New Lifetime movie will tell the story of the Chris Watts family murders

Who’s watching?

A new movie coming to Lifetime in January is based on the real-life murders of Shanann Watts and her two little girls by husband and father Chris Watts.

According to E! News, the movie, "Chris Watts: Confessions of a Killer," premieres on the Lifetime Movie Network on Jan. 25.

The movie will star Sean Kleier as Chris Watts and Ashley Williams from "How I Met Your Mother" as Shanann. Brooke Smith, who starred in "Grey's Anatomy" and "Silence of the Lambs, " will also star in the movie as a CBI agent.

People who followed the murders had mixed reactions to the announcement of the movie.

"It's disgusting because Lifetime couldn't wait to get their hands on this movie," one user commented on Lifetime Movie's Facebook page.

"I think that if it is done properly, it could be a great warning tool for women who are victims of domestic violence/mental abuse that are too afraid to leave," another user posted.

Although the heartbreaking story of the Colorado-based Watts family made national and international headlines in August 2018, both Shanann and Chris had ties to North Carolina and family in the area.

Shanann grew up in Aberdeen, attended Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines and still has family members in North Carolina. Chris graduated from Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville in 2003. The couple married in Charlotte in 2012.

In a prison interview in February, Chris Watts told interviewers he killed Shanann in their home and Celeste, his 3-year-old daughter, woke up to the sound of him pulling his wife's body down the stairs. Watts then drove Shanann's body, Celeste, and her 4-year-old sister, Bella, to an oil site.

R6 Lmao. Ok, you can have your feelings. I respect them. I do love watching true crime, but that’s where the passion stops.

by Anonymousreply 7November 20, 2019 11:03 PM

I feel bad for those kids. Horrible.

by Anonymousreply 8November 20, 2019 11:20 PM

Premiering tonight.

by Anonymousreply 9January 25, 2020 7:08 AM

Dave Annable should have played Chris.

by Anonymousreply 10January 25, 2020 7:19 AM

Cruise ship Chloe could have played one of the daughters.

Tonight at 7 REELZ channel has a documentary on him.

by Anonymousreply 15January 25, 2020 8:07 PM

It's 10 minutes in and they're spinning this to make Shanann look like the most annoying frau ever. She was a lot to take but it's weird to see a murder victim painted to be so unlikable. Wow, I recognize Brooke Smith (playing Detective Tammi) from "Silence of the Lambs" and she looks good.

by Anonymousreply 16January 26, 2020 1:15 AM

I love how they cast a haggard looking woman to play Shanann.

by Anonymousreply 17January 26, 2020 1:24 AM

[quote] She was a lot to take but it's weird to see a murder victim painted to be so unlikable.

Surprising realism and honesty. I've always said art often only need imitate life.

by Anonymousreply 18January 26, 2020 1:33 AM

Andrew Walker wasn't available?

by Anonymousreply 19January 26, 2020 1:37 AM

the actor playing Watts looks about 100 times hotter than the real one. I would understand a bunch of DL creeps being attracted to him..

The REELZ documentary is the side of the nosy but helpful neighbors. I'm taping but I watched for a bit and surprise surprise they are making it about them...

by Anonymousreply 20January 26, 2020 1:49 AM

Do they show him shirtless?

by Anonymousreply 21January 26, 2020 2:02 AM

Yes they showed him shirtless. He is hotter than CW.

by Anonymousreply 22January 26, 2020 2:15 AM

R20, why would it be creepy for DLers finding an actor hot?

I still don't understand WHY he did it and apparently doesn't either.

I don't know. Do these movie ENCOURAGE copycats? Do sick men see this and say, oh, it's an option. Or does this morbid curiosity we have serve as a replacement? When I see things I instantly become thankful my life isn't like that. Will preventing these stories prevent us from releasing something? Do they serve as a replacement for something?

I don't know.

by Anonymousreply 25January 26, 2020 3:00 AM

R25 I don't think these movies would encourage copycats. Family annihilator cases go back decades.

by Anonymousreply 26January 26, 2020 3:56 AM

Mmmmmm... like my fantasy Eight is Enough finale.

by Anonymousreply 27January 26, 2020 4:01 AM

I meant the jerks who don’t care he is a woman and child killer still think he is hot the real guy to the actor who plays him.

Has it been suggested Shanann had Munhassen or howeveryou spell it ?

Nicole the whore isn’t even pretty.

by Anonymousreply 28January 26, 2020 4:11 AM

I guess this thread is about both movies airing tonight in the documentary I love it when the woman giving lie detector test tells Watts before taking he was a bad liar. She would fit right in at DL.

