My friend let me drive his Tesla
Wow, I hated it.
It drives like a go-cart. It goes when you press the pedal but stops suddenly when you let up on it, rather than the slowing down gradually we’re all used to.
Sure there are lots of computerized bells an whistles— the large panel (IPad-like) from where you control seats and mirrors and watch GPS.
Yes, it’s all cool but is it really worth $70k? no

Why would it stop more suddenly? I never took physics. Wouldn’t a lighter can retain velocity longer? Is it that the gas in a traditional car doesn’t cut off as suddenly as the electric power in a Tesla?

Every rich douche in CA has one. A Bloomberg article said that BMW sales are the most negatively affected by increased Tesla sales. Makes sense - both overpriced status machines for douchebags.

R6
Just on a physics level, it shouldn't stop suddenly. A normal vehicle gradually slows down because of friction and, if you're on an incline, gravity. If the Tesla suddenly stops when you take your foot off the gas, it must be programmed to do that.

Teslas might as well be exhibit A for why Silicon Valley should stick to computers and smart devices and stay away from genuinely practical technology. You can't open the damn door a lot of the time (and a doctor died in a fire because of it). That stupid iPad interface breaks easily, and, when it breaks, you can't use the damn car. Anything in a contraption that can kill you should always have an analog override, but I can only assume the tech bros at that company (starting with Musk) think they're above that. Apparently only a mountain of lawsuits will change their minds.

Hmm. I’m considering the T3 model, or a Prius, as my next vehicle.
I’ve driven the Prius numerous times for work, and I love it.
Anyone with a T3 who drove a Prius previously, & can offer long term driver comparisons?
TIA.

Considering what American luxury cars had become it's nice to see the success of the Tesla.
It's the first time an American luxe brand has been able to cut into the sales of the Germans.

R15, I drove German for over 10 years. I love German cars, but the gas is just not worth it any longer.

I test drove a Tesla a couple weeks ago, experienced the same, but loved it for that. Guess, they cannot please everybody. My next car will most likely be an EV. Not sure about the manufacturer yet. Tesla would be my dream but they are out of reach for me. I could afford the basic Model 3, but every little extra item adds big time. So I am still looking.
R8, can you explain why you think that every rich douche in CA has a Tesla? Just by itself your statement sounds pretty douche-y. What makes Tesla drivers 'douches?' Or do the rich douches just co-incidentally drive Teslas?

My rich friends have a Tesla. When they bought it, they kept commenting that they were doing it to help stop climate change.

R9 they are programmed to do that. You can adjust the effect though. All electric cars do it to one degree or another. The idea is you use the brakes less and use the effect to come to a stop while putting some energy back into the batteries. I think you’d get used to it.

They are everywhere in LA and the design of the car is common at this point. The look of most cars is updated year after year, but every Tesla looks exactly the same, except for the color.

I read in "Motor Trend" that while the vehicle itself may be state of the art, the Tesla manufacturing process is quite primitive and backwards and thus costly.

I'm an insurance adjuster and this past 6 months I really starting to get a lot of accident claims involving Teslas. It had nothing to do with how the car drives, they were just standard accidents, but last year I'd barely got any claims involving Teslas (we insure mostly military employees). So a lot of people must be buying Teslas for me to get so many claims

Recently I saw a brief documentary on Tesla manufacturing. Tesla does some things well. However, what it does wrong, it does extremely wrong! I'll never understand why Elon Musk is so revered. He shouldn't be. Should we, especially Americans, be driving all-electric cars? YES! The technology existed before I was born. It was published in The SAE Journal in 1966 and 1967.

Long before you were born.
At the start of the 1900s, nearly 40 percent of the cars sold in the US were electric.

What an idiot.
Musk is the eccentric imperfect entrepreneur with a vision. It's an American tradition.
We haven't had a viable independent car manufacturer since American Motors. Bravo to him for having the audacity to compete with the long established car companies.

The Tesla Model 3 is $39,490.
On that price you can deduct a Federal tax credit of $1,875
And then there are the savings on gas.

I recently had an Uber ride in a Tesla and was very nervous that I'd be trapped in the car if the tablet malfunctioned. Given how often phones and tablets get buggy, I don't think my fear was completely unfounded.

Here's some nightmare fuel for you, R48. All in all I think the Tesla is pretty safe, but anything electrical has a potential for failure. People die fairly often because they can't get their power windows down when the mechanisms get wet. I carry a hammer around in my car just in case.

I think the OP means golf cart. Golf carts accelerate when you press the "gas" but when you let up off of it the deceleration happens less gradually then you are used to driving a car. I wouldn't enjoy that in a car.
