I know it means Party n Play, but what exactly goes on? Hard drugs and unprotected sex? Any experiences? I can't believe the amount of people I've seen on Grindr with this in their profiles.
What Exactly is PnP?

There's a pretty well-known porn star in my area (a few blocks away) and I couldn't believe how many times he wrote "T" in his profile. It was kinda sad. Just one massive stereotype.

I’m shocked at the number of parTiers PnP whatever too. How are there so many functioning meth addicts. Or is meth not as horrific as all evidence has lead me to believe? I feel a little bit prudish - but I am terrified of crystal as much as heroin.

Instant turn off for me. I don't care how attractive they are. Two friends of mine have dropped out of the real world and into oblivion via meth. They were both, at one time, the most popular and successful guys in our circle. Now just shells of who they once were.

I'm decent-enough looking, but I had sex a number of times with the most absurdly mostly straight handsome and well built man because he was a meth head, and just wanted to have sex when he was high. He was WAY outside of my league, but that didn't matter to him when he was high. I tried meth a few times with him, but it did nothing for me. It is not something I would care to do under other circumstances. As much as I liked fucking around with this guy, he has, thankfully, gone sober, and I am proud of him for that. The unfortunate thing is that he has found Jesus big time, and is keeping sexually pure because the only person he can love is God. And Jesus. which, if you're christian, is kind of the same thing, non? I'm happy he is sober, but, damn, those were good times. I think the meth will let you do things you wouldnt ordinarily do.

I wonder about this too R7. I had an ex who was functioning for a while and was going to work as normal before he decided to get clean. I was shocked to read Norman Ohler's book about use of crystal meth in Nazi Germany (called Blitzed: Drugs in the Third Reich). They had the entire army on it (called Pervitin), housewives were on it, everyone! There is certainly something twisted about the PnP scene though which takes pride in doing this stuff for days on end and wears it as a badge of honour!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 26, 2019 7:41 AM |
The other thing that I’m curious about is why this form of amphetamine is so sexually charged. It doesn’t seem to have been so for the Nazis. Or the 50s housewives, Judy Garland, etc. is meth somehow different in its sexual effect now? It’s the one part I’m curious about - as coke and other stimulants never did much for me.

I partied hard all through my 30’s and paid for PNP crystal use dearly, near the end of my using I got a MRSA sore on the back of my head that would swell up every time I used meth, because it was affecting my immune system. My friend had something similar with his heart tissue that was life threatening. MRSA travels throughout the bloodstream once introduced and can wreak havoc with long term meth use because it lives inside scarring even long after you’re treated with antibiotics. It flared up every time I relapsed.
I’m in my 9th year sober and just turned 50, it just wasn’t worth it. My joints and especially my knees are weak and glassy and I lost weight but gained it back differently. I’m healthy now but if I could do it all over again I would’ve never done meth.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | December 12, 2019 6:48 PM |
The meth is more pure than ever before, 500 times stronger than cocaine. It’s also terribly addicting even if you’re not an addict. It has a 98% relapse rate.
Only 2 percent of people that get off it stay off it, if I knew that before I would’ve never touched it.

Using meth was like having one constant orgasm for hours. It’s a delicious, sexy high if you’re careful and meter it out, I knew plenty of beautiful men that made careers out of it. The problem is you wake up and 15 years have passed and none of the guys are sexy or have jobs anymore. The scene gets darker the further along you go.
Crashing on meth is like a never ending nightmare.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 12, 2019 8:47 PM |
The meth hangover is bad enough to keep many of us from ever becoming addicts. My experiences with it were never that exciting to begin with. Everything can be addictive for some and not for others. That said, the best advice when it comes to any drug - pot, pills, coke, meth, etc. is to simply avoid it in the first place.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 12, 2019 8:55 PM |
R18 HIV is not a given. Meth users were one of the first groups given PreP and as long as they take their pills, they will remain negative. While meth users probably are not great about taking a pill every single day, we now know PreP works even with missed doses ( and may work with as little as four doses per week on average, although nobody should be trying that on purpose until the science comes in)

But did you know a shit-ton of people in manufacturing and service jobs use it for maximizing work performance, just like the Nazis?

