I'm in NY for work and have to meet a colleague for breakfast tomorrow. Need to set the meeting up, but we both want to have some great bagels -- the usuals, cream cheese, lox etc. but it's mostly about the quality of the bagels. I'm staying in Brooklyn, my colleague is staying in the LES, but we can meet anywhere, so open to any suggestions. Help me out here before I return to the suburban hell of Einstein's.
New Yorkers - is Russ & Daughters really worth the wait?

Do we need a new “New Yorkers” thread every couple hours?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 23, 2019 11:57 AM |
R1, no so please entertain us with your observations of about life in the exciting suburbs of Omaha
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 23, 2019 12:13 PM |
OP dont forget the pickles.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 23, 2019 12:34 PM |
No, it is NOT!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 23, 2019 12:43 PM |
Yes. For me, absolutely yes. Try the smoked sable.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 23, 2019 12:44 PM |
If you're going to go to a place like that, you should also consider Clinton St. Baking.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 23, 2019 1:26 PM |
R1, please realize that DL is New York-centric and they don't have to care about you, and don't. That's the beauty of living in a superior city with superior people.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 23, 2019 1:29 PM |
New Yorkers, both natives and transplants like R7, are so accustomed to bad restaurants (crappy food, outrageous prices and surly service) masquerading as 5 star restaurants, they wouldn't know a good restaurant if it bit them in the ass. A so-so restaurant in Omaha would qualify as gold star to delusional NYers.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 23, 2019 1:33 PM |
Whitefish on salt bagels!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 23, 2019 1:48 PM |
R8, so true. It’s funny how the Omaha branches of the Olive Garden never get the recognition they do rightly deserve. New Yorkers would just flip for those amazing breadsticks
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 23, 2019 9:19 PM |
New Yorkers love the breadsticks at their own booming Olive Garden, although not one will admit ever going in there.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 23, 2019 10:57 PM |
Russ is worth the wait; the daughters, not so much.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 23, 2019 11:29 PM |
Mashup time! Whitefish on Olive Garden breadsticks!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 23, 2019 11:31 PM |
OP if you are staying in Brooklyn and can go anywhere you can have the same breakfast at Juniors in Brooklyn.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 23, 2019 11:42 PM |
I’ve never met a client or colleague for breakfast.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 23, 2019 11:47 PM |
bagels are so 20th century. The best bagel in world is easily destroyed by a careless restaurant
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 23, 2019 11:57 PM |
Depending where in Brooklyn you're staying, you can try Shelsky's.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 24, 2019 12:06 AM |
No restaurant or deli is worth standing in line for OP. Just go to Murray's in Chelsea.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 24, 2019 12:46 AM |
Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop in Greenpoint. Fresh bagels and the best donuts and pastries. It's not the fanciest place but the food makes up for it.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 24, 2019 12:59 AM |
R15 probably because no one wants to be spritzed with Aqua Di Gio at 8am.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 24, 2019 1:41 AM |
Just get some leftover bagels and a can of tuna at the Dollar Tree.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 24, 2019 4:38 AM |
OP, just get a hot dog from a street vendor and call it a day.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 24, 2019 4:56 AM |
R5, that's a very hirsute sandwich, you'd be picking hair from your teeth for a week, but then....
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 24, 2019 5:02 AM |
The only sandwich waiting in line for is to be between these buns.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 24, 2019 12:25 PM |
Ugh...The DL is SOOOOO Toxic. Can't even give a straight answer to a basic question without cunting out at OP and each other.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 24, 2019 12:59 PM |
You want an answer, R25? The answer is " No." It's not worth it. Happy?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 24, 2019 1:02 PM |
As a NYer, I refuse to wait. As such I’ve never been to Russ and Daughters.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 24, 2019 1:23 PM |
Bagels on the Square in the Village are the best.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 24, 2019 1:59 PM |
You don't want to wait? Get some of these.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 24, 2019 2:07 PM |
NOPE.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 24, 2019 2:12 PM |
Bagel World, 4th street and 5th avenue in Brooklyn. Bagel Hole on 7th between 12th and 13th streets (I think) also in Brooklyn.

"Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop in Greenpoint. Fresh bagels and the best donuts and pastries. It's not the fanciest place but the food makes up for it."
OMG - I used to LOVE to get an egg and cheese sandwich on one of their whole wheat bagels, toasted of course. That thing is the stuff dreams are made of with all that oozy cheese.
It's the only thing I miss about living in Greenpoint.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 24, 2019 2:16 PM |
Forget bagels, they're high in carbs and have no nutritional value.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 24, 2019 2:17 PM |
But they’re DELICIOUS R33!!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 24, 2019 2:19 PM |
Black Stone Coffee Roasters, Hudson just north of Christopher. Sammy the owner is in at 3:00 AM making bagels, they open at 5:00.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 24, 2019 2:19 PM |
I like poppy with olive cream cheese. And NOT toasted! Ordering a toasted bagel in the 70s would have gotten you mugged. Mugged! At knifepoint I tell ya!
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 24, 2019 2:34 PM |
R1-apparently the same way we need New Yorkers to call the rest of us uncultured hay seeds every other post. Don't you know, if you're not in New York, you're not in the center of the universe?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 24, 2019 2:35 PM |
R24 Have the McJebusina bros moved to the LES?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 24, 2019 3:08 PM |
R37 If you're going to make a comment as R1 did you deserve to get slapped down, don't like the thread stay out of it.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 24, 2019 3:17 PM |
R39-what's the matter? Don't like being reminded that New York isn't at the core of existence? Believe it or not, some people don't give a fuck about New York and they find people like you to be pure cunts.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 24, 2019 3:28 PM |
Been here 31 years and never tried it. There is plenty of excellent lox everywhere. And the best bagels are Ess-A-Bagel or Tal.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 24, 2019 3:31 PM |
In the cuntout between r40 and r39, you, r40, are the one being the complete cunt. May yours fall off at its earliest convenience.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 24, 2019 3:53 PM |
OMG Black Stone Coffee Roasters R35 ! My morning place for egg wraps. Though I don’t think I would go out of my way to recommend, it’s a decent NYC place. But I just can’t handle Sammy in AM - I get he’s a hard worker and enthusiastic but I honestly just want to get my stuff and get out in the morning with minimal interaction. He’s a talker. But hope he does well. The bagel shop they replaced moved up Christopher St and seems like it’s doing 1/2 the business.

Utopia Bagels in Queens are NYC's best. Hands down.
