The transformation is complete: canefaced Lens Dunham IS Annie Wilkes

....and ohhh so tender to the touch!

[quote]I could choose to be embarrassed by these paparazzi pics- I mean, that’s probably the point of someone publishing them in the first place- but I’m really not. I could lie and say it was an early Halloween look (Don’t you get it? I’m going as a con woman leaving a Florida Keys jail after being acquitted of murdering her husband, and now she’s trying to get disability license plates.) But the truth is just: This is what life is like when I’m struggling most with chronic illness. An Ehler-Danlos syndrome flare means that I need support from more than just my friends... so thank you, sweet cane! For years, I resisted doing anything that would make my physical situation easier, insisting that a cane would “make things weird.” But it’s so much less weird to actually be able to participate than to stay in bed all day. And yes, you'd better believe I'm wearing my nightgown. I was walking four feet to the car to go to the doctor and I wanted to be full cozy. I mean, didn't Bieber wear hotel slippers for like five years? Yeah, so I can wear my glamour nighty for two hours. And then an hour later, I’m in a meeting look tackling the job I love. That’s the two-fold life of a woman with chronic illness; we still rock our dreams and goals and passions (and fashions) and we live many lives in one day. Tell me about your day!

by Anonymousreply 2November 2, 2019 10:02 AM

She does appear to have some genuine health issues, but she's been such a loon and attention whore for so long, it's hard to give credibility to anything she says. But perhaps she's finally developing a sense of humor about herself....

I LOVE that she doesn't give a FUCK

by Anonymousreply 7November 2, 2019 10:58 AM

R7 if she truly didn't give a fuck, she wouldn't be fishing for sympathy with a long, rambling, self-pitying internet post. Most of the population who deal with chronic pain and illness just shut up and deal with it.

by Anonymousreply 8November 2, 2019 11:32 AM

Not really proof of anything r5, could have been sitting just out of the frame. Or maybe she partied too hard and had a flare-up the next day.

Call me crazy but the housedress and cardigan look does her more favors than most of the poorly tailored dresses she wears.

by Anonymousreply 9November 2, 2019 11:39 AM

Her doctors cringe when they see this mentally ill loon on the appointment list.

Now she claims to have Ehler-Danlos?

What she actually has is Narcissistic Personality Disorder, aka “attention-whoring”.

Is this DL? Most of the comments are defending this tedious cow.

by Anonymousreply 16November 2, 2019 12:28 PM

Again, curse her parents for either, a. Encouraging her special snowflakeness and making her think she’s worthy of public attention, no matter how embarrassing, inane or pointless; OR, b. Not giving her the attention she is now begging from us.

by Anonymousreply 17November 2, 2019 12:53 PM

Whatever will this desperate, pathetic attention whore stoop to next? If she wants to jump on the bandwagon, start identifying as non-binary and transition to some indeterminate gender, she needs to do it now before that ship sails and it becomes unfashionable.

Maybe a few failed suicide attempts as well. "Lens Dunham has committed suicide.....again!" (as Aunt Alicia would have said to Mamita)

Ehlers-danloss (spelling?), is the new chronic fatigue syndrome: evert nutjob who wants to stay in bed all day, preferably with opiates on board, claims to have this. What they seem never to take into account or comment on, is that E-D has a genetic cause that can now be unequivocally identified.

Ironically the people who DO have it? They try to overcompensate in the other direction. They try never to appear sick. They look scary though. Like aquaman. Skin that stretches unbelievably, joints that that bend in unnatural ways.

There was an amazing episode of intervention about 15 years ago, i think, with the craziest bitch of all time claimed to have EDS. Linda Li, i believe. Chinese woman with an addiction to fentanyl lollipops. She set the standard for crazy EDS. Lens is a piker by comparison.

Fibro as well, R36.

I’m sorry if I don’t answer your text or email, or if I can’t show up the way someone else would. I am just trying to do everything required to maintain a life of joy and service. My work costs me everything I have. This is fibromyalgia. It’s little understood and so even though I have a lot of knowledge and support it’s hard to shake the feeling that I am crazy. But I’m not (at least not in this particular way!) and you’re not. Your pain, whatever shape it takes, is yours and so it is real. I believe you when you say you hurt. She probably has been misdiagnosed with ED and actually has fluoroquinolone induced tendon damage (& other permanent muskuloskeletal and central nervous system damage) from Cipro. It is absolutely horrific what Bayer and J&J continue to get away with by poisoning huge swaths of the population with the bio-weapons that are fluoroquinolones.

There MUST be a Personality Disorder for this: " Mommy and Daddy were too self- absorbed in their own Fabulousness and now I must feign every ilness possible to get their attention." . But just out of curiosity R38, what's the % of Cipro injury these days? Wouldn't want to end up maimed from my next bladder infection.

Cipro is really bad stuff. There are people who have taken only 3 pills and they are permanently disabled. My sister had a bladder infection and the side effects page for the medication was two paragraphs. Two months later she has another infection and they prescribed Cipro, the side effects were 8 pages long.

Side effects like ruptured Achilles tendons which could rupture up to six months after taking the medication. I begged her to call her doctor and get a different prescription, a person becomes an invalid from a bladder infection? She was under a ton of stress at the time and she was getting colds and eye infections. A month later the stress was gone and so were the infections. I was so glad she refused the Cipro.

by Anonymousreply 51November 3, 2019 6:47 AM

I admire celebs who "come out" about illnesses rather than try to hide the situation. It brings publicity, and it lets regular folks feel like they're not so alone.