I agree with R46. I remember in the mid 90's when meth hit the east coast and it him men fast. It had previously been more prevalent on the west coast and guys just got right into it when it became more available here. I saw men with powerful jobs, incredible homes, stunning looks lose everything. Just everything. There was a guy who lived in those apartments at 34th and 9th next to BH and he had a great job and nice apartment. I saw him later living with a drug dealer lost his job and the apartment. He was a top though who could always get it up so he could ride it out a little bit longer. There were no real resources for treatment at that time because the majority of treatment centers on the east coast were not prepared for meth. If they knew what it was, they considered it more of a "west coast" problem and really didn't know what to do or how to detox someone off of it. I remember doing an intake at a treatment center and the intake lady asking me how many "rocks" did I smoke a day.....All I could do to detox was sleep for about a week. This was after being up for 2. The crashes were awful. I also remember offering a friend from San Francisco some crystal when he was visiting and his response was, "No thanks. We've already been through that." I didn't understand what he was saying, but a few years later I did. At least now there's CMA and the treatment centers know how to detox it and there's other resources for it, though the relapse rate is still high. Especially among gays.

It makes you feel manic and horny but you usually can't sustain an erection. So you take Viagra and you think, problem solved. You meet a lot of cute guys, fuck your brains out, and suddenly you can't stop thinking about getting high again. So you do it, and three years in you realize your body is changing, maybe your teeth are coming loose, but by now you just can't stop because every time you try you get so depressed you want to kill yourself. And then you see one of the guys you used to party with and he has lost 80 pounds, 2 teeth and his skin looks like gravel. And you tell yourself this will never happen to me. Then, 3 years later, your psychiatrist is prescribing your first dose of antipsychotics because you have gone insane and the really bad news is, this cannot be cured. Ever.

I can't think of any "drug" that isn't highly addictive for someone out there. This particular drug seems to be polarizing (unlike alcohol which generally is loved by most - for example). You sort of love it or hate it. Again, IT IS NOT WORTH THE EFFORT - this substance gives you a terrible, agonizing hangover and is really not fun if you take the entire experience into consideration. Some of us actually expected an amazing, highly touted "high" and never even experienced anything close to that. But to each their own and I am sick of the goodie goodies telling us that once you use it - you are addicted for life. That just is not the case at all and honestly a ridiculous assertion. Alcohol and marijuana remain the most popular addictive substances in this country - love or hate it, that is the case and very well-documented. However, I would personally avoid meth - many do develop addiction issues although personally, I don't even find it all that enjoyable to begin with. That said, MANY, MANY people are very able to use it once or twice a year and never crave regular usage. For many people, any and all drug falls into that criteria. Very few of us take up a daily addiction habits and let a drug control our lives (or even have a desire to do so). This is just a fact.

I certainly don't want to do a drug that keeps me up days. I tried it a few times- snort then smoked- and the snort come down was bad. The smoke was not. I got super, extremely high smoking it. And super horny. But I didn't have a bad come down. I stayed awake for 2 days which was enough to cure me of ever wanting to go there again.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | December 13, 2019 3:54 AM |
R79, I am happy for you - but I have ALWAYS had a terrible hangover with this drug. I agree that snorting is worse than smoking, but for me the hangover is always HELL. Being up for days damages the immune system, makes you miserable and of course - has to be planned around work which I think ultimately describes why this drug is just not realistic addiction for normal people. If you don't work - go for it I suppose. For the rest of us, it is not an option.

