He was on an episode of My Little Margie ---Miss Whosis -- he played a model named Hercules.....
A couple of decades ago he was on some cable show that featured men with their wives and secretaries. He was on with his live-in fiancee (woman) and he secretary. He is deaf as a post and couldn't hear a word anyone said.
He did a few nude photo shoots. He also did a few Italian muscleman movies.

Ed Fury and Richard Harrison stump Bert Convy's guest star panel on 3rd Degree.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 6, 2020 5:57 PM |
Thanks for that clip, r23. Richard Harrison is a friend of mine, but I haven't seen him in years. Impossibly handsome, nutty as a fruitcake in a good way.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 6, 2020 6:19 PM |
A friend of my late partner had an affair with him many years ago. Fury gave him a book specially put together of all the compromising photos taken of everyone, literally everyone, in Hollywood. He kept hold of it but years later it was stolen by some random one night stand. I always hoped photos from it would emerge.
Still waiting.

Info on Richard Harrison. I seen him nekkid when he was about 60. OMFG.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 7, 2020 12:18 AM |
He actually made two movies for AMG and Apollo - one was called "Day of Fury" and the other was called "Because of Him". Both very homoerotic but not overtly pornographic. I give it up to these old AMG and muscle beach guys because this the era before steroids were available, so those muscles were all natural.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 7, 2020 1:17 AM |
Thanks for those TV clips. I had never heard Ed's voice before, and it sounds fine. Anyone know why they dubbed his one or two lines in SOUTH PACIFIC? Probably just something to do with Josh Logan's insanity.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 7, 2020 1:42 AM |
Lines dubbed by other actors are usually done to try to fix a bad performance/flat line reading.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 7, 2020 1:44 AM |
r35 I too would love to hear the answer or informed speculation on that question!š„š

I've been aware of Ed Fury for years but only recently heard the name Richard Harrison and began to learn anything about him. How hilarious that the old closet queen Josh Logan got them BOTH into the movie of SOUTH PACIFIC. He sure knew how to pick 'em!

I don't follow your logic. It wasn't uncommon for muscle men to pose for beefcake photographs.

[quote]I don't follow your logic. It wasn't uncommon for muscle men to pose for beefcake photographs.
Sorry -- what??? My point was I think it's hilarious how Joshua Logan, who was known to have an eye for exceptionally hunky young men and who was famous for getting them to take their shirts off in his shows and movies, made a point of casting both Ed Fury and Richard Harrison in his film version of the musical SOUTH PACIFIC, which was not the kind of movie you'd normally expect to find them in :-)
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 7, 2020 5:43 PM |
That's what I don't follow. Movie musicals that featured buff men were mostly likely to feature such men as Ed Fury and the other guy. Where else would they draw from? The average dancer was not built like that.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 7, 2020 5:50 PM |
Sean Connery was into bodybuilding in his youth and one of his first roles was among the "Nothing like a Dame" crew in the London production of "South Pacific."
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 7, 2020 5:52 PM |
Gorgeous Richard Harrison played the co-pilot in the opening scene of South Pacific. I think he had a few lines, but we never saw him again after that brief scene.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 7, 2020 6:02 PM |
Ed Fury played one of the sex-starved Seabees.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 7, 2020 6:06 PM |
R26 - Im trying to check somehow. It was a long time ago I was told about it so I could be wrong but I was a bodybuilder at the time so thatās why it stuck with me. Trying to find out if there was a British equivalent I could have mixed him up with but, well, there werenāt any.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 7, 2020 6:07 PM |
Ed Fury threesome with Mickey Rooney and Eddie Bracken.

