Justin Trudeau wins another term!

Bye, bye, Trump-lite chipmunk Scheer, we hardly knew ye (fortunately)!

Fake news! Rigged election!

Dear, he lost a majority. That means he's not prom king any more.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 22, 2019 4:07 AM |
CTV News just announced the Conservatives have won the popular vote but lost the election. Our system is so fucked up.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 22, 2019 4:07 AM |
Gavin McInnes AKA R5, shouldn't you be presenting your holeto Proud Boys ?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 22, 2019 4:12 AM |
What in the world is going on @ R6 ??? Is it from a porn film?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 22, 2019 4:18 AM |
No. That's Canadian alt-right. The leader of Proud Boys.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 22, 2019 4:20 AM |
Well I would say he has lost popularity, based on the votes. But yeah, some of them acted like it was all over for him before the election even began.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 22, 2019 4:25 AM |
He was never going to reach the 2015 numbers, I mean he was going to win back then but there was a big Liberal wave of enthusiasm sweeping the country at the time. In fact, NDP were tied in polls with Liberals right before that election. This is a more realistic reflection of where the country is right now. We Canadians tend to protest vote against our best interests, so the fact that he got re-elected even after that (in my opinion, nothingburger of) scandal and an extreme negative campaign which the Cons launched against him, is very good.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 22, 2019 4:31 AM |
Wow where are those trolls now? How embarrassing, even for bots.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 22, 2019 4:44 AM |
Justin Trudeau for the win! And I voted for him today. The King is back, thank God!!!
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 22, 2019 4:52 AM |
He remains the Prime Minister dear. The right worked so hard to take him out and and failed. Period.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 22, 2019 4:54 AM |
That was for r4 of course.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 22, 2019 4:55 AM |
People simply couldn't cozy up to butterface dipshit Andrew Scheer. Just before the election he said that Justin Trudeau would have to step down as the Liberal leader if he lost the election.
So look who inevitably has to step down as leader of the Conservatives now...……..karma...…..
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 22, 2019 4:56 AM |
Yes and Trump is still President, darling. The office isn't the man.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 22, 2019 4:57 AM |
And if the left doesn't defeat Trump in 2020 that means we failed r15, just like the right failed tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 22, 2019 4:59 AM |
Gah, r16*
I need to go to sleep.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 22, 2019 4:59 AM |
In Canada we used all paper ballots this time so that there could be no interference by internal or foreign enemies. I voted on my paper ballot and then placed it in the ballot box myself. It takes longer to count all of them but it's a much more honest assessment.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 22, 2019 5:00 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 22, 2019 5:01 AM |
Scheer is toast as leader, but will no doubt stay on as MP, because his lack of accreditation as an insurance broker has been exposed and he has no career to fall back on. Also, his publicly funded pension as an MP is so generous that he can't possibly resist continuing to pig out at the trough of taxpayers' money that will support him and his large family for decades to come.

Scheer was always going to lose. What a thoroughly unlikeable person he is. I can't believe that's the best Conservatives could do. And against Justin? He had no chance. Who wants petulant, rude, divisive, nasty Scheer when you could have this?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 22, 2019 5:13 AM |
If they had a more moderate Conservative leader, there is no doubt in my mind that Trudeau would have lost tonight
The right in Canada have spent four solid years to demonize Trudeau, and it almost worked. But the grassroots chose a dud to lead the Conservatives

by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 22, 2019 5:22 AM |
The once thriving NDP Party got less seats in Parliament than the Bloc Quebec Party which is isolated in one province. Bad news for the NDP - their PC move for a leader backfired and he hasn't been doing well at all. Replacement...……??!!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 22, 2019 5:25 AM |
Liberals have nothing to be proud of. Their winning minority seat count is a result of open borders and no photo ID requirement to vote. Who knows how many illegals tipped the scales in how many ridings. Conservatives won the popular vote. People are sick of Zoolander and want him and his Star Wars sock collection out of the PMO.

Dear alt-right/Russian troll, if you're going to pretend to be Canadian, at least learn how the voting system works: as pointed out above, YOU NEED TO PRESENT A PHOTO ID (or the passport with an extra proof of residence/identity) to vote. No free vodka or krokodil for you tonight!!

