His voice is serviceable, but the charm is actually seeing him. He's thoroughly out-sung in the She Loves Me cast recording, but he is a thrill to watch.

I agree. I was not a fan before I saw him in SHE LOVES ME, but I thought he was charming and funny and terrific onstage. I'd see him perform live again, given the opportunity.

He's an interesting actor--to me he's very comparable to John Krasinski. They're both decent actors; they're good looking, but not ridiculously so, and they do well as handsome, mild-mannered, Everyman types. But he's harder to cast than kKrasinski, i think because he's ever taller.

I'd like to see him get more comedy roles, which is where he excels.

Notice how Krasinski has transitioned over to writer/director? No one's been as enthusiastic for any of his output as they were for A Quiet Place. No one really cares about John Krasinski. They cared about Jim. A lot of these decent white boys, if they find their niche, can ride that for a good while, but have a difficult time transcending that framework.

Notice Jake Lacy. Currently stuck cause he generates the SAME vibe. That's why Levi had to engage theatrical mode to give himself dimensionality. Same goes for Krasinski. Lacy has nothing else, at the moment, to distinguish himself, which is what all these basic white men ultimately need.

Even as a straight woman I can tell Zach is closeted. Let's start with the very obvious classic clues, brief marriage, loves theater, he is an Hollywood actor. he will get better at bearding once he is much older. You know which career they all want? Matt Damon's. That's what they ALLLLLLLL want. Affleck too. These basic white boys can't transcend it like Damon can. Matt Damon is a good comparison. He's a better actor than Affleck (that's a low bar) but not that much better. He's still a good-looking man, but he tends to get pudgy and he never, ever kept up with a gym-worthy physique.

I think he continues to work because he has a (still) good rep, untarnished by scandal, and he's a pretty solid box office performer. But he never was and never will be the greatest actor of his generation.

A friend of mine just worked with Matt Damon on a movie where he had a scene between just the two of them and said he was the nicest guy. Very friendly and outgoing and kind to all the crew.