I give up on you people. I think you are purposely trying to irritate us by being attracted that monster

. The REELZ was good but it seemed to have a gap. He lies and says he killed Shanann after she killed the kids then there was a commercial then he is being arrested for all the killings they must have said 100 times how beautiful the little girls were unlike some of the bastards here.

I’m watching Lifetime version right now looks like they going to blame the nicotine patches and Shananabeing a control freak. Brooke does look good.

by Anonymousreply 32January 26, 2020 6:44 AM

The Lifetime did hire child actors with thick hair.

by Anonymousreply 33January 26, 2020 6:52 AM

Did the actor do a good job representing our beloved Chris?

by Anonymousreply 34January 26, 2020 6:58 AM

The Nicole whore obviously got paid for the Lifetime version because she is coming off very well and zshanana isn’t.

by Anonymousreply 35January 26, 2020 7:09 AM

Between this and referring to a tossed cruise baby as the equivalent of a Gallagher smashed watermelon, we are such a fucking mess of a site.

by Anonymousreply 36January 26, 2020 7:17 AM

I only know the actress from that shit movie with Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin...so I'm rooting for the murderer in the movie based on that other performance.

by Anonymousreply 37January 26, 2020 7:35 AM

Note to potential murderers while the police are investigating the case do not text your mistress.

by Anonymousreply 38January 26, 2020 7:43 AM

They gave the lady polygrapher a striped sweater just like in real life but didn’t have her say my favorite line ‘you are a bad liar ‘ to Watts before the test was taken.

by Anonymousreply 39January 26, 2020 8:01 AM

OMG, they are not going to show the murder! You can’t believe anything Watts says.

by Anonymousreply 40January 26, 2020 8:06 AM

He looks a little like SC Kurt.

by Anonymousreply 41January 26, 2020 8:08 AM

Oh my God. They are making Shanann so bad.

by Anonymousreply 42January 26, 2020 8:08 AM

I will never watch. Lifetime movie again.

by Anonymousreply 43January 26, 2020 8:09 AM

Now the ACTOR playing Watts is very handsome especially without facial hair.

by Anonymousreply 44January 26, 2020 8:11 AM

They showed the tiny hole at top of the tank that too small for the babies. The movie implies they were still alive.

by Anonymousreply 45January 26, 2020 8:15 AM

Whatever happened to the guy who claimed to be Chris Watts' lover?

by Anonymousreply 46January 26, 2020 8:56 AM

SMH.

by Anonymousreply 48January 26, 2020 12:53 PM

Obligatory “she didn’t deserve to die”. Okay, having gotten that out of the way... I think the Lifetime movie didn’t show how controlling Shanann was in their daily life before the affair. Not only did she have the app that showed purchases, she had cameras and motion sensors all over that house. Ah ha ha ha. They did t show how she was always off doing some Thrive bullshit and how little time she actually spent with her children.

And they made it seem like Chris had friends. He didn’t.

by Anonymousreply 49January 26, 2020 1:05 PM

Is Chris doing well in prison?

by Anonymousreply 50January 26, 2020 1:09 PM

Were the daughters alive when he drove to the oil tanks? Or were they killed at the house after the mother?

by Anonymousreply 51January 26, 2020 1:50 PM

If what r49 says is accurate regarding the cameras how come they weren’t subpoenaed so we would have more answers to this?

by Anonymousreply 52January 26, 2020 1:58 PM

Always remember, we weren’t there.

You could be the next person who wakes up covered in Thrive patches, is accused of killing your wife and kids, and is then railroaded into “giving” a confession.

It’s Cancel Culture.

by Anonymousreply 55January 26, 2020 4:29 PM

Loved the scene with Watts telling the cops they were separated and Nikole was shaking her head no behind his back.. The actor playing Watts was a better liar than Watts was...

by Anonymousreply 56January 26, 2020 11:52 PM

Lifetime needs to rebrand itself as Deathtime.

by Anonymousreply 59January 27, 2020 12:58 AM

[quote]r59 Where can one watch this now?

by Anonymousreply 60January 27, 2020 2:29 AM

R51. The girls were killed in the car, Bella asked her father if the same thing that happened to her sister was going to happen to her and Chris said “yes”. I can’t even imagine how much of a monster you have to be to kill two little girls, your own daughters, like that.

by Anonymousreply 61January 27, 2020 2:46 AM

R52, there were 200 pages redacted from the discovery documents. There were things that the public wasn’t allowed to see. If there had been a trial, it might have been shown to a jury. Also, with things like a baby monitor, which would have captured activity in the children’s rooms, they don’t RECORD, necessarily.