by Anonymous | reply 81 | December 13, 2019 4:03 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 82 | December 13, 2019 4:04 AM |
R46 I know you’re not glamorizing it, but past users often talk about highs so positively like you did...”it’s a delicious sexy high...the sex was amazing on (insert drug here)...I sounded so smart and am so magnetic when I was on (insert drug here)_...” BUT when you’re not high and have to interact with someone who is, it’s fucking annoying and NOT sexy at all...not even cute. I slept with guys who were high on coke, meth and/or pills and the sex sucked. Their hygiene was bad too. Meanwhile they act like they just gave me the best time of my life. It’s like “no, dude. You are high as fuck and sucked in bed.”
A sober ex of mine who forgot we slept together when he was an addict was recounting the number of people he could remember sleeping with and said “omg the sex was so good on coke.” I said “to whom, because we slept together and you were awful!” He was floored. I’m like seriously you have no idea.
I guess in order to enjoy sex with someone who’s high you should also be high.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | December 13, 2019 4:26 AM |
Hygiene issues with coke users is an odd topic. Never had an issue with that one. Meth on the other hand is very different - often the user has been up for days and sweating for days. Yeah, in this case hygiene has been an issue for me when fucking these guys (oddly, they are usually "straight" guys who are dying to bottom which they only crave when on the drug). As a top, I have found hygiene issues with "straight" guys who have no idea that they need to "clean up" before sex. I really don't have any horror stories, but the married and engaged-to-females guys are a little bit dirty as a rule. Damn, if they were not HOT AS FUCK though. The hottest guys that I have ever fucked in the ass were tweaking "straight" guys. Don't knock it until you have tried it. That said, the fear is how to get them out of your place (they tend to want to hang out for 3, 5, 8 hours and it gets really tedious despite the amazing ass that you fuck..). being on different levels tends to make hookups somewhat difficult. Tweaked out is a different time table. Stoned is a different time table. I stick to cocktails - and I am never on the same level as most of my fuck-buddies. That said, getting rid of a tweaker is the WORST. They are very nice usually = but you can't get rid of them. Not fun as a rule..

I don't do hard drugs. If I'm offered a joint once in a blue moon, I'll smoke. I like to drink occasionally.
I taught on a reserve where there was a "meth problem". I was told many of the users stay in their homes for days on end. This reserve was very poor, most collected welfare.
Children would wear the same clothing every day. It's from a seventh grader that I learnt "meth smells like cat pee". Poor kids. Their parents were argumentative if they showed up to parent teacher meetings (most didn't).
Interestingly, Facebook seems to be big among tweakers. A lot of angry, paranoid rants about wrongs done to them. Run on sentences and poor spelling abounds.

Just grateful I never tried it. If only out of fear. Alcohol is enough for me. And occasionally pot. I can’t imagine how people function in a job after being on meth all weekend. I can barely get through the week without a hangover.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | December 13, 2019 8:59 AM |
R12, crystal meth has been around since at least the 1980s. R50 - ice is crystal methamphetamine that's processed to be dry rocks for smoking. I've been a recreational meth user for 25+ years. I injected it for years and now I drink it diluted in water. Every 2-3 months me and bf will clear a weekend and book a day or two leave (you do need a few days to recover at my age), and we'll spend the weekend high, fucking each other silly for hours on end, and talking. It's definitely not for everyone but it's been good for us. We know to keep it occasional and how to manage the downsides (plenty of fluids and soft/easy foods, electrolytes, decent painkillers). I've never had unsafe sex with a stranger on meth and I've never been addicted to it. Amphetamines aren't physically addictive - the dependence is psychological. Meth can be one of the most destructive illicit drugs out there when used excessively, but it is possible to use it moderately and manage it. Exaggerated alarmism is just as counter-productive as being too permissive or encouraging. The best way to empower people to manage their drug use and avoid the pitfalls is to arm them with knowledge and the means to minimize the risks.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | December 13, 2019 9:11 AM |
I went through the whole meth thing in the late 90's, friends were using it as a party drug and I would do it also. For me it was just like speed, keeps you awake and completely suppresses the appetite. We would all snort up and then go out to the club, they would have a great time dancing and little drinking and just feel the love from all around. I would be at the club hyper alert, not feeling the love, and feeling anything except horny.
So I used meth for several months, snorting it in the morning before work so it would keep me from eating and then after about 12 hours the buzz would wear off so I could have a good nights sleep. Worked great as a diet drug, but totally killed my sex drive in any way, and also made me feel uncomfortable and edgy. So for me it was easy to stop using it, it just wasn't a fun drug to use, and I never once had sex while high on meth.
Weed, now and forever!
by Anonymous | reply 100 | December 13, 2019 9:19 AM |
R100 - thanks for that. I had a similar experience with coke. All edge and increased anxiety. Though it did keep me going on a Friday night after a long week. But just wasn’t the right drug for my mind. Alcohol and pot work much better. I have a feeling I would love heroin - for the calming effect. But am terrified of it.

