She was in several '80s and '90s classics (Dune, The Hot Spot, Candyman), then sort of fell off the radar for awhile. I was happy to see her receive some comeuppance with Sideways and receiving the Oscar nomination. However, it seems since then that she's had another similar career dip that she hasn't really come back up from. I've always thought she was a great actress, but she has weirdly never really had major mainstream appeal.
Whenever I heard her name, I always thought she was one of those old-timey actresses and I was always looking for an old lady who was making a cameo appearance.

Somehow or other, she always looked cheap. Something about her features or her demeanor, but she never managed to exude anything other than sleaze. Weird.
She was actually great on Frasier, and showed that she could do comedy well. And she does drama well too. Just has that weird look about her.

“Comeuppance” doesn’t mean what you think it means.

Wasn't that Oscar win a bit weak?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 3, 2019 6:40 PM |
I actually think she is very lovely. Don't get the "sleazy" description at all. She looked like an angelic porcelain doll when she was young with a halo of wavy blonde hair and big blue eyes. She also has great lips.

She was otherworldly in her angelic appearance. Very beautiful. Also a very good actress who I wish would come back.

Loved her in Gotham, a movie from the early 80's.

You're right R3, my bad
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 3, 2019 6:45 PM |
She was magnificent in Sideways. Her monologue about why she liked wine...I would swoon if a man so eloquently expressed such passion for anything.

She didn't win, R4. Cate Blanchett won for The Aviator that year
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 3, 2019 6:47 PM |
r11 Oh, I could've sworn she had an Oscar under her belt. Well, I quite like her but I don't think she's that great of an actress.

Who is the poorest living Oscar nominee or winner in an acting category?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 3, 2019 7:09 PM |
WHET her loser brother Michael?

She's excellent in Candyman and really anchors that movie. I've always liked her and also hope she gets another wonderful role or two in her lifetime.

Virginia Madden had a relationship with Antonio Sabado, Jr., 1993-1998, with whom she had a son.

She’s always delivers in every performance. She’s probably not a bigger star because she didn’t want it.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 3, 2019 7:36 PM |
She's talked about being sexually harassed and saying no despite threats to her career. People like Weinstein didn't come near her because a lot of the Hollywood sleazebags feared her brother Michael Madsen (again, this is according to her).

Her career is where Amber Heard's career trajectory is heading. Some notable femme fatale roles that went nowhere and barely okay acting that won't be able to sustain a solid career once her looks start going downhill.

I hadn't seen her in years before I saw Sideways. She was great in that movie and put me down as another who loved her speech about why she loved wine.

I doubt Amber Heard will ever be nominated for an Oscar

I like her

She was in that show Witches of East End with Julia Ormond a few years ago

She should be getting better roles

This is DL and nobody here mentions her star turn in "Hot to Trot"?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 6, 2019 8:15 PM |
Who the fuck is Amber Heard?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 6, 2019 8:17 PM |
I agree @R2 Just very cheap and common
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 6, 2019 8:25 PM |
She seemed to be in every movie in the 90s yet she was never a huge "star". The Tiffany of movies???
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 6, 2019 8:27 PM |
I think she's very lush looking. My grandmother describered her as a "candy box girl". Apparently, back in her youth candy boxes often featured Gibson Girl-esqe women on them.

Is she of Danish descent? Madsen is a pretty common last name in those parts.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 6, 2019 8:32 PM |
She's always reminded me of a more indie version of Angelina Jolie
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 7, 2019 3:04 AM |
I loved her in Dune.

^ She looks great in that pic

She's got the fatal Gummy Smile.

I always liked her and I LOVED her brother.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 7, 2019 4:39 PM |
She does have the gummy smile, but hers isn't that extreme. I think sometimes the high gums are sort of cute, which it is in her case. Michelle Phillips has the same kind of smile, and was still gorgeous.

Loved her in "Modern Girls"(with HOTTIE Clayton Rohner!) and in "A Prairie Home Companion".

I always thought she would have been a better June in A Handmaid's Tale.