The investigation was only ten weeks in before it was cut short when he pled guilty and waived his right to a trial. The investigators say it themselves: they didn’t get to pursue avenues of investigation. A quadruple murder investigation - even when the killer has confessed - needs more than ten weeks of legwork to make a solid case that can overcome reasonable doubt. The DA got lucky when that piece of shit pled guilty unexpectedly.

by Anonymousreply 62January 27, 2020 2:51 AM

R25/R26 men have been killing their partners and families since we grew opposable thumbs.

by Anonymousreply 63January 27, 2020 3:11 AM

The movie sucked. The whole story could have never got into two hours. This should be an American Crime Story series. There was way more to the story.

by Anonymousreply 64January 27, 2020 8:43 AM

R64 Agree! This story is much more layered than the last 6 weeks of their relationship. We need a movie that starts at the very beginning. Shananagins shady NC history with a former boss, bankrupcy"s meeting Kind fat Chris online during her Lupus flares and all the subtle over time controlling issues, living above their means , issues with inlaws on and on. This Lifetime movie was cop out

by Anonymousreply 65January 27, 2020 10:56 AM

The creepiest part of thay movie was when the investigator at the end said she wondered why Chris didnt have defensive wounds was because Shanann thought til the end that Chris was going to let go....

by Anonymousreply 66January 27, 2020 10:58 AM

it was better than i thought it would be.

by Anonymousreply 67January 27, 2020 1:30 PM

The real Chris Watts is hotter. R51 From my understanding, I think he killed the children while watching them over the weekend. Shannan came home from her work trip and discovered it and he killed her. That morning he took them to the oil tanks. He snapped. He didn't wanna be there watching the kids and shit. He was sick of being controlled and stressed. He is a dumb murderer. Watch you accept those Facebook friend requests from. It could be your future murderer.

by Anonymousreply 68January 27, 2020 1:44 PM

R68. Chris relayed to the police in lurid detail how he killed the girls at the oil tanks, when they were still in the car. It’s hard to believe that anyone would make up such a story, as it makes him sound like even more of a monster.

by Anonymousreply 69January 27, 2020 2:17 PM

R69 Chris is also a liar.

by Anonymousreply 70January 27, 2020 3:38 PM

I can't believe I forgot to watch it.

Remember the creepy picture he texted to her, of the doll under a pillow? Did they include that? That was so fucking disturbing.

by Anonymousreply 71January 27, 2020 3:50 PM

I seriously think DL should have its own permanent websleuths type thread, as it would be far more entertaining than the real one. The Chris Watts threads were amazing, I may have pissed myself a couple of times.

by Anonymousreply 72January 27, 2020 3:58 PM

Lifetime sucks but that killer is a hottie.

by Anonymousreply 73January 27, 2020 4:07 PM

I don't understand how anyone thinks this guy is hot after all that he's done. And also, he's not very smart if he thought he was going to get away with it. (If you kill your wife, and you're not OJ Simpson, then you're going to prison.)

Shanann appears to have been high-maintenance, maybe even an image-obsessed control freak, but that's no excuse for what he did. He could have easily just divorced her before he moved on to his new life. The alimony and child support would have been expensive, but in exchange, he'd have his freedom to move on. He would have looked like a scumbag, which is miles above how he's seen now.

by Anonymousreply 74January 27, 2020 4:18 PM

[quote]The movie sucked. The whole story could have never got into two hours. This should be an American Crime Story series. There was way more to the story.

It's possible that a limited series type thing could happen. Other networks and streaming services are into the whole true crime thing as well and IIRC, Hulu's The Act is supposed to have a second season at some point. The Watts case would be perfect for it.

by Anonymousreply 75January 27, 2020 4:22 PM

Saturday was a true crime movie night on the Lifetime channel.

It kicked off at 6 with the Kamiya Mobley movie. A woman stole a baby from a teen mother at a hospital, and she raised the child as her own for 16 years. When the crime was discovered, the now-teenaged kid was loyal to her kidnapper, and she still doesn't get along with her birth mother (the victim).

That was followed by the Watts family massacre at 8. The movie was OK; I thought it laid out the story pretty well.

by Anonymousreply 76January 27, 2020 4:31 PM

[quote]R70 Chris is also a liar.

Well, especially when he LIED and said Sha’zam had nothing to do with offing the girls.