R87 Haha! I couldn’t agree more I love the replies of people who say they don’t have an addictive personality, they can manage it, etc....
You don’t handle drugs they handle you. And your life might not fall apart Immediately. It may take years, but it will happen. You don’t have to have an addictive personality to become an addict. I’ve known too many people who were for all intents and purposes responsible and wonderful people who just liked to party here and there and then the next thing you know they’re living under a bridge. Again it’s a slow burn sometimes and it can take years but it will catch up to you.
The mere fact that someone knowingly chooses to ingest foreign and dangerous chemicals into their bodies just for a “fun time” speaks volumes as it is.

by Anonymous | reply 109 | December 13, 2019 2:45 PM |
OP, just because someone on this thread says they use Tina and can handled it, don't assume it is true. They need to say that so they can justify their use of the drug. They cannot take any other position on the matter and continue to use. Their comments here enable their use later this weekend and after. Alcohol damages your liver, but Tina causes brain damage. Remember that as you evaluate the statements here.
There has been enough posted here in this thread about the hideous crash that follows the high to make it clear that people returning to this drug are not really in charge of their use of Tina. And if there are a small number of people who use Tina on occasion and manage to keep it under control, it does not mean that YOU will be one of those people. They are in the very small minority.
If you decide to try Tina, do yourself a favor before you begin. Liquidate all your assets. Put them in an irrevocable trust. Make your toughest sister the trustee. After that is in place, go fuck yourself over with Tina, if that is what you're bent on doing. But you might not come back. Not in one piece.

This thread has reminded me to call and check in on a friend of mine, who started using meth about 2.5 years ago. He just turned 60. He has lost his job and blown through his money. I was in his town this spring and took him out to dinner; he is skinny, has terrible skin and can’t sit still.
I won’t stay at his house any more because of the lowlifes hanging around. He’s been ripped off right and left and someone got the passwords to drain his accounts—he’s too fucked up to think clearly and too paranoid to file charges. He paid off his home years ago and our fear is that he or a “friend” wIll pull it together and take out equity.
He is still in there, underneath the addiction, but believes he can do daily “maintenance “ and still present as normal. Sadly, he showed me a videoconference website for people who want to do drugs together—the druggies staring into their cameras, shooting up, having sex, passing out—was revolting and I’ve seen some tough stuff in my years.
I don’t think he’s long for this world and he admits he’s not ready to clean up. Not sure he can at this point.

R115. It’s rough. It took a lot for me to stop. I should be dead. I’ve OD’d 3 time on G and T. I let a guy shoot me up once and he purposely OD’d me to rob me. I went into renal failure, had a 108 temp, was in ICU and then was in Psychosis for 3 weeks. Even that wasn’t enough. Luckily I had another horrible experience and I’ve been sober since. Losing everything wasn’t enough either. Luckily I have my career and a place to live again and zero desire to touch that fucking drug. Most of those people are trash and will rob you blind. I wish the best for your friend

