White House accidentally sends anti-impeachment talking points to Democrats

The White House accidentally sent its anti-impeachment talking points intended for allies in Congress to House Democrats.

On Wednesday morning, the White House emailed its media strategy for defending President Trump against the charge that he tried to bribe or coerce Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate the son of former Vice President Joe Biden in a phone call on July 25. Along with House Republicans who will likely be asked about the impeachment inquiry every time they speak to the media, the president’s team also sent them to some of the Democrats investigating him, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. According to copies of the emails obtained by Yahoo News, about 40 minutes after sending the talking points out, the White House attempted to recall them.

The talking points urge allies to reiterate that Trump made no promises to Zelensky and that he didn’t bring up his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, until his Ukrainian counterpart brought him up.

The White House memo summarizing the conversation, released to the public a few hours before, shows that Trump sought Zelensky’s cooperation as a “favor,” but does not contain a specific offer of a quid pro quo. At the time, much-needed American military aid for Ukraine had been held up for unexplained reasons, reportedly at the request of the White House.

The completeness of the memo cannot be independently verified. The White House referred to it as a transcript, but the document itself states it is “not a verbatim transcript of a discussion” but rather “the notes and recollections of Situation Room Duty Officers and [National Security Council] policy staff assigned to listen and memorialize the conversation in written form as the conversation takes place.” Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., told MSNBC that the White House had called Republicans in Congress to look over the memo and go over talking points before its release.

Congress has called for the White House to release the details of a complaint by an unnamed whistleblower in the intelligence community, related to Trump’s dealings with Ukraine, that is the basis of the impeachment investigation announced by Pelosi Tuesday.

You have to wonder if someone within the White House is doing this, to undermine Dump.

If so, then good job!

by Anonymousreply 5September 25, 2019 7:14 PM

Trump probably shat himself when he found out they had done this. LOL

by Anonymousreply 6September 25, 2019 7:14 PM

What a supreme bunch of fuckups. If only all these mistakes would make a difference. The GOP will sit on its hands until November 2020.

"Recall them" how?

Clearly, his staffers have never used the internet before.

Once you send an e-mail, there are no take-backs.

by Anonymousreply 8September 25, 2019 7:18 PM

Use to be you could with AOL R8.

He probably would have shat himself anyway, r6.

So take this and assume the complete opposite.

by Anonymousreply 14September 25, 2019 7:37 PM

Apparently the ijjits sent out a second email to the dems asking them to "disregard the previous email". Yeah right! I can just hear all the uproarious laughter coming from the offices of Democrats in Congress.

Someone should have emailed back "Yes, we'll gladly disregard it after we've printed it out AND made multiple screen shots of it".

by Anonymousreply 15September 25, 2019 7:45 PM

Poor Tori Symonds.

Yea, funny how that never works out.

by Anonymousreply 20September 25, 2019 7:55 PM

Has recall email ever worked?

by Anonymousreply 21September 25, 2019 7:56 PM

[quote]"And then the idiots sent emails out begging to recall the email they had sent out."

Because the right is so accustomed to dealing with idiots, they thought that would work.

by Anonymousreply 22September 25, 2019 7:58 PM

Oops.

by Anonymousreply 23September 25, 2019 8:00 PM

Exactly, R14.

by Anonymousreply 24September 25, 2019 9:24 PM

Donnie Jr or Eric ?

Melania or Baron ?

by Anonymousreply 25September 25, 2019 9:33 PM

I think if you’re using Exchange or Outlook and are on the same email system, I.e., if the person clicking Send was on the House email server and was sending to those people within the domain, you can recall emails. But it doesn’t work if someone opens it before you can recall it. And it doesn’t work if you send it outside the domain. Nonetheless, as someone who once sent a mass email to an entire with a huge nasty typo in the Subject, I laughed and laughed and laughed!

by Anonymousreply 26September 25, 2019 9:54 PM

^ sent a mass email to an entire company...

by Anonymousreply 27September 25, 2019 9:55 PM

These are the same idiots who are running our government.

by Anonymousreply 28September 26, 2019 1:20 AM

With Outlook, you can't recall an email message, but you can "undo" it by setting an option to delay it for 5 or 10 seconds, thus giving you time to cancel the send action (you know, in case you happen to notice in that last moment "...some huge, nasty typo..." 😉)

by Anonymousreply 29September 26, 2019 1:54 AM

Or did they do it "accidentally"? Inquiring minds want to know.

by Anonymousreply 30September 26, 2019 1:56 AM

FUCKING GET RID OF THE ELECTORAL SYSTEM. ONE PERSON, ONE VOTE!

And fuck you red states with populations smaller than my neighborhood who get MY MONEY because you can't even support your own fucking states, ya moochers! Voting so that we end up in wars and allowing the environment to go to shit and none of you pays for anything, yet your fucking dole-collecting states get to control the purse strings??? Fucking McConnell from that shit state controlling the rest of us? Sickening.

by Anonymousreply 31September 26, 2019 1:59 AM

There's a way to recall sent mail with Outlook, but only if the email hasn't been opened. This is a terrible fuckup but the email would have leaked to the press/Democrats within minutes anyway.

by Anonymousreply 32September 26, 2019 2:03 AM

What's even more sad, is that these GOP assholes STILL used the talking points in their propaganda today.

Kevin McCarthy, Liz Cheney, and Miss Lindsey were all parroting what DUMP told them to say.

by Anonymousreply 33September 26, 2019 2:29 AM

Liz Cheney is going to be a big problem in the future. I think she is basically a puppet for her father.