They spent a considerable amount of time making Shanann look like a controlling wretch, but spent no time on showing that Cindy Watts was a horror show herself.

by Anonymousreply 83January 28, 2020 5:30 PM

Cindy Watts was merely being a defensive mother.

#MomsGonnaMom

by Anonymousreply 84January 28, 2020 5:43 PM

Sean Kleier was too good-looking for Chris. Chris was way more white trash creepy.

There was no mention of their significant financial difficulties. To the contrary, one of the cops says that they were doing well financially and is not corrected.

The house in the TV movie was not nearly as kitschy and frau momish as the real thing.

by Anonymousreply 85January 28, 2020 7:43 PM

Why wouldn't he just get a divorce? Would it have been that bad? Wasn't his mistress ready to help him divorce?

He must have thought other people were stupid. He makes all those deadbeat fathers who simply get up and walk away look like heroes.

by Anonymousreply 86January 28, 2020 7:56 PM

There's an accompanying one-hour documentary on Lifetime about the case and at the end they talk about all of the horrible people who have ridiculed Shazaam on the internet, so much so that last summer her father felt compelled to make a public plea asking for it to stop.

by Anonymousreply 87January 28, 2020 8:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 94January 28, 2020 11:10 PM

R85. I noticed that too, no mention of their knife edge finances, and Shanann spending like a drunken sailor. They couldn’t afford the private schools for the kids, the house, the cars, or anything. That’s why they were involved in that Thrive pyramid scheme, which they should have spent time in the documentary as well.

by Anonymousreply 95January 28, 2020 11:54 PM

[quote] That’s why they were involved in that Thrive pyramid scheme, which they should have spent time in the documentary as well.

Yeah. They completely glossed over that whole thing. The night before she was killed she was in another state the documentary claimed was “for a business venture they were involved in.”

by Anonymousreply 96January 29, 2020 12:00 AM

The movie re-enacts some of the film footage from body cameras and the neighbor's front door camera, which the documentary shows and they kept it pretty close to the facts. I noticed that in the movie, Shanaan's Lexus SUV is an older model, but in the real footage, it was the latest model, one that retails in the $40K plus range. Along with his big fancy truck, it's ridiculous how much money these two wasted.

by Anonymousreply 97January 29, 2020 12:01 AM

I'm baffled that Scooby Nickole is still shilling Thrive products when she's battling cancer.

by Anonymousreply 98January 29, 2020 12:11 AM

this psychopath is hardly interesting enough to deserve a movie. why immortalize trash?

by Anonymousreply 99January 29, 2020 1:25 AM

Killing Shannan solved one problem for Chris (frees him up for Nikki), but would it have cleared up all of their financial burden? Wouldn't he still be responsible for all of their debt even if his wife "disappeared"? He'd still be in the same hole if he'd just divorced her, no?

Unless he thought it could turn into an insurance payout -- maybe he planned on making sure their bodies were found and then he claimed their deaths as random murders. We'll never know...

by Anonymousreply 100January 30, 2020 10:55 PM

You must not watch many murder shows, dear. I’m sure poor Shanana had a big life insurance policy. Still Watts is dumber than a loaf of white bread and was probably not thinking of the outcome.

by Anonymousreply 101January 30, 2020 11:57 PM

Didn't he bury it at his work site? He thought he could pass it off as a disappearance. He snapped.

He also apparently hooked up with a dude.

by Anonymousreply 102January 31, 2020 2:05 AM

No, he didn't R102. That guy was an insane crackpot. The police quickly broke down his ridiculous story.

by Anonymousreply 103January 31, 2020 2:15 AM

No matter how hot he is, there's no forgiveness for murdering your own children. I don't think he's hot, but even if he were, all that is nullified by the murders.

What idiots would defend him, saying she drove him to it? The Lifetime movie had her saying she was going to tell all his friends, take all his money, he wouldn't have two cents to rub together. I don't believe she said those things. He texted her a doll covered and woke up with the plan.

Does anyone really believe Watts killed her because she was going to make him pay alimony and child support the rest of his life? If they do, they need to look into politics that reforms those systems, not defend murder.

by Anonymousreply 104January 31, 2020 2:47 AM

The Lifetime movie from a cable channel geared for women showed Shanana in a negative light which made me more angry at the ones who blame her for being murdered. I wish the woman detective told Watts she may have not been perfect she didn’t deserve to die and you are a lowdown good for nothing scumbucket baby killer. Who were your own children ! And then looked directly into the camera and said shame, shame, shame on you if you are still attracted to this monster.

by Anonymousreply 105January 31, 2020 5:41 AM