Only on Datalounge would saying she needs to stick with housedresses instead of the literal junk she wears on the red carpet be considered "defending" her.

by Anonymousreply 56November 3, 2019 9:12 AM

[quote]She WAS suffering with "Endometriosis" or some other Pelvic disorder for which she received multiple procedures, medicines and treatments for- all publically documented over the years. NOW she has the Equally brutal ED Syndrome? What are the chances?

Honestly what probably happened is she was diagnosed with endometriosis and had a hysterectomy only to find out afterwards that OOPS she needed those hormones she was producing. One of the treatments for Ehlers-Danlos is supplemental hormones.

Everyone on Datalounge thinks every illness is completely invented but both endometriosis and Ehlers-Danlos can be diagnosed with tests (while fibro is still I believe a rule-everything-else-out-first kind of illness). I mean of course she could be lying about her illnesses, but the illnesses themselves are very real.

R57 — There's no test for hypermobile EDS, which is the one that she (along with an ever-growing contingent of mommy-bloggers) claims to have, and there is no established genetic basis for it.

Joint hypermobility (which is relatively common, heritable, and not necessarily related to EDS) can be diagnosed via the Beighton score, a set of observed movements with a points awarded for things like being able to rest one's palms on the floor when bent forward, extending an elbow more than ten degrees, etc.

Strangely enough, the mere mention of Beighton can result in gasping, sobbing, hyperventilating histrionics about not possibly being able to withstand the pain of bending forward or extending an arm, so the less diligent clinicians will jump straight to a hypermobility questionnaire consisting of questions such as:

Have you ever considered yourself to be double-jointed?

As a child, did you ever make your friends laugh by contorting your body?

Have you ever been able to do a split?

I could go on, but you get the idea.

There's nothing funny about legitimate EDS (dermatosparactic, FKBP14, arthrochalasic, etc., etc., etc.) and no one is denying that it exists. Just look at the pictures below and contrast them with "I have Ehlers-Danlos...that's what makes me so good at sex, LOL!"

...And most of the population didn’t have a show on HBO, an Instagram with fans or gets photographed by paps. So your argument’s weak and stupid. What YOU see as self-pitying, others who are not as cynical or just all-around assholes, see as an actress wanting to set the narrative to HER fans--some with self-esteem issues, I’m sure--that she’s not embarrassed to be seen in public looking dowdy with a cane despite this publication effort to embarrass her. [quote]There's no test for hypermobile EDS

This is entirely untrue, you're presenting a strawman argument of "gasping, sobbing, hyperventilating mommy bloggers" diagnosing themselves and using that as proof that there is no diagnostic criteria for hEDS.

I mean, why bother? Anyone with an ounce of intelligence and curiosity will look it up for themselves and see that you're wrong. Everyone else already thinks it's fake because they've just decided that it is, regardless of facts.

by Anonymousreply 64November 3, 2019 11:59 AM

Good job trying to conflate “test” and “diagnostic criteria” in people’s minds, but you’ll probably have better luck if you actually read the sites you google before posting. Here’s the first sentence under “diagnosis”:

[quote]Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) is diagnosed based on the presence of characteristic signs and symptoms because there is no specific test available.

But do go on pretending that a criteria that can be met with largely self-reported symptoms (with “too painful to do it right now,” “used to bend that way,” “had the striae before I gained 100 lbs, I swear,” heavy exfoliation, and torrents of tears covering enough of the others to sail right through) are equal to genetic testing. FDIS in action.

by Anonymousreply 81November 4, 2019 3:03 AM

I may have Ehlers-Danlos, or just a more benign type of connective tissue disorder (the rheumatologist was sort of waffling on it and wanted me to have more tests many years ago but I didn't bother because there's nothing to be done anyway). Both are real genetic defects with varied severity of expression, but the idea that someone could go along normally and then be 'hit' with symptoms as an adult is absurd. If your connective tissue is structurally bad due to a genetic error, joint hypermobility and skin hyperextensibility are evident from early childhood on. The overall situation does get gradually worse with age, or suddenly worse in some of the more severe types, but there aren't 'flare ups.' That's ridiculous. It's like saying you are having a flare up of your osteogenesis imperfecta, or a flare up of your achondroplastic dwarfism.

by Anonymousreply 82November 4, 2019 3:37 AM

Also, people with connective tissue disorders tend to be ectomorphs. As we grow, our wimpy connective tissue doesn't exert enough counter-tension on our long bones so we are usually taller than you would expect looking at the rest of our family. This is why some people think Abraham Lincoln had Marfan Syndrome, another connective tissue disorder. Lanky and gawky is the norm for people with EDS, not dumpy and stubby. I don't know how tall Lens is but she does not have long limbs in proportion to her torso.

by Anonymousreply 83November 4, 2019 3:43 AM

In other words, R82 and 83, she's just cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

by Anonymousreply 84November 4, 2019 7:29 AM

[quote]Both are real genetic defects with varied severity of expression

Exactly, thank you. I'm sorry you have this though, it sounds awful.

[quote] but the idea that someone could go along normally and then be 'hit' with symptoms as an adult is absurd

She sounds like she's saying she was misdiagnosed for a long time.

Honestly though if I had to guess I'd say she has something related to the hormonal issues that lead to a hysterectomy (which I don't think she lied about) and that it's not EDS at all, but who knows. The people saying EDS doesn't exist are idiots, though.
