Wasn't she living in London bearding for 60's stud Alan Bates, who was fucking a hot young guy in their house.? They had some sort of a ménage in there. Any dish ?
Joanna Pettet, anyone remembers her from 'the group' and such ? She still alive ?

Isn’t she one of the many people who claimed to have been invited to Sharon Tate’s house on That Night?
I only remember her from Knots Landing, when she was investigating Ciji’s death. The show seemed to be trying her out for a longer role, because she got a fair amount of air time. Didn’t she always wear a headband or something-she had a very 80s look on the show

Wasn't she married to Alex Cord?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 1, 2019 11:31 PM |
Apparently she spent the afternoon with Sharon that day, and was one of the last people to see her alive. Back to the Alan Bates story please, anyone knows about that ? Always thought he was hot AF

We thought Bitsy and Tumpy were part of "the group"?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 1, 2019 11:57 PM |
Does she still act? I feel like I haven't seen her on screen since the 80's.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 1, 2019 11:59 PM |
She retired in 1990 R5. I always wondered why she retired young.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 2, 2019 12:05 AM |
I thought it was Joanna, but wasn't there an actress that retired relatively young that knew Sharon Tate? As I recall she moved out of state and it was kinda hush hush where she moved to.

I remember her from "The Group". It's not a great movie but it does have a talented cast and for some reason I do like it. It led me to reading the book and that's always a good thing. Oh! She also did a Night Gallery that was decent.
Sounds like she had good taste in men. Bates and Cord.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 2, 2019 12:19 AM |
The Group had an amazing cast -- seem of the most talented female actors of the day.
But the script was terrible. More than anything, it proved that the book on which it was faithfully based, and which some thought was "literature," was nothing more than Peyton Place with a bigger vocabulary.

R1 yes she was Detective Janet Baines for several eps in seasons 4 and 5. She got too close to the case and took herself off of it.

I remember watching The Group a few years ago, expecting a camp classic or at least a good time. It was very, very long and very lousy.

"Isn’t she one of the many people who claimed to have been invited to Sharon Tate’s house on That Night?"
She was over there on her last day alive. She and another friend had come over for lunch that day. But there was no talk of her being there the night Sharon was killed. Pettit was also friend with another horribly murdered young woman, Janice Wylie. Wylie and her roommate Emily Hoffert, were butchered as badly as Sharon Tate was. They will killed in the summer of 1963 in New York City, in what came to be known as the "Career Girls" murder case.
I have no idea why so many Hollywood types have said they were supposed to be at Sharon Tate's house the night of the murders but cheated death by not showing up for some reason. Sharon Tate was NOT in the mood for visitors that night. She was uncomfortable in the summer heat, eight and a half months pregnant, tiring easily. She already had two houseguests (Abigail Folger and Voytek Frykowski) who she wanted to get rid of but was too polite to tell them to scram. Her former boyfriend Jay Sebring was always visiting, hoping no doubt that she would tire of Roman Polanski and go back to him. There was no intended party at her house, although one was planned for Roman Polanski's birthday when he got back from Europe. It's so crazy that so many people say they were supposed to have been there on the murder night. It's almost like some kind of mass hallucination.

In 2003, actor Alan Bates bequeathed Pettet £95,000 upon his death. The two had enjoyed a passionate affair 40 years earlier, and had rekindled their romance in 2002, months before he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Pettet provided support and companionship during his final months. Pettet was quoted as saying: "It was a very touching gesture because he had done everything while he was in hospital to make sure I would be looked after following his death."[8]

I was trying to remember where I knew her from and finally - she was the love interest of Tom Courtenay in "Night of the Generals" 1967.
Great cast on a story set primarily during WWII with Omar Sharif as a German military policeman who is trying to find a murderer identified by a witness as a German General by the red stripe on his military pants leg.
Also starred Peter O'Toole, Donald Pleasence, Coral Browne.

She starred in the sitcom, “Miss Stewart, Sir.” The premise being she was a headmaster in a boys prep school.

Self-made billionaire John Paul DeJoria (of Paul Mitchell hair care products) gave an interview to the Los Angeles Times once where he was taking about his background and told the story that, if you're ever homeless and living in your car -- as he was at age 20 -- "Pick a friendly street." Film and television actress “Joanna Pettet came by and knocked on my car window on Mulholland Drive, where I parked. She said, ‘I heard you were sleeping in your car. I have an extra room in my house you could have for a couple of months free of charge.’ That was really nice.”

R19 Funny, because on her Instagram that's one of the things she mentions in her profile saying, "Holds the record for the most “Night Galleries” ever."
She posts occasionally, last time being in October. Reading through the posts, she mentions that she lives in Temecula, California and loves it.

R14 I knew a guy who knew them and that's not what I heard. The gossip was they were friends back in the day because they were in a play together, Bates and her and another Hollywood big shot, that was supposed to be her big break in the theatre. Never lovers except in her mind. Bates rescued her from a trailer were she was dealing drugs and brought her to London where she found his semi live-in boytoy, a young french model or whatever and threatened to call the tabloïds on him if he didn't marry her/pay her off, hence the 95 000$. My friend said she was batshit crazy and a bitch on wheels. Like, Faye Dunaway level crazy.

One of her early television appearances (1966) was a five episode arc in "Dr. Kildare" with Richarad Chamberlain when the series was doing more soapy, anthology-type stories. William Shatner was also in these episodes.

About two years later, she appeared in another project with Chamberlain in London for the Queen.

Yes ! I remember that quote. ' My life is crazy, one day I am presented to the Queen, The next I live in a trailer' My friend told me about that. And I believe everything he said because it's pretty much covered in the Bates bio by Donald Spoto. She bkackmailed him and raised hell in that house until he passed. And then she played nurse for the press. Nasty piece of work.

Like the person above I saw The Group only in the last several years. Maybe it made more of an impact at the time but I couldn't see much to it beyond the final scene with Candy Bergan and Larry Hagman.
Joanna was an odd choice for the daughter of James Bond and Mata Hari.

She really had a nothing career. She had a little bit of talent and was quite attractive, so was obviously just not ambitious. Losing a child is obviously hard on a person, too.
Rumer Willis wishes she was as pretty as Pettet back in the day.

LOL, R35, that’s hilarious! I think it may actually be Lynn Redgrave at Karl Malden’s left at R33!
I thought Pettet was very good in “The Group” — it had a very talented cast.
The backstory on “Blue” is interesting (to me, anyway): Robert Redford was originally signed for the title role, but had misgivings about the director and quit the film at the very last minute, on the way to the location shoot. Paramount was furious and sued Redford. Roman Polanski wanted Redford for “Rosemary’s Baby”, but there was no way that could happen while they were settling the fallout from “Blue”. Terence Stamp replaced Redford — and his struggle to hide his British accent was very apparent. He literally doesn’t speak for for the first 45:00 or so of the film. I don’t know if that was that was in the script all along, or if it was the filmmakers’ workaround of Stamp’s accent. And the film “Fade-In”, which depicts an onset romance between a film editor (Barbara Loren) and a stuntman/extra (Burt Reynolds) was shot concurrently with “Blue” and featured Pettet, Stamp, and Ricardo Montalban on the sidelines.

I spent an evening with Joanna at a party in NYC. Didn't know who she was, but the two of us started talking about dogs and hit it off, and later that evening Alan Bates came up, and he'd recently died (I think), and that's how I found out she was an actress.
I adored her. A lovely human being: unpretentious, thoughtful, kind and interested. I'm not surprised her manager is fired up by the poster who's said such mean things about her, cause those accusations sound outrageous.