The irony is the liberals losing seats means Canada's government becomes even more progressive because Trudeau will have to appease the even more leftwing NDP.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 22, 2019 5:53 AM |
American here, asking questions to our Canadian friends: 1. How long do minority governments in Canada typically last? 2. Will Trudeau have to make alliances with other parties to ... pass legislation, but not to form the government? Does he have to bring leaders of the other parties into his cabinet? 3. Will Scheer be ousted as Conservative Party leader if he doesn't resign?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 22, 2019 5:57 AM |
Canada has never been so divided. Liberals have been completely eliminated from Interior BC to Manitoba. The hatred here for Toronto is palpable.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 22, 2019 6:01 AM |
For R51: The budget votes are, for all intents and purposes, confidence votes. If he failed to secure a majority to pass a budget, his government would, in all likelihood, fall and new elections would be called. I'm not an expert, but there could be some other major votes in the Parliament which could be seen as confidence votes. So, yes, he will need to make alliances.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 22, 2019 6:03 AM |
Seems like Canada has a first past the post system in individual seats like Britain. In essence you can get elected with just a third of the vote.
Here in Oz we have a preferential system where a candidate has to get 50% + 1. Therefore you preferences come into play in your ballot paper. With that, we tend to have a fixed two party system rather than a fragmented parliament of many minor parties.

R67, Canada is like the British Parliamentary system -- the party with the most number of seats (eg. electoral districts) wins the election.
It's similar to the Electoral College. Trudeau's Liberals did well in the big provinces like Ontario, Quebec & British Columbia, and that gave them the wins.
Conservatives ran up large numbers in Alberta & Saskatchewan and rural Ontario.

Not really. The whole country... goes both ways from time to time... Liberals have had national majorities, Conservatives (well, Torys) have held national majorities... once the Conservatives were reduced to two seats. I don't think you can say politics has hardened like cement on an urban/rural divide.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | October 22, 2019 1:06 PM |
R76, Sophie was probably enjoying that ass last night. Lucky bitch.
R78, Richard Nixon predicted that Justin would become Prime Minister some day.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | October 22, 2019 1:11 PM |
My understanding is that the Conservative majority last night came from higher turnout in districts with more Conservative voters (whereas in the US Democratic majorities, despite Republican domination, is also due to gerrymandering of low-population Republican districts, as well as the phenomenon of the electoral college and the 2-senators-per-state phenomenon). Can Canadians correct me if I'm wrong?
by Anonymous | reply 82 | October 22, 2019 1:21 PM |

Further to that observation: The Liberals and the NDP didn't get 0 votes in places across the country that went Conservative in the end. There are lots of decent people everywhere. On the other hand, there were lots of Conservative votes in the urban centres too. Anyone counting on an electoral march to the hard left is deluding themselves. The march is always in both directions toward the centre.
Demonizing people is what is a big part of the problem in the Western democracies at present. And I know it feels good and it's easy but that's the leadership... sticking to the high road is called leadership. We should have a natural affinity for it, even if it is the hard work.

R102 If every the US states were using paper ballots Russians could not have so easily attacked the American elections. Putin tried in France but it did not work. The difference is big and important. All Cuban men have tasty size meat. They exude sex.
And Justin Blackface Trudeau had dickmatised 90% of Datalounge and 40% of Canada.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | October 26, 2019 7:34 PM |
Enough with the Fidel stuff. That right-wing conspiracy theory has been debunked by the fact checkers many times.
In the 9 months before Justin was born, his mother Margaret was the most photographed & followed woman in Canada because she had married the Prime Minister. The press was following her all the time and there is no evidence that she secretly snuck down to Cuba to have an affair with Castro. They didn't even meet until some time after Justin was born.

Is that surprising? The fact is that the Cons needed to nearly double the number of seats from the 2015 election to win, and Scheer was not the guy to make it happen. It still beggars belief as to why he was chosen as the Conservative leader in the first place. He could get more votes in Alberta and Saskatchewan but those were sure things anyway. Trudeau's being urged to recall Parliament early in order to end the strike by CN Rail. Andrew Scheer and some provincial leaders are wanting the Liberals to force back to work legislation while Trudeau's ministers say they believe in the collective bargaining process. This could get messy for the Liberals who have claimed in the past that they wouldn't not interfere in the labour negotiations of private companies and unions. If Trudeau doesn't order them back to work, he's in danger of further angering Alberta.

The Liberals got the votes of a lot of union members and have nothing left to loose electorally out there, but they do have votes to lose in high-union ridings. Alberta doesn't get to dictate to the rest of the country how a labour dispute will end.

Con = Charleswood - St. James

R250, yeah, Charleswood is a swing seat. It went Liberal in the Trudeau wave in 2015, but went back to the Cons in 2019.

Michelle Rempel out there blasting bilingualism, practically calling people who speak two languages elites.