[quote]That's what I don't follow. Movie musicals that featured buff men were mostly likely to feature such men as Ed Fury and the other guy. Where else would they draw from? The average dancer was not built like that.
Because, actually, SOUTH PACIFIC does NOT really call for men who were built like Richard Harrison and Ed Fury. They're supposed to be basically, average fit guys who've been drafted (or enlisted) in the army during WWII -- not the kinid of muscle men you'd find in Physique Pictorial, who were far less common in those days anyway. But Logan cast those types because that's what he liked.
Sorry if the logic of my post was so hard for you to follow....
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 7, 2020 6:52 PM |
Bless your heart that you're talking about a musical like tits and ass isn't always a consideration.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 7, 2020 6:55 PM |
Holy crap! In that Skip E. Lowe interview that someone posted above, Ed Fury says he first worked with Josh Logan when he played the young male lead role of Marius in the musical FANNY on Broadway. That part was originated by William Tabbert, who was Lt. Cable in SOUTH PACIFIC on Broadway. Only one replacement in the role is listed on ibdb.com, someone named Jack Washburn, who died in 1992. Ed Fury is not listed as an understudy or replacement for Marius under that name Ed Fury or under his real name, Rupert Edmund Holovchik, but that could just be an oversight. I can't imagine he would have lied about it, because why would he?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 7, 2020 7:11 PM |
Bernadette Peters' mother had he lie about the role she played in GYPSY as a child. Bernadette played a Hollywood Blonde. Her mother made her say she played one of the named characters, I can't recall which.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 7, 2020 7:26 PM |
r Probably Dainty June.
Bernadette could still play the role today.

Sean Connery was in the London production of South Pacific. I think Logan's logic is hard to dispute. He took one look at the chorus boys singing "There is nothing like a dame" and immediately placed Connery front and center.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | January 7, 2020 9:43 PM |
Love that both Rooney and Bracken (r52) wound up in "The Golden Girls" later on in their careers. Bracken was especially funny as one of Rose's old boyfriends going toe to toe with Miles. Rooney was just his old hammy bad acting self as a bank robber beau for Sophia.
Fury always looked like he was having a great time in the pics taken of him with clothes or without. I bet he has a ton of stories about the casting couch. He looks like a perfect match for Rock Hudson who liked them big and blond, but may have passed Ed by once he found out that Fury wasn't gay porn star hung.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 7, 2020 9:57 PM |
Why would he, r56? For the same reason Vera insisted she was NEVER in the chorus!
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 7, 2020 10:09 PM |
I looked under both names on IBDB, r56 and there were no credits. Wiki only has this: "Fury began his acting career as a stage actor."
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 7, 2020 10:21 PM |
I believe that was either a bus & truck or summer stock production with Betty Hutton, r57. If I remember correctly, her resume stated she played Dainty June but, indeed, she was a Hollywood Blonde. Although she may have been U/S to her....can't remember.

ed fury was the king of the "posing strap" pictorials and homoerotic magazines back in that era... a male bettie page (minus the s & m stuff).....
ONLY STEVE REEVES outshone him in that era, in terms of looks, body and of course career...
fury played the boy toy that replaced jeff chandler's character as THEE boy toy of the beach in crawford's "female on the beach" movie in 1955...
made chandler look like nothing in comparison....

I used to pal around with Richard Harrison, and his incredibly patient and lovely wife Francesca. Everyone thought Richard was gay because he always talked about penises. The joke was "how long will it take Richard to bring up penises in a conversation." But after knowing him for many years, I think that he was just nutty enough to be straight. I can't explain it but he is a nut. Richard desperately wanted to be an intellectual, and wrote a manuscript for a book that was basically Gore Vidal's "City and the Pillar." He and Vidal were friends in Italy, and I think Richard wanted to be more than his pretty boy image. And so in his weird naive way glommed onto Vidal's first success. He was fascinated with gay men, but again, didn't seem to be closeted but just curious about what made gay men tick. He is very smart in an unschooled way, and I don't think you can be stupid living the life he did in Italy, and ending up in Palm Springs and Malibu.

I have watched that number many times and never noticed him in it. I just watched it again and didn't see him all through it, so I thought you were mistaken, but then I got to the very end of the number and I'm pretty sure that's him at the far right of the frame, when they all gather around Jane Russell. And yes, he is credited on imdb as appearing in the movie as an "Olympic team member."
