He had a grandfather who was Korean but pretended to be Japanese when he immigrated to Germany. Now there is a museum dedicated to FRED'S grandfather, in Japan.
Fred Arminson can not be normal.

by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 8, 2019 12:50 PM |
R3, point taken... I don't mean to trivialize physical abuse or anything like that. But the online warnings from women who have been with him are a bit more than, "He was shitty to me." It's more like, "STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!! PLEASE I BEG WITH YOU WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING!!!" So, I don't know exactly what dude is up to, but...
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 8, 2019 2:55 PM |
Physical abuse? I’ve never read anything about that.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 8, 2019 3:08 PM |
You misread my post, R11, or I was not clear enough. No one here-- or anywhere, as far as I know-- is accusing Armisen of physical abuse. I said in my first post that he was alleged to have been mentally and emotionally abusive. R3 replied that the word "abusive" might be taking it too far, since no one has accused him of *physical* abuse. I agreed to consider that, but said that the warnings I've seen have nevertheless been alarming.
That's it.

Most of it is anonymous comments, now deleted from the net. This famous Fred Armisen has a reputation article on Gawker, written by Jordan Sargent, of all people. Author of infamous article that pretty much destroyed Gawker (among other things). This guy is a hack who helped crazy ex porn star blackmail private citizen. He would've sell his soul for a scandal.
Elisabeth Moss' comments are amazing though. Terrific burn. But it's obvious she was madly in love with him, and he just wasn't. It's sad, but not a crime.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 8, 2019 3:26 PM |
Elisabeth Moss isn't normal either. She was born into a cult and is still a member. I'm sure she is just as weird as Fred is.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 8, 2019 3:27 PM |
Knew Fred in the late 90's right before SNL. He was always "on" but that was okay because he was (usually) funny. Also fucked then dumped dozens of women just in the short time I knew him. Strange fellow but was always nice to me.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 8, 2019 3:34 PM |
Lots of Koreans took, or were forced to take, Japanese names when Korea was a colony of Japan. The grandfather became a famous choreographer during the war. There are about 2 million Koreans in Japan today who have Japanese names but Korean ancestry. They are called "jeil kyopo" in Korean or "zainichi kankokujin" in Japanese.
That said, I hate Fred Armisen and don't care who he is fucking.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 8, 2019 3:40 PM |

Yeah, he had an intensity and goofy charisma. He'd focus on a woman, be alternately silly jokey and super serious, and use these little seduction tricks (like using their name a lot.). Then he'd go info the kill and fuck them, dump them, ghost them. At the time, these girls weren't A-listers (mostly waitresses or aspiring whatevers) but all were out of his league. Gotta admit, Freddy was very impressive in his sociopathy.

There was anti-Scieno blog several years ago where a few people claimed that they infiltrated Celebrity Centre in LA. One of their claims was that Moss is bipolar. I can't remember the blog's title, but it was discussed here on DL. The blog was scrubbed from the Internet shortly after the post about Moss.

For much of his life, Fred had incorrectly thought his paternal grandfather to have been Japanese; his grandfather was actually born in Ulsan, Korea, and had adopted a Japanese name and persona after the massacre of Koreans in 1923 when he was a high school student.
Japan ruled Korea as a colony before the end of WWII. There were many Japanese who were born in Korea and many Koreans born in Japan
To this day, Koreans and Japanese are mostly cordial at best

I love the "Women found him attractive?" comments...
Surprise, women aren't nearly as shallow and simple as most gay men. Some women need to be fulfilled in more ways than just abs and coiffed hair. I'm a gay man and would totally go out with Fred Armisen. I think he's funny and so odd, it's attractive. I've always like weirdly funny guys, which, unfortunately, turn out to be straight in my experience.

Speaking of Forever, i do question his relationship with Maya Rudolph. They pitched Forever only because they wanted to work together. In NYT profile she said that being with him is pretty much her favorite thing in the world. It's strange to see such a friendship between two heterosexuals. Especially considering his slutty ways.

I wish to God Seth Meyers would stop doing the bits with Fred on Seth's show. Fred must have a huge piece of Seth's show and a solid contract. The bits are NEVER funny. Torture. And that's odd because Fred knows how to make funny snarky TV.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | December 12, 2019 6:17 AM |
The characters he plays in Portlandia are hard for me to watch. Not because he does them badly but because they cut too close to the bone. They are only slightly off real people, which is sorta genius. But I've known too many of those people in real life and can't stand them. (I regret every moment I've spent in their presence and any tolerance I've extended them.)

This is more than slutty, quirky behavior. It's straight up text book sociopathy. Charm bombing, then gas lighting, and finally ghosting are all HUGE red flags. He obviously hates women. I wonder who he's punishing over and over again---for decades, with hundreds of women. Probably Mommy?
by Anonymous | reply 68 | December 20, 2019 11:43 AM |
Lots of women will ignore warnings about men like this creep. Because they like to fantasize that they're special and superior to other women. Only 'they' have the power to tame him and get him to change. They are competitive and envious with other women. If they can hold on to a difficult man, they feel like they won something.
Narcissistic and BPD women are drawn to these assholes-- over and over. And then act confused when they get the same treatment every other woman gets. Not so special after all.

by Anonymous | reply 79 | December 28, 2019 3:47 PM |
Because, R79, it takes an enormous amount of swagger and confidence to survive the cutthroat world of comedy—epitomized by the SNL pressure cooker. Normal people often can’t deal with the insanity of it. Narcissists and sociopaths thrive on it.
One of my favorite comedic actresses, Catherine O’Hara, was hired by SNL in the early 80s. She left after about a week. She said she just couldn’t take cutthroat environment. She has more talent in her little finger than Ivy League boy Colin Jost has in his whole body, but look who survived AND got the Weekend Update anchor spot.

But Bill Hader, who is a very sweet and decent guy, was the star of SNL. I am sure there are other perfectly decent snl stars. I never heard anything bad about Tina Fey or Dratch or Will Ferrell or Dana Carvey.
Also i am not sure Davidson is actually surviving SNL. He's never on and when he is on, he's terrible. At least Armisen is a workhorse.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | December 28, 2019 4:21 PM |
Agrees R81. Some normal people succeed. But I think it also depends on the particular mix of people on the show at any given time. And who’s in charge the writer’s room.
They used to call Phil Hartman “the glue” who held SNL together in the late 80s/early 90s. He always was portrayed as a great, normal guy. Then I watched the 20/20 special earlier this year, when they interviewed some of the women in his life (including his ex-wife before he took up with drug-addled, crazy Brynn). And quite a different picture emerged: namely, a passive-aggressive jerk.

That's because women are portrayed as eternal victims in our culture. Ironically, that is eagerly taken up by many feminists, despite the fact that the "helpless female" is one of the prime rationalizations for women being subordinate to men.