by Anonymous | reply 128 | December 13, 2019 8:22 PM |
I’m shocked at how many 50-somethings seem to get hooked. Is it suicidal urges? A desire to keep the party going? Or as someone upthread said, that meth takes a while to eventually take over your life? As a 50-something, I can not imagine doing drugs and having hangovers like that anymore. I can barely have more than 3 drinks anymore without needing to abstain for weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | December 13, 2019 8:23 PM |
I used to PnP... did it for about a year and a half for maybe once a month but it got a little more frequent (bi weekly) at the end. I'm such a control freak though that even when spun like a top I was not doing bb bottom on the regular or anything. I was mostly into oral and could eat ass for HOURS. The sexual high, for me, was incredible, even if the hangovers were the absolute WORST.
One day I did too much and just tweaked out of control. I was home alone after PnP, couldn't sleep, thought I was dying, and called 911. When that happens, cops come too. I was taken to the ER, "treated" and discharged. Still couldn't sleep so I self-admitted about a day later and was inpatient. Referred to behavioral health. I realized then and there how much I could get absolutely fucked by any charges.
No problem kicking the use, and no desire to relapse. I will say the "taste" of it never leaves my brain if I concentrate on what it was like. Did not affect my job, thank god. I also quit smoking tobacco cold turkey (this was AFTER the tina). So maybe I'm just an outlier person who can kick this stuff.
Abstinence is key, though, kids! I don't understand people who can stay spun out for days on end though, get tooth rot, pick their face, et cet. At some point I want to be a productive member of society and not pulling it all day long.

I find it weird - the drugs that people feel the need or desire to take daily. NOTHING drug-wise is good on a daily basis. Meth would be absolutely Hell on earth to use on a daily basis. This is very confusing and YES I have taken the drug before. I know enough to avoid it. It really isn't that fun and the days of Hell after using are just that. Again, NOT WORTH THE EFFORT.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | December 14, 2019 1:03 AM |
Also as mentioned upthread, I think the purity of meth w/"improved" production methods has contributed to addition issues. From my experience, I recall doing in the 90s the primary driver for using it was not to have chemsex, but rather to club hop w/friends all weekend (and given what it was generally cut with, frequent visits to the loo, which in itself, was a deterrent). Also, I had at the time, 2 close friends with whom I partied, and we were watchful of one another, if veered off course.

He said when he was done, they realized the entire house was filled with white smoke. His friend said shit was all over everything and when he tried to clean it, it became super sticky. WTF. I have never heard of that. His friend is freaking out but the guy who he hooked up with said he smokes all the time in his house and doing it one time and having that smoke fill up his house isn't going to harm anything.

Have a friend who lost his job and just started at 50. So sad. Despite being around it and seeing its harm, seems like he just has given up hope and decided to “screw it all” and do meth. I totally understand why - but sad to see.
Just like heroin is more prevalent in the high unemployment former factory towns where people are hopeless, I think meth is that for middle aged and older gay men who feel lost in the gay world with nothing keeping them attached to life and with little hope for the future. To be unemployed or underemployed in middle age, with few job prospects and no possibility of retirement, I understand why a slow suicide by “partying” becomes an attractive option.

A friend who had struggled with sobriety through adolesence and his adult life had a relapse in his early 60's. It was bad. He went rehab a few years ago, and he is probably clean and sober, but he is brain damaged from the meth. Paranoid, anxiety ridden, contentious. After 40 years, it's finally been too much for me. I stayed by for all the other recoveries. But I'm tired of being screamed at. It seems unlikely that he can re.pair the damage he has done to himself this time. Awful.

If I find out anyone near me is into hard drugs, even just casually, I dropkick them out of my life. Casual use is bad enough, but junkies are sub-human, like a demonic presence that used to be your friend. Once they're hooked it's a life-long struggle that most of them will lose.

They need to condem houses where meth has been 'cooked' because it gets under the joists, the walls, the floors everything. It can't ever be cleaned out and will have a lingering psychological impact on everyone who lives there. Obviously most properties aren't condemned, they get a paint job and a re-tile and are sold on to some hapless victim.

There used to be a guy who would frequent the Christopher St bars whose brain was utterly fried from drugs, including meth. He would talk slowly, like he had a stroke. He came from a very wealthy family. He was constantly looking for more meth sex.
