defense. She isn't a child. She's 16. She is perfectly capable of being autonomous and defending herself. Hell, she's practically an adult. The child defense doesn't work with her because if she's old enough to scream at the UN, she's old enough to take a little criticism.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | December 23, 2019 2:16 PM |
She appears to be a very unhappy little girl with anger management issues. This won't end well.

Keep giving voice to rich and entitled people and that's what you get. Sometimes I think this brat is a right winger in disguise to discredit global warming, because I can't think of a worst spokesperson for such a serious matter.
I find it convenient that they had chosen an aspie for this so she can hide from criticism behind her handicap. This girl looks like an endless SNL skit.

[quote] I find it convenient that they had chosen an aspie for this so she can hide from criticism behind her handicap.
That's been the media playbook for the last generation. From Cindy Sheehan (grieving anti-war mother who lost her son) down the line to David Hogg (traumatized anti-gun child "survivor") and now Greta. You MUST listen to them because they've suffered so much, whether they know what they are talking about or not.
Then smother them in media sympathetic to the message and blast anyone who doesn't agree cruel and heartless.

by Anonymous | reply 79 | December 26, 2019 12:17 AM |
She's a child, she's on the autism spectrum. Her concerns about the climate are legitimate, but children tend to think in more black/white terms. Apparently, the world is so desperate for leadership that people are willing to grant her all sorts of powers that are beyond her and then criticize her when she can't live up to all this implicit authority. The media needs to stop quoting her as some kind of authority when she makes these kinds of childish comments, but they are all looking for clickbait. She's a passionate kid like the kids from Marjory Stoneman Douglas who got involved in anti-gun violence campaigning. Thus, her concerns should be taken seriously, but her comments should be put into context.

[quote] For about two years, Thunberg challenged her parents to lower the family's carbon footprint and overall impact on the environment by becoming vegan, upcycling, and giving up flying.[17][24] She has said she tried showing them graphs and data, but when that didn't work, she warned her family that they were stealing her future.

R83 A horror movie? That's a bit dramatic. She just sounds like another spoiled rich bitch, the type who screams "you're ruining my life!" at her parents when they get her a convertible in the wrong color. And at the end of the day that's what she is: a spoiled little rich bitch. I don't get these people pretending she's some calculated supervillain. She's not, she's the Paris Hilton of climate change. Stop feeding her ego and treat her like what she is, a spoiled teenage girl. Ignore her and she'll wilt like a flower and finally shut the fuck up. Unfortunately we live in a viral world where anybody can become a superstar if they make it on the right snapchat highlight, so that won't be happening any time soon.

[quote] Giving up flying in part meant her mother had to give up her international career as an opera singer.[26] Thunberg credits her parents' eventual response and lifestyle changes with giving her hope and belief that she could make a difference.[17] The family story is recounted in the 2018 book Scenes from the Heart.[27]
Are you kidding me? Mom gave up a career for little cunty brat? Oh look they already have a biography. Please, I'm no right wing conspiracy nut but this all seem a bit too calculated.
Remember Rosa Parks wasn't the hero people make her to be. Before her there was Claudette Colvin a teen who actually refused to sit at the back of the bus, but as a 15 year old pregnant black girl in the 1950s, she was too much of a whore to be the face of that movement, so they fabricated another incident with a more suitable candidate. Rosa herself pushed the hush on this pioneering girl no one cares to remember.
