R1, and yet that's the entertainment kids these days are watching. YouTubers are their superstars. I know I'll be accused of being a PR plant but the reality is those guys don't need anyone to plug their channels. I genuinely find the series well-made and interesting. You can clearly see they've been making these videos for a long time which means they understand how to create drama and interesting hooks.

Shane Dawson should do a "documentary" on JoJo Siwa's asbestos-riddled makeup line. These people are fucking AWFUL.

Shane's long form videos have been really good and entertaining. He and his crew have an approachability not all Youtubers possess. That's a large reason why they're successful.

They're estimating this new makeup collection will gross $50 million I think. I'm happy for him.

They were trending on Twitter - they had tens of thousands of idiots promising to buy their entire line.

I must admit I've always found Jeffree an interesting character, right back to his Myspace days.

Shane on the other hand I find absolutely repulsive and this make-up collaboration a blatant money grab.

Shane has zero interest in make-up. He's a revolting overweight slob who turned up to executive meetings sweating, greasy haired and covered with dog fur. I can only imagine he smells of bacon grease...urghh.

Don't get me started on his incredibly fake guffawing and laughter every few minutes. His cameraman is even more grating in this regard.

I guess DL really does hate most of the successful gays. Jeffree takes some getting used to but Shane is harmless. They're both successful doing what they want and don't have to answer to anyone. I admire that.

Shane Dawson is a very versatile comedian who has been impersonating very funny characters he created for over 10 years on Youtube. He's hardly unknown to anyone who grew up with Youtube as their prime source over TV. Shanaynay was his most famous creation, a white trash who thinks she's black.

He's actually bi and was in a long term relationship with Lisa Schwartz another famous Youtuber before coming out as bi and being engaged to Rylan. He was morbidly obese in his youth and he talks a lot about that in his videos, that's a lot of where his sympathy comes from.

He's very cool. I never followed Jeffree Star in my life because I don't care about make up or catty gays putting down others, but this series was fascinating to me and a full course on online marketing to sell a product. The duo was able to have the biggest sale in the beauty world history just by doing their videos themselves and posting the behind the scenes of their story.

Star came off as a very savvy businessman and I know understand why he's so rich, albeit tacky. I have lots of sympathy toward him now. This was such an eventstraight dudebro youtubers were buying this make up shade just to support Dawson, I never thought I'd see that happen.

Dawson and Andy his cameraman and editor, who came up with the design of the line himself is also a great storyteller. Why isn't Netflix picking up a reality show with him is beyond me. His videos have like 15 million views each for this series alone.

There's a conversation at one of the episodes where Star says he paid 20 million in taxes the previous year and the marketing chubby tattoo guy also explains how much money they make and how the profits happen.

You can see it happening live at the launch of Shane's merch store, you can pause the video and read the statistics at the shopify dashboard. He made half a million dollars in 30 minutes with that one.

As great as the whole series is, let's not pretend this isn't without external help. Shane is represented by one of the top agencies in Hollywood, UTA, so I think it's part of their marketing brand to look informal and all, but there's a major marketing strategy behind all of this.

It’s not like toilet paper or even face cream. Maybe some people buy and hoard much more makeup than they can ever use? Every time I go into Sephora there’s a new celebrity make up line.
