Justin Timberlake's acting

He's appealing-looking even still (and has a great body), but even better, he has a real flair for comedy (as he has shown on SNL). I am surprised he's not done many movies--he does acting only irregularly. His musical career was fantastic, but he's aging now--it's hard to imagine that he'll ever recapture his old place on the charts. So why doesn't he act more?

Many musical stars want to break into acting, and some are successful (Sinatra, Streisand, Cher), and some are just awful (Harry Connick Jr., Beyoncé). I'm surprised Timberlake doesn't do more since he's quite decent at it.

He's an absolutely horrific actor. It seems like it should be impossible for him to still be as bad as he is, given how many opportunities to prove how very untalented he is at behaving like a human being.

I know many have boycotted Woody Allen, but I really liked Justin Timberlake in Wonder Wheel. He was great in it.

He's good in supporting roles but he doesn't have the onscreen presence to carry a movie, comedy or otherwise. I thought he was fine in THE SOCIAL NETWORK, even though he appeared to be playing a version of himself.

SNL utilized him perfectly, which was somewhat of a surprise at the time. He was genuinely funny, and did what any good SNL guest should do, which is give it their all. But something clicks with certain guests, and that happened with Timberlake, but I'd argue that Andy Samberg and his comedy crew are part of Justin's success there. His highest profile acting gig was Social Network, which he was solid in, but ultimately upstaged by both Garfield and Eisenberg.

I don't know that he was ever transcendent on film, or ever showed much promise in that regard, but he's quite entertaining as himself and sketch comedy.

I don’t like him in anything other than Friends with Benefits. That’s it.

And that’s because I feel Mila Kunis carried him a bit.

by Anonymousreply 6September 9, 2019 7:31 PM

Because he’s nothing without his fangurls.

r6 holy shit I watched that movie I was a teenager, feeling old now, but yeah that was a great movie.

by Anonymousreply 8September 9, 2019 7:41 PM

R8 I loved it. I still watch it sometimes when it comes out. That and No Strings Attached were filmed at the same time and came out a couple of months apart. I always liked FWB more.

I thought he was OK in the film "In Time"

The ones he starred in were all flops

by Anonymousreply 12September 9, 2019 9:32 PM

Because he's a shit actor.

Love his "acting."

He has an exceptional body and a good voice. Those aren’t qualities that are entirely necessary for acting. Trousersnake needs to stick to his lane. x

by Anonymousreply 15September 9, 2019 10:03 PM

"A good voice?" Okay.

by Anonymousreply 16September 9, 2019 10:10 PM

He was v ery good in Wonder Wheel. And he was incredibly hot!

by Anonymousreply 17September 9, 2019 10:37 PM

Here's his best acting scene.

Are there any singing stars today? He could be one.

by Anonymousreply 19September 9, 2019 11:22 PM

His speaking voice is pretty high and he lacks nuance. It's fine for SNL, but it's really broadcasted when he is acting in a movie. He even sucked in Bad Teacher which was not a comedy that was asking for a lot from its actors.

Timberlake was great on SNL. He'd be a very good variety show host - acting in some sketches, kidding around with guests, singing the occasional song. Too bad nobody makes variety shows anymore.

by Anonymousreply 21September 10, 2019 12:28 AM

This still makes me laugh.

He's a decent actor, and a good singer. But there's something douchey about him and his face is just...meh. Ever since he got married, that seemed to be it for his career?

by Anonymousreply 24September 10, 2019 10:05 AM

He’s great. Hell he’s been acting straight for years.

Same goes for Biel. She only started getting attention again because of The Sinner.

by Anonymousreply 26September 10, 2019 10:17 AM

R26 See, I don't even know what The Sinner is and I tend to keep up. She's really pretty and quite nice, but seems very blah.

I guess by this business's standard, they both had their time.

by Anonymousreply 27September 10, 2019 10:24 AM

I think he is a good actor but Fincher probably killed his acting bug.

by Anonymousreply 28September 10, 2019 10:25 AM

His last album flopped. He's in his late 30s now so his music career is likely done. At least as a Top 40 artist.
