All things considered. Objectively the best, or your personal favorite. I like H. C. Baumann blocky Art Deco little-big apartment buildings, such as 1800 Broadway.
What's the best building or landmark in San Francisco?

R1 that panorama photo not very flattering, at a glance, it looks like there are some "favelas" in San Francisco too.

SF had many slums and neighborhoods of poor housing stock.

I have to agree with Coit Tower. Every time I visited San Francisco I always managed to make sure that the tower was somehow included in my run.

You really can't beat the Transamerica Pyramid. Sure, it's not a great building in its own right, but it's visible for miles and miles around, and gives the Sf skyline an eccentric uniqueness.
It's highly visible from the East Bay, from the bridges, and even from Marin.

Golden Gate and the Transamerica building are what immediately come to mind. I live in Ohio and have visited SF about a dozen times.

The best building in San Francisco is definitely not a high rise. Painted Ladies, Spreckels Mansion, Pacific Heights houses are truly unique to SF.

Pointedly, no one has mentioned the hideous, giant dildo that is the Salesforce Building.

Maybe not the best but a classic. The Ferry Building.

"Pointedly, no one has mentioned the hideous, giant dildo that is the Salesforce Building. "
I call it "The Towering Inferno Building", because that's what it reminds me of.
Although it did have a great Halloween costume...

I hate the Salesforce building. I hate the name Salesforce. It's stupid.
