This is odd - Dick Sargent and Fannie Flagg were on Tattletales as a married couple back in 1975?!?

(1) I never knew he was ever married (to a woman)

(2) Their marriage doesn't appear on EITHER of their WIKIpedia pages....strange!

BONUS: DL superfave Patty Duke is also on this show

They weren't appearing as a married couple, she was just his "lady." Several "couples" appeared on the show but were not romantically involved.

Oh, right - thank you, R1. Seemed strange.

In England this show was called Mr. & Mrs. - which added to my confusion.

It's interesting that a gay man and a lesbian went as a 'couple'. Was it convenience, or were they really friends?

Quite.

by Anonymousreply 4November 7, 2019 5:54 AM

Absolutely!

by Anonymousreply 5November 7, 2019 6:22 AM

Why didn't Fannie ask me to be her "merkin" for Tattletales?

by Anonymousreply 6November 7, 2019 6:25 AM

Was this while Fannie was living with Susan Flannery?

by Anonymousreply 7November 7, 2019 6:29 AM

Thank God my show had a bit of class, well actually a lot of class

Interesting? It's peculiar.

I swear once Phyllis Diller and the recently late Rip Taylor were on as a couple too.

by Anonymousreply 10November 7, 2019 9:51 AM

They should do a new version along the same lines as this little fiasco, call it "How well do you know your faghag?"

Hilarity ensues.

[quote]I swear once Phyllis Diller and the recently late Rip Taylor were on as a couple too.

What's more amazing is they are the same person.

by Anonymousreply 12November 7, 2019 1:31 PM

R10 Actually, I think you are mixing up her second husband Warde Donovan and Rip Taylor. I did too when I was watching it on Buzzr. Donovan and Taylor looked like they could be twins, both were flamboyant and identified as bisexual.

by Anonymousreply 13November 7, 2019 3:36 PM

So they would ask friends intimate questions that only a partner would/should know the answers to?

I mean, that was the point of the game, right?

by Anonymousreply 14November 7, 2019 4:04 PM

Didn't Paul Lynde appear on the show with some hag as a "couple"

I swear, I remember that

by Anonymousreply 15November 7, 2019 4:06 PM

Those two appear every bit as in love as Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper!

by Anonymousreply 16November 7, 2019 4:07 PM

It's a slightly less tacky version of "The Newlywed Game," but with celebrities.

by Anonymousreply 17November 7, 2019 4:11 PM

Dick thought he was dating "Trannie" Flagg.

by Anonymousreply 18November 7, 2019 4:14 PM

Tattle/Fannie BUMP.

by Anonymousreply 19September 28, 2020 3:56 AM

They did this all the time with gay guys and lesbians. And of course, they always lost because they just didn't know each other as intimately as the married couples. Still, it was fun.

I think it's ridiculous. But I love it.

Here's a 1977 "Tattletales" episode with Charles Nelson Reilly and his "lady," Elizabeth Allen. The other two female contestants are Debra Winger (she was on "Wonder Woman" at the time) and Suzanne Somers.

Is it back...….???!!!

by Anonymousreply 24September 28, 2020 4:50 AM

It's 100% true. In fact, Dick had Barry Gibb write "Fanny Be Tender With My Love" as a tribute to their hot, passionate affair.
