I dislike her flat speaking voice.

That boy is too cute! Of course it's the accent. If he was from Milwaukee I doubt I would him quite so charming.

They need more people in their videos to make them more dynamic. Two people eating two kinds of pizza over five minutes is not riveting.

The ingredients used in Italian pizza is usually fresher but is it really all that better? I grew up with NYC pizza then moved to Italy. NY wins! (and Chicago, of course, loses).

NY Pizza in LA ahhh no.

Does she have vocal fry? Has that moved to Italy? He's adorable and proof of the saying that you can't tell if someone is gay or just European.

The most exquisite pizza I ever had was in a tiny Italian-run pizza joint in Amsterdam. Do any Dutch or well-traveled DL-ers know of which I speak?

The worst pizza (and wine) I’ve ever had was in an Italian pizza restaurant in Paris.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 11, 2019 12:15 PM |
R12 Parisian "Italian" pizza is the worst. A watery ooze of cheese atop burnt bread. And they don't even slice it.

If they want to sample better versions of Italian food in the USA, they should go to Eataly or some other better restaurant.

I agree that the conception of the video is deeply flawed. They should have plowed through at least 6 kinds of "American pizza" in that time. Perhaps they live on Italian "slow time" however, so that's the point.

Italians don’t wash their hands. Be careful eating in that country.

R4 They were humble and very kind. They're both adorable. Very surprised they enjoyed the Alfredo the most! (especially considering it is Olive Garden).
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 14, 2019 3:20 AM |
Olive Garden sucks, even to Americans.

Conversation between Italian and Italian who runs a pizza shop in New Jersey:
"Your pizza is starting to taste better."
"No, it's the same. You've just lived here so long that you're now used to shitty pizza."

The really important questions are:
Do they call it sauce or gravy?
Do they rinse the pasta or not?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 20, 2019 11:36 PM |
I guess this was a paid ad from Olive Garden. Their food is disgusting and I'm not even Italian.

I spent a summer in Italy as a student and ate pizza all over Florence. Hit a few spots in Rome as well. Honestly, American pizza and Italian pizza are two different beasts. I'd say that, yes, I prefer the beast in Italy, but not at the expense of the American one. The texture, size, ingredients... it's just so different that they're not even worth comparing, really.
I will say that, strangely, Pieology's not all that far off from what Italy's doing. I mean, it's still Americanized in its own way, but it's somewhat in the same ballpark when it comes to texture... eh, even then it's somewhat different.
I don't know, guys...
You know what we can't do at all? Gelato. I don't know how they're making it over in Italy, but I haven't had anything stateside that touches it. There was a buffet in Vegas that came bizarrely close to scratching the itch, but there's nothing like the real thing.

Lol. You must be a politician, R32. I can't tell if you like the Italian or American one better from that statement.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 13, 2019 2:42 AM |
r32, when I was a kid, you could get an amazing gelato in South Side of Chicago, where Little Italy was. The closest thing I found was in Atlanta, in the Virginia Highlands, but the owner sold the shop back in 2018, so it probably won't be the same.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 13, 2019 5:52 PM |
Eating pizza in LA is just a mistake. Chicago pizza isn't pizza, it's a casserole. Italians from Italy don't know shit about pizza. Italy is one of the few countries in Europe that only has one kind of restaurant - Italian. You can't get ANYTHING else there. They're very parochial/
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 13, 2019 6:01 PM |
I found pizza in Italy to basically be bread with a few things in top, not very hot. I prefer a hot NY slice covered with cheese.
One of the best things about Amsterdam is NY Pizza. Not necessarily for the quality - though it does come close to true NY pizza - but the fact that it’s run like a NYC pizza shop. Quick, easy, open late, efficient. I HATE having to sit down and rely on a waiter to eat in the middle of the day or late at night after a few beers on Reguliersdwarstraat. I have never found something similar in Paris or most other European cities.

#MeToo - my glass of white wine literally tasted like dirt.
(Why I’d ordered white wine to go with pizza I do not know.)
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 14, 2020 5:51 AM |
R42 My wine tasted like red grapes boiled down into sugary syrup, and the pizza was just weird. I couldn’t even tell you what was wrong with it. It was just very wrong—the texture, the flavors, the weight.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 14, 2020 7:56 AM |
Why kind of pizza are they eating? Fast food shit? I get mine at a little local place run by an guy from Italy that is excellent and authentic. You can get Italian here but not at Olive Garden though I like their salad.
